@kaylawing You could always try folding a blanket or towel up under your bottom/fitted sheet to where it would prop you up just enough at an angle on one side that you aren't completely flat. Almost like the side version of a wedge pillow? That way gravity will prevent the issues with blood flow etc. but your brain will be tricked into thinking you're lying on your back since your back will be touching something.
@kaylawing I was a back sleeper and it's been sooo hard adjusting, so you're not alone! I didn't get a pregnancy pillow but here's my setup: if I'm laying on my left side, I put my fluffiest, longest pillow against my front and kind of lay on it (mostly my head and hug it with my top arm), just barely enough to keep me balanced more toward that side.* To keep me from rolling all the way back on my back, I take a towel and roll it up then push it behind me tight against my hips/butt. My ob said even if I roll back onto the towel, if I have a little bit of elevation there under one hip it's safer than having rolled and slept for whatever amount of time flat on my back. I also change sides every time I get up in the night to go to the bathroom to try and keep the hip/back strain symmetrical.
*I was using the bottom edge of this to kind of give my bump some support, but since I'm laying on it with a bit of my weight it started squishing the bump as I've gotten bigger. I noticed the other night I pulled the pillow back a little and all of a sudden the baby was like, "party time!" because there was more room lol.

@kaylawing I am historically a back sleeper. For a while I was good about sleeping on my left but with this kiddo's position recently I get lightning crotch when I lay on my left so I have been back to sleeping mostly on my back. I have a maternity pillow and I try to angle myself slightly with it, but back sleeping is the only way I'm getting any sleep right now.

When I was a baby they told my mom I was allergic to the pertussis vaccine, so I've always received boosters of tetanus and diphtheria. So one of my only fears regarding this baby is that he'll get whooping cough because I can't get the third trimester booster. My family understands this, so they've all received their boosters, but my MIL is a slight anti-vaxxer and she won't get the vaccine herself and she won't let her husband get it either. And if I try to talk to H about it, he brings up the statistics of kids who do get whooping cough, which is small, because everyone around them gets vaccinated! But I can't be, and the people around me aren't going to be. I didn't even try to ask people to get a flu shot, because there's zero chance of that happening. I'm going to bring it up with our OB at the next appointment he comes to and see if we can come up with a plan. I just wanted to know if anyone else had this sort of issue and how you dealt with it.
@babybison will your MIL and FIL be spending a lot of time taking care of your baby? My OB told me that only the primary caretakers (e.g. me, DH, a nanny if we got one) should get the TDAP and flu shot. I would hope that people would refrain from visiting my newborn when they're sick- and if any visitors come into my home with sniffles/a cough, they are not going anywhere near the baby!
@babybison I was also allergic to the pertussis vaccine as a baby (had to go to the hospital due to the reaction). BUT when I was 18 one of my doctors accidentally gave me the full TDAP vaccine, including pertussis, then called me on my drive home to alert me to be cautious of any reaction. I ended up not having a reaction and they said the formula for the pertussis vaccine had changed a lot which is probably why I as no longer allergic.
You may want to ask your doctor about this. Probably still not worth getting the 3rd tri booster but possibly after the precious little baby is out and good you could try the vaccine again with doctor monitoring.
@blueskies17 I'm pretty sure my MIL will be spending a lot of time at our house since she and my H are very close, but they also live in an over 55 community, and I just imagine it being a cesspool of illnesses. I don't think she'd come if anyone near her was sick, though, so that's a plus. @ashtynmo I heard they changed the recipe too, but my OB thought being preggo wasn't a good time to test it out. Once the baby hits the 2mo mark and gets his first shots I'll be fine, but I just worry about it all the time. Especially being a winter baby. It's probably an over-reaction, but it's essentially something that should be preventable and I can't control it.

My in laws refused to get it too. Pissed me off but there was nothing I could do. I’m so sorry you’re having to deal with this.
@babybison I am so sorry to hear your MIL and your H are being resistant to vaccines.
AFM - I am putting my foot down. Get vaccinated, or you don't see the baby until they are. Period. My little sister got Pertussis as an adult in college, and that was awful enough. I know the statistics say that it's unlikely, but I'd rather be the b*tchy DIL/niece/friend/whatever than have something happen. I already know it will be an issue with a few of my older unmarried opinionated aunts, but this is my line in the sand.

I'm worried about DH's family getting their immunizations. I've told DH we have to tell our family to get the flu shot/TDAP booster, and he says he agrees but I don't know that he's actually even mentioned it to them. It's gonna be fun when I confront them at our shower next month... lol. (We have a good relationship and I won't be bitchy about it, so maybe 'confront' isn't the right word.) I also need to mention it to my siblings and my two best friends, since I imagine they'll come to see baby in the early days.
I'd be a bitch about it too for those who will be around a lot. I don't care. If you want to spend time with the baby, you get the appropriate shots. You choose not to, you choose not to spend time with the baby.
For one, my official answer is its for the babies health and safety. But the other thing I'm thinking is it's a matter of boundaries and you setting the rules for your child and people learning to respect those boundaries. Because if they don't respect your rules now (and legit rules) how can you expect them to respect other rules down the road (things like no TV during the week or no one cream).
Of course this is only if the shots thing is important to you. Not saying create rules to exert power. Each family has to decide what makes sense for them. But once you set rules I think you should stay strong with them.

vaccinations are an absolute, no question, no negotiation boundary for me, especially since these babes will be born at the height of cold/flu season. A lot of adults don't even know they have pertussis when they get it, they just think they have a really bad cough. Even though it's not recommended here I am going to push to see how I can get my TDaP updated, as well as remind anyone who plans on spending a significant amount of time in my house that updates + flu shot are an absolute must, or you don't come. My baby staying alive is more important than you being a shit head.
FWIW my dad didn't meet DS until he was 4 months old, and had 2 rounds of vaccines in and flu season was over because my dad said "I never get sick so I'm not getting the flu shot"... Too bad for him!
I feel like my nipples are very aggressive. My bras have light padding (basically to prevent nipples poking out) annnd you can see my nipples sticking out sometimes. It's especially bad in my white t-shirt (not that the shirt is see-through, it's the actual protrusion). This has never been in issue for me. However, I think maybe going up in bra size (again) might help, and I know I need to soon at least in band size because my bras are getting super uncomfortable.
@MJDsquared sorry to tell you, but if you end up BFing this LO... they will only get worse haha. I never had 'ON' nipples before DS, since BFing him for 15m, that is just their shape.
@failuretofly Noooo I don't want to look like Rachel from Friends forever! Hahaha. Buuut I more strongly want to BF so I'll deal with the *fun* side effects!
@MJDsquared bahahahaha omg i probably watched every episode of friends 10x before I caught onto that, but now it's all I see! DH and I are always like "wow... they must keep the set REALLY cold there all the time!" Haha
@Marley629 I'm on the brink of trimester 3 but I'm having the same problem.. I find a bowl of cereal and moving to the guest room helpful in falling back to sleep.. it's usually after I've been awake for an hour.. the struggle is real.
At what point should I be concerned about not feeling much movement in a day? I don't feel a ton normally, I have anterior placenta. The most I have ever felt her was two nights ago. I had an ultrasound yesterday and things were good. I didn't feel her much yesterday and I haven't felt her much at all today. Should I be worried?

@ktcakes87 How far along are you? They say kick counts should start around 28 weeks, but an anterior placenta may take longer, or not feel as strong. I'm no doctor, but that's my thoughts on it.
@ktcakes87 I don't think all doctors tell you to do that. Mine hasn't mentioned it either. Others on here have mentioned moreso learning their patterns of movement. So if you feel like the pattern is off, you should call your doctor. I guess it wouldn't hurt to ask. I'd rather be the crazy lady who keeps calling about things that end up being unnecessary (FXed that's your case).
@ktcakes87 my doctor doesn't have us do kick counts until 32 weeks. I had a slightly anterior placenta last time, and it really took until about 30 to feel good, consistent movement. However, trust your momma instincts and call your doctor if your worried.
My doctor always suggested taking an hour out of the day, drinking a glass of orange juice and laying on my side. During that hour, I would almost always be able to get my full count in! I also found that if I was even a little dehydrated, DD wasn't nearly as active.
@clovelyone@skcobb thanks ladies. I had anxiety dreams all night long after trying to count kicks for over 2 hours and got maybe one. This morning I got over 10 in about 15 minutes!

Regarding baby movement: I had a ton on Thursday, maybe even a Braxton hicks contraction (I'm only 26 weeks so it's not likely or unlikely). Friday I felt nothing, just tiny flutters.. same with Saturday.. until Saturday evening when the baby came to life. I'd do as others suggested, keep drinking fluids and monitoring.
@ktcakes87 My little guy has dance-all-day days (oof) and quiet days. There's usually at least a short cluster of movement, usually after a meal, snack or just as I lie down for bed. By this time yesterday, he'd been kicking up a storm but today I don't think he's even woken up. It's definitely variable.
PS: The only reason I'm doing kick counts is because it's part of my GD program. Otherwise our OB practice just asks you to look for "periods of movement".
I can feel my abs separating and it huuuurrrttssss also, after a long walk yesterday my pubic symphysis was achy... never happened with DS. I hope it doesn't get worse!!!
@ktcakes87 Sorry the AP makes it so hard!!! I can only imagine. Mine is anterior fundal and up to the left, so I very rarely feel movements up there. I freak out about movement about every other day so you're not alone!
My ob's directions (I just got these at the 28-week visit) were: Have you noticed if baby has a routine? (Yes) Then just watch for the routine to continue. If anything's off, drink something cold and sweet and lay on your side without looking at your phone or watching tv or anything. If you don't feel 10 movements in 2 hours, go straight to L&D. They don't have to be kicks or jabs; just any movement.
I would ask your doc at your next visit what their protocol is. I was really surprised that mine was like, Don't even call the office; just go to L&D Also seconding @Skcobb that baby is more quiet if I'm not getting at least 80 oz of fluid in a day.

@ktcakes87 I'm with you on the AP. I feel very little movement. I'm lucky if I feel 10 kicks/moves in 24 hours. Every time I get a check up all is well. I think with an AP you have to go more with what is that babies normal, but like others have said if you are at all concerned its better to be safe than sorry and its worth getting checked out.

I have this problem (pubic symphysis, not abs), and never had it with DD. A day of wearing a belly support band and it usually goes away, but it does make me nervous b/c I'm only 28 weeks this week and it's been going on for a while. I want to be able to walk as I get closer to my due date!

@ktcakes87 I also have AP and did last time, too. My doc told me to just look for patterns in movement. I also have better luck feeling movements on the sides of my belly rather than the front (if that makes sense). If I’m worried or have noticed less than usual, I drink cold water and lay down for about an hour. I almost always get little kicks or flutters that way. It’s hard not to worry though, so if you are, I’d call. It’s alwsyd better to be sure.
@ktcakes87 I was getting a little anxious yesterday. I know her patterns and she was not moving yesterday. I finally got up and did some jumping jacks. It made her move. Then she was up the whole night. I’m sorry you’re not feeling things as strong but glad you got some good kicks today.
Has anyone lost their mucus plug this early (I'm 28 weeks)? I lost my mucus plug today and it freaked me out. I called the hospital and they told me to come in and get checked out just to be on the safe side (I'm also carrying twins). I was a little dehydrated so they had me drink lots of fluids and they monitored the babies heartbeats and me for contractions. I had no contractions and their heartbeats were fine. They also did a vaginal exam and I was not dilated and my cervix was still pretty long. They sent me home. I'm so glad they are staying put for now because we have nothing ready. I need at least 8 or more weeks.
@clovelyone Yes, I also lost my MP early (33 weeks) in my prior pregnancy and you absolutely did the right thing getting checked out. In my case, it was a sign that labor was starting early, as I was surprised to learn that I was 1cm dilated and having contractions that I couldn't feel. I'm so glad I went in to get checked out, because without that exam and some drugs, I may have progressed to full labor (I ended up on bedrest until I delivered at 36 weeks).
It sounds like you are totally fine though; when it happened to me, I googled A LOT and basically learned that the MP sometimes gets dislodged early and can regrow without any huge issues; but if it does come out early, it's important to get a thorough check to make sure nothing weird is happening.
I'm going to *TMI* this because I'm not sure how comfortable this group is with more graphic details. I'm hoping we'll be able to be candid with each other as we approach l&d... This morning I had some really watery discharge with a little bit of mucus, which was weird because I hadn't seen anything like tacky ewcm since early 1st tri. First I was worried about fluid leaking but talked myself down. But the talk of mucus plug above makes me wonder if the tackier strings were a bit of that? Is that possible? 29+4 today.
Does discharge increase or get more watery in third tri? I keep reading that amniotic fluid has no smell or smells sweet?
