Trying to Get Pregnant

TTC with post-pill amenorrhea

it's been two months since I've stopped BC. No period. I get cramps that come and go, they last for a few days then nothing. Negative HPT two weeks ago, but of course everything that is happening to me is "a symptom". Gaggiging while brushing my teeth, stabbing pains in my boobs and pregnancy brain. I could not focus to save my life yesterday.  I need more sticks to pee on but I cannot even tell you how "late" I am because I never got my period.

You definitely don't have to leave. We get a lot of drive by posts from people who never come back, so that's why we ask that you get involved and introduce yourself! The ladies here are super knowledgeable and will likely have advice about your amenorrhea.

    QFP.

If you've been off BC and haven't had a period for 60 days, call your doctor to get your cycles started.
Not sure what you expected to get from a group of ladies online with a one-off post.

If you want to be a part of the community, read the Newbie Guide, lurk, introduce yourself, and participate.

If you weren't asking if you were pregnant then why would we need to know how "late" you are.

Listen, I get it. When you come off the pill and don't get a period for 60 days, it's a lot easier to hope that maybe, somehow, magically, those negative HPTs are all wrong and those "symptoms" that you've been having mean something other than that you desperately want to be pregnant. Don't pretend you weren't trying to ask if you're maybe possibly pregnant and not instead having a problem, because as the other ladies have pointed out, you were definitely asking. Own it and apologize.

Let me answer the question you didn't ask. No, you most likely aren't pregnant if you haven't gotten a period or a positive HPT within 60 days. Your symptoms are wishful thinking. You don't need more sticks to pee on. You need to call your doctor ASAP and get evaluated for possible reproductive issues. ETA: Hopefully you won't have any and this will just be a fluke.
  • If I recall correctly, it can take up to 3 months for fertility to return once stopping BCP.  So, honestly, I would give it another month before calling your doctor.

My RE specifically told me that if your period doesn't come within 60 days, then that's not normal. He said most women's bodies will regulate themselves within 60 days if they are normal. But maybe other doctors have a different opinion.

ETA: and I'm sure there's plenty of anecdotal evidence to the contrary of women going on to get pregnant after "jump starting" their period after 60+ days. I asked my RE about this (hoping maybe that would happen to me). He said that does sometimes happen but he doubts if those women's hormones are actually functioning properly and thinks that there is probably still some underlying level of hormonal dysfunction even if it didn't prevent eventual ovulation or pregnancy. That's the kind of "fluke" situation I was referring to.
  • I think the deal is that you might not ovulate for 90 days, but you should get your period within 60.
  • @beanship, I completely agree with the 60 days rule, I have had ammenorhea, since January.

I just thought it was 90 when stopping hormonal BC.    I know everytime I have stopped in the past I would be irregular for a few months.
  • @holly321 Yeah I thought it was 90 too and went to an RE after 90 days of amenorrhea (turned out I have PCOS). I was SHOCKED when he said that most healthy women will regulate within 60 days of coming off of hormonal birth control (although I think he said it might take longer if you were on depo bc of the higher levels of hormones used in it), because everywhere you look online it says 90 days! That's why I have such a vivid memory of him saying that - I was like, "Wait...only 60?!" So my doctor might be in the minority in thinking that.
  • @beanship, he might not be.  I honestly never discussed the after BCP effect with my doctor, I just went by the 90 day online advice and at the time I ovulated regularly after a few months.

But, my periods stopped coming months after being off BCP, I did call at 60 days.

FWIW every time I have started and stopped any form of hormonal birth control it has taken 12 months or more to get a period. Longer to regulate.
