Prenatal vitamins

Hi all--so I was wondering as I have googled enough to freak myself out (I know, bad habit) if there was anyone else on this forum who did not take a prenatal/vitamin until they got their BFP? My first I took prenatals months before concieving, this one, not until I found out I was pregnant did I start because this wasn't planned. Anyone else in same boat?

I rarely remember to take them...
and when I do remember to take them, there's a good chance they won't stay down.

You just do the best you can and sometimes that has to be enough.
  • I'm in the same boat with barely remembering to take them.  I need to start leaving them out in my line of sight, like kitchen counter or bathroom vanity.
  • I didn't take them until I got my BFP this time around. I'm not concerned.
  • Like others said as long as you aren't eating Arbys every meal you should be fine. A lot of foods are fortified anyhow so I net you have been getting enough.

I think folate is the main concern early on… which you can also get from leafy greens, nuts etc... but it drastically decreases NTDs. That is why it's recommended woman trying to conceive take it.  We tried for nine months, I was really good at first but then I got more sporadic as I was getting frustrated. So I certainly wasn't perfect either. But I definitely take them daily now!!

@justsuzie my PNV and DHA requires 7 pills a day...I'm super anal about getting the vitamin thing right that I do it even though it's a major chore and makes me gag. It's called new chapter and is organic and has more vitamins and minerals than I've seen in any other vitamin. It also has folate instead of folic acid. The DHA I take is the same brand and you have to do 4 a day for that and 3 a day for the PNV. I recommend it if you're a vitamin freak like me.

ETA: makes me gag cause everything makes me gag, not that the pill is disgusting.
  • I also take folate as opposed to folic acid. I have 3 pills a day.

  • @charlestonchew Yes, vitamin freak here.
  • I've stopped taking my prenatal on purpose because it makes my nausea so much worse.  I take a folic acid by itself, and that's it.  I'll start taking it again when I feel better.

I took naturemade brand prenatals at the beginning of my pregnancy in 2014 and attributed nausea and headaches to them, so I switched over to some gummy prenatals (target brand and vitfusion were my go to's) and seemed to help.  Could have just been in my head, but worth a shot to change up your brand.
