Re: Questions - Week of September 17

  • @triplejplus1 swollen taste buds SUCK! I got them a couple times with P. I'm sorry you're dealing with it, I think it's something you have to just ride out?

  • So I keep getting a very painful spot along the edge of my tongue. Its way back there and it just hurts! When I try to look at it it just looks like a pimple maybe except the same color as the rest of my tongue.. Has anyone else experienced anything like this? The only reason I ask is because when I turned to Dr. Google (besides cancer) it listed a few things that could cause this and hormones was one of them. It lasts several days and this is the second time within a month that its happened.
That happens to me usually when I over do food that is salty/crunchy. I've used orajel on them when it seems like my mouth can't just leave it be, but you'd have to check if that is pregnancy safe. Hope it feels better soon!

  • @ShawnnaO and @becausescience Ugh, I'm sorry you guys have experienced this too! I rode it out a few weeks ago but am ready to call in to see if orajel would be okay. For now I am just avoiding things that irritate it most. All that yummy salsa talk in another thread is unfortunately one of those things and pop really hurts. Actually just swallowing hurts :(
  • @triplejplus1 sounds like a kanker sore. if the doctor says no to meds... try warm water with LOTS of sea salt. it's gross but it helps..... just don't swallow.  gargle for 30 secs and spit. do ut a few times a day
  • Does anyone have a recommendation for an app to track your calories/intake? If there’s one specifically targeted towards pregnant women that would be great! I’ve used My Fitness Pal in the past but as far as I can tell there isn’t an option to say you’re pregnant to adjust calorie goals. (I guess I could just do math but I don’t wanna!) I lost another 2 lbs between my 10 and 14 week appointments, and I want to be sure I’m eating enough. (My midwife also noted that my dizzy spells could be due to not eating enough.) Thank you in advance!
  • @ksmwalters I tracked my calories during my last pregnancy for the same reason! Unfortunately, I can't recommend an app specifically for pregnant women, but basically just keep in mind that the calories the regular apps recommend you consume should be your minimum for the day, while you aim to intake another 300-500 extra calories. Regardless, if you're still losing weight, even using the normal apps like my fitness pal and just trying to at least hit that calorie count will help you a lot.
  • @ShawnnaO Thank you! So far she’s not concerned about me losing weight since I was a bit overweight before getting pregnant, but I’m trying my best to be proactive. My mom also lost weight in her first trimester, so I’m wondering if it’s somehow related. (I’ve heard that you can carry similarly to your mother but I have no idea if that’s an actual scientific fact or an old wive’s tale.) I’ve lost about 10 lbs so far, so nothing crazy but I definitely don’t want to have lost again at my 18 week appt.
  • Ladies, is anyone getting that "I just ate 10 burritos and 10 pizzas" fullness feeling without being full or even while hungry?

My belly feels so distended and uncomfortably heavy throughout the day. It feels like it did late 3rd tri and I don't know how to relieve it without busting out the awful maternity belt.

This pregnancy, I've vowed to just say no to that thing.

Yes! Usually I have no problem taking down a roll or 5 of sushi... today I ate half my roll and felt so uncomfortable! I'm also having the problem of waking up super hungry in the middle of the night, so i struggle to eat enough to keep me happy all night but not too full for bed.

Ive started keeping a banana in my bedroom just in case

I've been feeling like this lately. I think my uterus is "popping" sooner than it did the first time, probably pushing things around sooner. I took Gas-X and jr relieved a ton of bloating.
  • @barrelocarol Yes! It's awful. I eat a bowl of cheerios and feel like I ate a burrito. I can only eat a tiny lunch or dinner, then feel super full and uncomfortable for like two hours, and then I'm hungry again. Will this last the rest of the pregnancy? It's the worst, and I definitely didn't have it last time until the tail end.
  • Have any other STM+ moms experienced their child starting to throw tantrums when they turn one? It's like a switch flipped in my daughter when she turned one. If the dogs are outside and she wants them in, she throws a fit. If I tell her not to pull my hair, she throws a fit. If she can't get into a kitchen cabinet, she throws a fit. If there's not enough drink in her cup, she throws a fit. I'm at my wits end. She's one, so obviously there's not much I can do, but I just need to know I'm not the only one. She got four teeth last week and has two more trying to push through right now, could it be teething related?
  • @ShawnnaO Yep. Two children. Both started the tantrums around 1. It's usually because they don't have all the words to ask what they want. So it's more frustration.
  • @kalawa yeah it definitely seems like frustration, and for the most part I can figure out what she wants. It's just been so much, and of course it starts right when my husband leaves. Like how many times do I need to explain that she can't pull my hair because it hurts me?
  • So the pregnancy acne break outs are getting pretty bad for me. Does anyone have good skin care recommendations? I've been avoiding retinoids and salicylic acid and using products from Lush but it isn't doing the trick. Any advice?
  • @ShawnnaO yep that sounds about right! Hang in there!
  • @newmomtx06 I swear by Simple miscellular water and facial cleansing wipes!

    @heatherdubrow thank you!
  • @ShawnnaO FTM, but I just wanted to say thank you for giving me a glimpse of what's about to go down if/when we do this back to back

@newmomtx06 look into Vassauer products. I got samples of her facial cleaner that she made while pg with her first. They're gentle and did the job with my skin. A little pricey, but a little goes a long way.

  • Thanks @ShawnnaO and @cford08! I'll definitely look into those.
  • @cford08 I always knew I wanted two close together but oh my lord this is crazy. I try not to think about having two under two while my husband is gone next year  :D
  • @triplejplus1 Swollen and infected taste buds are awful! I usually just have to let them heal up on their own. It is so hard not to bump that part of the tongue, though.

@barrelocarol I've had it, too. Sometimes I think it's related to what I've eaten, and other times a bit of hydration balance. This is my third pregnancy, and I had never heard of a BLANQI, but one of my friends was just wearing one (she's 28 weeks), and it looks amazing. She's a dentist and needs a bit more support for her lower back given the position she's in most of the day, so she wears this beneath most of her tops. They're fairly expensive, so she has washed it often!
