@whiska My OB office wants you to call in if you have any watery discharge at all, so you may want to check with your doctor. At every appointment they ask me about it, along with bleeding/spotting, any contractions, and a couple other routine questions. We've got a triage nurse line to call for stuff like this, so we don't have to wait on my OB to have time to talk to us. Do you have something like that available?
@whiska From what I have read amniotic fluid smells sweet. AFM I have had A TON more discharge since hitting third trimester (and even a few weeks before), so hopefully it is normal!

@whiska it is definitely possible to lose pieces of your mucous plug throughout the third tri. Amniotic fluid DEFINITELY has a smell. Coming from someone who leaked it allllll effing day when I was in labour with DS. But... I can't describe it. It's like nothing you've ever smelled before. Not super strong, but there's defi5a distinct odor. I really noticed it when I left me bedroom where my sheets were saturated and came back with fresh ones. I was like... woah... this room smells like ute juice!
Night sweats, yay! I'm not sure if it's because we've been sleeping with the windows closed now or what (but when we were sleeping with the windows open, the house started out hotter). I'm going to have to try just opening the window for like an hour before bed to try to get the bedroom cooler and see if that helps because having the window open all night would be too cold. Or maybe I'm lucky and this is actually a symptom and it stays for the next 14 weeks. Fun!
@whiska for me, discharge is not abnormal while pregnant, and as others have said, you can totally lose pieces of your mucous plug and it will regenerate. If you get a really big glob, get it checked, but otherwise, it's probably ok. If it continues, it never hurts to call and ask!

@kickball7091 Thank you! They told me to be on the lookout for other signs of labor like contractions, water breaking, etc. It's still scary and I really hope I don't miss any signs.
@whiska I would call your nurse Triage line or OB office to be sure. They may want to check you out to be on the safe side. I'd much rather go in for nothing than wait until it's too late.
@whiska When I saw mine, I immediately Googled what does a mucus plug look like. Here's a pic I found that was similar to what mine looked like. I'm adding as a spoiler in case it grosses people out.
It looked just like above, but it was about this amount (again these are pics from the web, not mine LOL)
The consistency can be different though so I would use Google to ask the question above and take a look at the images it brings up.
@clovelyone haha I did google images to see what a mucus plug looked like. For me it was just two tiny pieces (compared to the large globs that come up in an image search), like what I've seen leading up to ovulation, but also like they could have been from the plug. I don't know. I'll call if I experience more of the watery discharge. Ugh, I feel like I'm always calling this office and it turns out to be nothing!
Now with all this googling it seems that amniotic fluid can smell sweet or like nothing, hay, cream cheese (wtf), marzipan, or semen (fun!), and if it's more like vinegar or sour that's discharge? Of course now I'm like, what kind of semen are we talking about here??? Like the trees? Or????
@clovelyone I hope there are no other signs and it's able to regenerate for you!

@MJDsquared sorry to continue to be the bearer of bad news but night sweats do not stop until you are done breastfeeding. I actually forgot what it was like to not sweat at night until DS weaned 15m later.... and I woke up in a dry bed.
@failuretofly Damn it. I knew that PP night sweats are super common, but was hoping maaaaybe they wouldn't stick around the rest of pregnancy. Womp womp! Haha.
Uhhh has anyone else noticed that semen smells like pancake batter? Lol. I know this is weird, but years ago I made pancakes for a guy I had a thing with and a couple of his friends and they had apparently never smelled pancake batter before and were super weirded out. I didn't realize before then either but now I can't separate those two smells. Lol.
@MJDsquared Yeah, I can see that. I've described it mentally before as "doughy". That's hilarious that *they* were weirded out. Like they thought you were making semen pancakes??
ETA There's a baby batter joke in here...

@MJDsquared I can't say I've noticed the pancake batter thing, but last year I was listening to an episode of Anna Faris' podcast and she and Olivia Munn were talking about how balls smell like stale Cheerios and I almost wrecked my car from laughing so hard.
@whiska I went to the doctor a few weeks ago for discharge concerns that sound pretty similar My OB checked everything out and it was all fine and well. She said that discharge changes and varies throughout pregnancy. But, if you're worried, it never hurts to call.
@whiska Moving forward, I will be calling my doc for NY little thing that seems off. They are being paid to help us.
LMAO, you guys are cracking me up with these smells! I've never tried to compare it to anything. Maybe I'll think about it the next time I'm near some .
I think I can now say I've definitely had Braxton Hicks. I wondered if it was happening in the past, but today I had some discomfort in my pelvis and felt my stomach and it was rock hard. And now it's not. Super weird, because no matter how many times I read that for a lot of people it just feels like your abdomen getting hard, I always feel like they're supposed to hurt and be super obvious (thanks, TV shows!).
I'll just keep the TMI's going but I have had mucus discharge almost daily for at least a month. I honestly hadn't thought much about it, but thinking back I don't think I had any with DD's pregnancy! Also I didn't ever have Braxton Hicks contractions with my first pregnancy that I can recall but I'm pretty positive that is what I've been experiencing. Multiple times a day I feel like my skin is being stretched very tightly over my belly like Saran Wrap. It doesn't necessarily hurt but it is uncomfortable.
@ktcakes87 at my 28 week appt yesterday my doctor said to now start counting 10 kicks every 2-3 hours. If I don't feel anything drink something cold and lay on your side for a bit and if still nothing go in. So I would start trying to monitor now. I had an anterior placenta last time and it was much harder to feel even with two in there.
@whiska I was leaking fluid for a few days before my water broke fully at 31 weeks. It was always clear and I felt like I was peeing myself. For me though, it never had a smell to it. I seriously just thought it was pee. As for discharge, I normally have quite a bit, so I am no help there. I would monitor it through out the day and if it keeps up go in and get checked. If it is fluid they will most likely need to give you steroid shots and possibly put you on bedrest, etc. Better safe than sorry in my mind. I wish I would of went in earlier last time!
Is anyone else measuring ahead? I just had my 3rd tri US (f/u on some minor issues found during anatomical that lead to an amnio). And baby is measuring 2 weeks ahead! Could this just be a growth spurt or something more?
My glucose test came back just fine (113 out of the 110-140 scale). But the rad is concerned I have GD because of the babies measurements from the US. Baby belly measurements greater than 95%. At my 30 week check up yesterday, my doctor is completely fine with where I'm measuring. My fundal growth isn't too much nor have I gained excessive weight.
I'll have to wait to hear from my doctor but it just seems odd. Anyone else experiencing this or has anyone else in previous pregnancies?
@jesrude I'm in sort of the same situation. Baby is measuring large for his gestational age, which I know to the day (thank you IVF), but my OB is not concerned. I go to a specialist each time I see the OB, and they aren't concerned either. They said that he's measuring ahead, but he's growing at a steady pace for him, so no worries. Hopefully that eases some of your concern.

@jesrude at my 20 week, LO was measuring 1 week ahead via ultrasound. At my 28 week check up, I was measuring 33 weeks based on fundal height measurement. I have a growth scan on Friday to see how LO is measuring - I did fail my 1 hour test and took my 3 hour yesterday; still pending the results. I will not be shocked if I failed given how he's measuring and how I have been feeling. I have only gained 6 pounds so far.
so I know we are barely in the third tri, 30w2d over here, but I'm really over being pregnant lately. I don't recall felling this way with my first, but with this one, I do. My pelvis hurts all the time. I constantly feel like i could pee my pants walking from bouncing and pressure. And the reflux the past two weeks has been awful. And my appetite is gone again. I want the baby to cook as long as he needs to but dang, I'm ready to be done.
I would like to preface this by saying I was diagnosed with GERD/acid reflux over 10 years ago and therefore thought I had a handle on this pregnancy heartburn situation.
I WAS WRONG.
IT BURNS.
KILL ME.
Doubling my Zantac dose tomorrow. If that doesn't help, I may never sleep again. I ate small meals! I ate bland foods! I chugged water! Why is this happening?
Side note, it is impossible to sleep with upper body propped up while simultaneously lying on one's side. Anyone else awake and miserable tonight?
@elcd458 Yup! I can sleep on my wedge pillow for a day or two at a time, but the hearttburn still sucks. I use liquid Mylanta as well as Zantac and that is somewhat helpful. Good luck!
Almost every night the past 2-3 weeks I'm waking up with intense hip pain from sleeping on my side. Even with a snoogle and extra pillows between my legs I'm in pain. What is everyone else doing?
@jesrude I didn't feel this way, this early with pregnancy #1 too. Ugh

This is why I’m awake sooooo many times at night. It’s like every hour to two hours because my hips hurt. So I keep rotating. No advice but I’m with you.
@elcd458 Are you sleeping propped up on pillows, or with the head of your bed raised? I have really bad reflux normally, and started keeping the head of my bed risen about 4-6 inches (just using pieces of wood) and it helps SO much. It also makes it a lot easier to sleep on your side. Only downside is when you're traveling and the bed isn't raised you feel like you're sleeping upside down lol.
Also, add me to the done with pregnancy group. I agree with @jesrude that my first pregnancy was nothing like this...I was fine up until like 36 weeks, but nope. Not with this one
@Skcobb & @sjis Oh I'm so glad I'm not the only one. I don't know what is with me this time around, but I'm over it. I am grateful to be pregnant and have a mostly easy pregnancy with a few hiccups and I want LO to cook as long as he needs to but, damn, I'm spent.
I am SO thirsty, all of the time. Today at Target I purchased regular water, Propel flavored water, lemonade, pink lemonade, juice for the kid, and soda for hubby.... I'm pretty sure the check out kid thought I was insane.
@elcd458 I am sleeping up on a wedge pillow on my side with the snoogle. Not due to reflux usually, but awful allergies that are a bit better if I'm not laying all the way down.
It's kind of ridiculous, but it does work for me.

Iron question. Just got call from Dr that I passed my 1 hr glucose test (yay!) but that I am borderline anemic. They said I need to increase my iron enriched foods. Any suggestions? BTW I am a vegetarian. Thanks in advance!

Dried apricots, cashews, and spinach all are good things to snack on. Rasin Bran has like 50% of your daily iron needs, so it's a great way to get in a bunch with 1 cup of food. I'm anemic now too, and have taken to starting the day with oatmeal (iron fortified), and keeping cashews and apricots on me at all times. My snack in the afternoon is a big bowl of rasin bran - I've been doing it for about a week and I've already seen my anemia symptoms decrease!
A FM, nesting has settled in. DH has been commenting on how clean the apartment has been the past few days apparently it's hitting early this time...
I've always been borderline anemic so I've always taken a supplement. Raisins are yummy and have iron:). Also, my iron lunch I like to make: spinach salad tossed with whatever quinoa I have on hand. Top with pumpkin seeds and chopped broccoli. I dress it with a figgy balsamic vinegar but I feel like a lot of things work for this. I'm not a vegetarian, but I do not eat red meat. It can be hard sometimes.
