1) What kind of breed/pet do you have? The Big Iz is an old English sheepdog
2) What is your favorite thing about them? Her personality. She thinks she's a person.
3) Do they have any silly quirks? I baby my little sister and I swear her and Iz act like sisters. There was one time when I was putting sunscreen on my sister's face and Iz whined and barker until I put sunscreen on her face.
4) What is their "gotcha" story? She was rehomed online because her owner couldn't handle her at 4 months old. She had only been outside so she was afraid of everything.

I pretty much run an old folks home for pets at my house.
1) I have a cat (tortoise), a dog (long haired mini dachshund), and care for my MIL's dog (mixed dachshund and beagle). All are over 13 years old now.
2) Cat has slowed down a lot in her old age but she still has spastic moments when she runs around the house shrieking. Always funny. When my mini dachshund was young he'd curl up around my neck while I ate on the couch and lick the air while I lifted my fork to my mouth. It was hilarious. He's very old now and mostly sleeps in his bed and prefers to be undisturbed. MIL's dog is very sweet and patient with our toddler. She's the only one that will let DS touch her without snipping or growling. And she takes a LOT from him (climbing, ear pulling, eye poking, which we've greatly reduced over time with stern warnings and separations but she's taught him how to behave around animals).
3) I'll replace "quirks" with ailments here... like I said, they're all old. The cat is diabetic and has cataracts. The mini is paralyzed in his hind legs, incontinent, going blind, and pretty much deaf. MIL's dog is arthritic and has cataracts, too. We have three animals with ghostly eyes tottering around. Not much we can do but they can still see walls and don't run into anything. Hopefully the progression won't be too severe.
4) Cat was a rescue from the shelter, I inherited the mini from DW's previous relationship, and MIL's dog was a stray she took in.
Love this, @SkilledSailor!!!! Our almost 8yr old puppy is a must-mix of Pitt & boxer. She is a quiet dog. She literally goes weeks without making a single bark. When she does bark, it is one single bark and usually surprising to us she is using her voice! She is very playful still. Our pup doesn't chew anything but her toys, and recently all the toys with catnip (WTF?) She is a very well behaved dog, and very trainable. She knows sit, shake, lay down, roll over, and how to balance stuff on her nose. She sits while we get her food & waits for "Good girl" to start eating . MH rescued her from a shelter a few months before we met. He liked her for her brindle coloring!
Our kitten-cat is 6.5 months. We adoptedher from the same shelter as our dog. This cat bring so much joy to my life. Seriously. Even H comments on how much less "needy" I am now that we have the cat (#TuesdayTruths). She is my sidekick-follows me, lays on me every evening, sleeps with me, likes to get on between the shower curtains & watch people shower . She fell into my bath the other day :D. We wanted a cat that had grown up with a dog. She was actually in foster care a few houses down from us & was bottle raised.
And more....because I am crazycakes about my girls!
Love this! I will use any opportunity to talk about my fur-babies!
1) What kind of breed/pet do you have? Grace, the dog, is 7. She is a German shepherd, great Pyrenees, border collie mix. Glen, the cat, is 2. He is a silver tabby.
2) What is your favorite thing about them? My favorite thing about Grace is when she gets puppy crazies, as we like to call it. She is getting up there so I love it when she chases the cat or plays like a puppy again. I love that MH is so fond of Glen. Those two are just best buds. I don't mind at all that the cat likes MH more than me!
3) Do they have any silly quirks? Grace likes to let the cat run the house. She will be laying on her dog bed and Glen will come up to her and sniff around a little bit and then she will immediately get up and let him have the bed.
4) What is their "gotcha" story? Grace, I got when she was 6 weeks old from a house out in the country that had an oops litter. I was a junior in college and definitely should not have gotten a puppy. I call her my teenage pregnancy. I made sure she was always taken care of even if I was eating ramen. Glen we rescued from the shelter in Feb 2016. He was a stray and about 6 months old. Of course we went to "just look."
5) AW with a photo! Grace sporting her bandanna at a brewery recently. I can honestly never get a cute photo of her. She is always making faces.
Glen sitting at our bar. DH staged this photo with the watermelon drink.

2) What is your favorite thing about them? they're the best snugglers
3) Do they have any silly quirks? the one's purr is so loud and gargle-y sounding.. we make fun of it all the time.
4) What is their "gotcha" story? the orange one: he was 6months old, belonged to my nephew. My sisters house burned down so while they were living in a hotel during it all, we all took their pets in. We took him. My sister was never a cat person. My nephew was young. The cat lived outside half the time (which upset me)... so he just never left. The black one: my parents were on vacation and I was checking on their house. I heard this tiny little cry in some boxes on their porch. It was her! She was 2 wks old. A black cat was in a yard next door... so we don't know if I got in the way of her moving kittens or if she left this one for some reason (she did have some minor health issues so maybe the mom knew) But I took her in... had to 'mommy' her. Bottle feed her. Teach her to clean herself. Wipe her butt with wet rags to trigger her to go to the bathroom. She's pretty attached to me now.
5) AW with a photo! Spoiler cause I don't know how big it'll be

@krashke your cat picture for the win!!!! @tamalahoops. Your pup is so lovely! @wishiwaspreggo. I love that you are an old folks home for pets! @catlady1215. All the love for your cats! Our cat was hand-raised, too, from 2 weeks. She is convinced she is human!
@tamalahoops Oh my goodness! Iz is too cute! Love the sunscreen story, haha.
@wishiwaspreggo Aw love that you're caring so well for the old folks. Your Dachshund sounds like a character.
@jrm_14 That picture with the cookie! So well behaved!
1) What kind of breed/pet do you have? We think she's a collie/bernese mix. Maybe an Aussie mix? Who knows. We also have a Ragdoll cat. She's pretty much like a dog though.
2) What is your favorite thing about them? Sasha: She is so smart and just wants to be in the same room with you. She's not very needy (which I like), she's usually the quiet stoic type. She's also insanely well behave at this point. She was a star model in a photoshoot recently because she was so good at verbal commands while off the leash despite the craziness going on. Kirsi: She's a very affectionate cat and likes to cuddle on my lap while I work.
3) Do they have any silly quirks? Sasha: Well she has pretty bad anxiety but that's gotten better with age. One of my favorite things she does is when she gets a new toy she'll prance around with it, almost dressage horse style. Like she's so proud of it and showing it off. Kirsi: She's kind of a bitch sometimes. She'll hid behind a corner and wait for Sasha to come by and then "attack" her. She's lucky Sasha hasn't done anything back.
4) What is their "gotcha" story? Sasha: I was living in a sketchy apartment complex in college and wanted a dog as a guard dog/protection. Sasha was the winner at the pound although I later found out she's the worst guard dog ever as she only barks when her anxiety acts up. Kirsi: She was originally my parent's cat but my sister's OCD was acting up and the cat was a trigger. I offered to take her until my sister left for college. By the time that happened, H had fallen in love and my parents decided Kirsi was happier with us (she was for some reason) and she officially became ours.
Pics in spoiler because I couldn't choose just one.
@SkilledSailor Grace has anxiety too. It must be the collie. She will chew and actually eat things. She is particularly fond of bed skirts, throw blankets, and wood work (like trim and stair edges) because of this she is kenneled anytime were gone (for her own safety) and she is on anxiety meds ($65 a month ) but we just want her to be happy and healthy mentally and physically. I love that you could take Sasha to bark in the park. That looks so fun. I will have to see if any of the baseball teams around here offer that. Also, your wedding looks beautiful!
@wishiwaspreggo Glen was named after whiskey, Glenlivet, Glen Moray and Glenfiddich. We had a former cat that was named Gus. We have a thing for G names. Gus in spoiler

1) What kind of breed/pet do you have? We have two doxies
2) What is your favorite thing about them? They love each other. They look like they are soul mates. They are so adorable.
3) Do they have any silly quirks? Lucy hops sideways when she is playing. It's hilarious. also when we go on walks she looks like she is jump roping. She'll hop with one leg at a time and then two. It's so goofy. She also loves to pee in the pretty yards on our walks. The nice grass and Beautiful flowers.
4) What is their "gotcha" story? When we heard running around upstairs and thought the two were playing. When I looked over and saw Buster I realized Lucy was just zooming around upstairs by herself.
Everyone's pets are so cute!!!! @krashke Your cat in the shark bed totally wins.
1) What kind of breed/pet do you have? Two kitties. Thiebaud (pronounced Tee-bow) is about six years old, and was MH's cat before we met. MH is an artist, and named him after one of his favorite painters (Wayne Thiebaud). Asch is maybe two or three years old, and we just got him in May. I'm a social psychologist, so we named him after Solomon Asch (conducted famous research on conformity). Neither are any particular breed, but Thiebaud looks like a Russian blue and Asch has long black fur.
2) What is your favorite thing about them? Thiebaud loves snuggles (on his own terms!) and belly rubs. He's afraid of pretty much everything, but loves on us. Asch trills instead of meowing. It's the craziest thing ever. He'll also talk to himself while walking around the house. We'll hear him upstairs, "brrrrp, brrrrrrow, brrrrrr."
3) Do they have any silly quirks? I think they're pretty much made of silly quirks, as are all cats. We joke with Asch that we went to the shelter and asked them for the strangest cat they had.
4) What is their "gotcha" story? Both are rescue cats from shelters. Thiebaud was part of a litter that was born feral, but taken in by a shelter immediately. MH adopted Thiebaud and one of his brothers (the brother sadly died of some kind of brain tumor when he was only about two years old). We don't know Asch's backstory, just that he was brought to the shelter by animal control. He's super friendly, so clearly he was once part of a family, but we think he might have been on the streets for a bit.
5) AW with a photo! First photo is Thiebaud, second is Asch.
@krashke Definitely a collie trait. We tried everything for Sasha. The anxiety meds didn't help. She was still breaking out (crates and windows) and I was worried she'd be loopy and wander into a street without realizing it so I took her off of them. We also tried the supposedly indestructible crate. It took her longer to figure out how to break out but she eventually did. She's lost most of her teeth from the chewing (notice her floppy tongue, haha). I'm glad your pup seems to take the crate better!
And @SkilledSailor I'm sorry to hear that the meds didn't help Sasha. Grace has never gotten out of her crate but if there is anything within tongue distance she will find a way to pull it in and eat it. We do give her a Kong with peanut butter in the morning when we put her in there and that helps entice her to go in. Do you have to soften up Sasha's food if she has lost her teeth?
Those silly collies getting all worked up over nothing!

@tamalahoops AW Iz is adorable and you can actually tell by her face that she is smart. Story is priceless!
@wishiwaspreggo Wow you do have a senior bunch. But they sound like they are all so sweet. It is sad to see them get old, but so wonderful to know that they have led a good life and so loved.
@jrm_14 Your pup is too cute. I just love that look on her face waiting for that treat. Haha my cats like to go between the shower curtains and watch too. She is super cute and so good that she gets along with the dog too.
@krashke Grace is beautiful! I am pretty sure my cat likes MH better than me too! Love those poses.
1) What kind of breed/pet do you have? Inja is a chocolate lab, and I have two cats that are rescues, Sox and Apple.
2) What is your favorite thing about them? Inja is just so sweet, he makes me laugh ever day. He is smart, gentle and has the best ears ever. He tolerates me loving on him non-stop. He is very routine driven though and expects his walk first thing in the morning. He walks around the house trying to herd me upstairs so that I will change and take him. He is amazing off leash and will sit and speak (bark) before he is allowed to eat his food. But being a lab, he is obsessed with swimming, I seriously can not keep him out of water, and his ball/stick, he will do an entire hike with that same stick in his mouth refusing to drop it even though he is exhausted. The cats are lots of fun. Apple is scared of her own shadow and likes to be with her people all the time. plays fetch and does headbutts all the time. Sox is very independent and a bit of a beauty queen. She likes to be outside at night, hunts and then comes in and sleeps all day.
3) Do they have any silly quirks? Even with his size, Inja will not push open a door or do anything if he needs to use his nose to nudge. He still thinks he is a lap dog at 95lbs. Apple likes to put her "toys" ie my hair ties into the water dish. I have found some strange items floating around.
4) What is their "gotcha" story? Sox is the oldest and I got her when I was living in an apartment and was just missing animals so much. Apple was also a rescue and I got her to keep Sox company, although they hated each other initially. Apple was chosen because of her markings. Inja we got from a breeder who had hunting dogs. I have always wanted a chocolate lab and after getting the house we finally had the room.
@skilledsailor omgosh, the fluff! my little girl used to shed her coat every summer to this scranny looking cat. then be super fluffy all winter. we got her fixed this past February and she didn't shed this summer... and I was happy cause I love fluffy cats!
I love all these pics!!!

@darkstar42 - I love when people name their pets after artists/musicians! My brother named is dog Jaco after Jaco Pastorius (jazz musician) because my brother is a jazz musician, too. Everyone refers to Jaco as "he" and it annoys my brother because the pooch is female. Well, he did give her a male name... lol
1) What kind of breed/pet do you have? I have a cat and a mutt dog
2) What is your favorite thing about them? He is the cutest, sweetest dog and can be either lazy and do nothing all day, or go on a 10 mile hike (even though he is only 13 lbs). My cat is just a big fat smoosh
3) Do they have any silly quirks? Tucker (the dog) will play dead on command, gives both high fives and is a big kisser. He also loves to cuddle in bed and cries when I tell him its time to get out of bed. Literally cries and howls and throws a temper tantrum because he loves to snuggle in bed.
4) What is their "gotcha" story? My cat, Padfoot, I got 2 days after I move to Ohio for vet school because...vet school. I NEEDED an animal. My dog I got from a rescue when my H and I decided we were ready for a dog- he had just been shipped up from a high kill shelter in Virginia where he was found and we saw him and fell in love.
5) AW with a photo!
My cat and my dog: the cats neck is shaved because he is a blood donor and had just donated some blood for another cat.
YAY! furbabies! 1) What kind of breed/pet do you have? two crazy cats, The Brat Princess Bohica is a calico and Tarfu, the Cuddling Conqueror is an orange tabby.
2) What is your favorite thing about them? Oh my goodness I have to choose one thing? Uhm... Bohica is fairly antisocial and hates just about everyone, except DH is her human and ADORES him. She is his fur BFF. But she is liking me more and more and comes to me for snuggles when she's ticked off at DH. It's pretty funny, she will blatantly ignore him because he was gone all day and come to me for attention even though I was gone for just as long of a time My favorite thing about Tarfu is at night, usually sometime around 2-3AM, she paws at the blankets until I lift them up for her to get under them, then she snuggles until I get up for work in the morning. 3) Do they have any silly quirks? So many things. DH can get Bohica to yodel although she seems to have caught on and stops meowing when he does it also, she is a medium hair and she has a little head but a big body and these big silly ears and has such a soft cuddly coat. We're fairly certain she has a little bit of rag doll in her because she flops when DH picks her up. She also likes to eat vegetables. Then Tarfu is a short hair and has a big head with a smaller body and normal sized ears she has "hieroglyphics" in her coat. She doesn't really like vegetables, but she loves anything with meat or milk in it as well as pancakes and cheesy poof balls
4) What is their "gotcha" story? One of DH's old co-workers found pregnant stray and gave us Bohica, she was the runt of the litter. DH says he got her for DSD and I. Of course she bonded with DH immediately so we discussed getting another one. A co-worker of mine knew someone with kittens (also from a pregnant stray, probably a barn cat) and DSD picked out Tarfu from the kittens left. So they're both about the same age, and we got them within about 3 days of each other, but they're from separate litters.
5) AW with a photo! In spoiler cause dunno how big they are:
1: My itty bitty kitties about a week or so after we got them And yes, that is a giant rubber ducky.
2: Tarfu the ninja cat
3: Bohica <3s her h00man
4: sleepy kitties The Avengers

@lurvleybunchococonuts. The descriptions of your cat names and their personalities crack me up. Our dog only eats sauteed vegetables. She's a picky picky princess! Eta:was it your cat a while back that was hanging out on the door hanger?!
@wishiwaspreggo my kittencat has a traditionally male name. When she is called he, I usually gently correct
@lurvleybunchococonuts Love the titles added to your cat names! We call ours Thiebaud the Unruly (aka his highness or "who's the fattest kitty ever?") and Asch the Usurper (aka tiny biter).
Haha, yes that was Tarfu who jumped up ontop of the coats on the door silly puppy! She sounds like a princess Eta: both kitters also love to creep in the shower, they sit between the liner and curtain and meow or try to push each other in the water

2) What is your favorite thing about them? She's the sweetest. She thinks she's a human. She gets so excited her whole body wags. She's the best snuggler. Dachshunds are so funny when they get energetic because of their long bodies.
3) Do they have any silly quirks? Ha. See above. But she gets really mad if everyone is standing and she's on the ground. She likes to be as close to eye level as she can be or she feels left out and barks/pouts.
4) What is their "gotcha" story? We got her as a puppy when we were only 22. DH had never had a dog before (ever), and he had no idea what he was getting into, but before law school he worked on a popular daytime tv show and he had to watch 20 hours of footage on these poor, abandoned dachshund puppies that ended up being rescued (we didn't get one of those, though we tried), and he felllll innnn looooveee. I grew up with tons of dogs so I knew what a puppy would bring, and I thought it was funny he didn't. Fun fact: a puppy in a 350 sqft nyc apt is chaos - utter chaos.
5) AW with a photo! Um I chose to share tons instead.
1) What kind of breed/pet do you have? Pembroke Welsh Corgi
2) What is your favorite thing about them? I'm 99% sure she's half pig. She snorts, loves food, and acts like a pig.
3) Do they have any silly quirks? See above.
4) What is their "gotcha" story? I found this video online (see spoiler), and thought it was the funniest thing ever. So, DH and I decided to start contacting breeders to see if there was a female available. Luckily a breeder from Seattle had one left. A couple of months later we drove across the border and picked her up.
1) What kind of breed/pet do you have? Cats - a female siamese mix named Lulu and a male black DSH named Ollie Dog - a female black lab named Rickie
2) What is your favorite thing about them? all the snuggles!
3) Do they have any silly quirks? Lu meows and brings me her "kill" (some toy), every night. She won't stop mewing until I tell her she is a good huntress. She also used to go hike with my husband, and when she got tired, she would ride on his backpack. Rickie is too smart for her own good. She was a failed companion dog for a deaf man, so she was trained to open doors before we got her. Now she opens the back door to let the cats outside (they like to sit in our fenced in back yard). She does this if I've told them that they can't go out because it is raining, but they are still meowing. Ollie just eats everything...
4) What is their "gotcha" story? All of them were "lets just go to the shelter to look" pets. MH now knows that I don't just go to the shelter without bringing an animal home...
@doxiemoxie212 Too cute! @MrsBunz What an awesome story. I love that he opens the doors even when they aren't supposed to go out. It is like the kids are conspiring together lol
@doxiemoxie212 LOVE your doxie!!! My DH is 6'1" and he'll be standing deep in thought and she'll be sitting at his feet and he won't see her. She'll "yell" to get his attention and he'll jump a mile high. It's so startling lol I totally know what you mean. "Pick me up!" We let our's sit at the table on pillows when we're playing board games. It's hilarious
@SkilledSailor she definitely looks like a berner, and they are known for their anxiety (my parents have one), if she is a berner/collie mix she might be getting it from both genetic sides. @krashke what anxiety meds? Our dog had severe separation anxiety when MH deployed the first time and we had to put her on prozac and ativan. She was on them threw the deployment and the first few months after homecoming, but then we weaned her off them. I got them at Walgreens and they weren't too bad, price wise.
1) What kind of breed/pet do you have? 1 Chihuahua and 1 1/2 Chihuahua 1/2 mini Pinscher
2) What is your favorite thing about them? they are so loving!
3) Do they have any silly quirks? a million, but my favorite is one that loves to hide her dog treats all over the house and the other is obsessed with burrowing in blankets
4) What is their "gotcha" story? they were strays on the street fighting w/ the neighbors cat that was twice their size. No one claimed them after 2 weeks, so we homed them
@krashke when I was in veterinary school my school had a massive referral hospital so they had a whole blood bank, so thats where I did it. Now, he donates to the local emergency clinic.
@MrsBunz she is on Clomicalm which is clomipramine hydrochloride. Not sure if we can get a generic. I've been meaning to call the vet to ask if there is something less expensive but it works and it hasn't affected her personality so it's worth it.

Let's hear about your fur babies! We just got a new husky puppy!!
1) What kind of breed/pet do you have? Yorkie (Prince) and Husky (Apollo and Dream)
2) What is your favorite thing about them? They comfort me when I am feeling down.
3) Do they have any silly quirks? The huskies do this crazy super hyper run... slightly terrifying but hilarious lol. My Princey does his crazy run when you mention the word "outside" lol.
@krashke there is a generic of Clomicalm (called Clomipramine or just clomipramine hydrochloride) used with people, but I'm not sure if it is approved for veterinary use. It may be worth asking the vet.
2) What is your favorite thing about them? She is an absolute cuddle bug!! She's almost always on one of laps.
3) Do they have any silly quirks? When she's being wild, she'll do laps around our house. But my fav thing is she "talks back". If we're not paying attention to her or she doesn't like it when we tell her no, she barks at us and moves her head just like she's talking back.
4) What is their "gotcha" story? I've wanted a Yorkie puppy forever but they're so expensive. One day we were walking downtown and this little groomer had a Yorkie puppy in the window. We went in to pet it. It was w little boy (I wanted a girl so we could litterbox train her). The owners said the breeder had one little girl left. They brought her in the next day and at first she was shaking and didn't really want to play or have anything to do with me. So I finally just sat down on the floor because I was tired of kneeling and she came over, sat on my lap, curled herself into a ball, and fell asleep. I was sold! She's the love of my life!
@purplg8r OMG! You can take your dog to Disney?! Sasha is about to go one the longest car ride of her life because she has to experience the most magical place on earth! Really though, is this a special event they hold?
Re: GTKY: AW Your Pet(s)
2) What is your favorite thing about them? Her personality. She thinks she's a person.
3) Do they have any silly quirks? I baby my little sister and I swear her and Iz act like sisters. There was one time when I was putting sunscreen on my sister's face and Iz whined and barker until I put sunscreen on her face.
4) What is their "gotcha" story? She was rehomed online because her owner couldn't handle her at 4 months old. She had only been outside so she was afraid of everything.

2 cats

@tamalahoops. Your pup is so lovely!
@wishiwaspreggo. I love that you are an old folks home for pets!
@catlady1215. All the love for your cats! Our cat was hand-raised, too, from 2 weeks. She is convinced she is human!
^She was so happy to be at Bark in the Park
^She likes belly rubs
@catlady1215 Aw how sweet of you to take in the little one! I love how fluffy she is!

5) AW with a photo!

@catlady1215 beautiful kitties!
@skilledsailor Sasha is lovely. And your cat looks super sweet. My cats, the belly is a no fly zone.
5) AW with a photo!

@skilledsailor omgosh, the fluff! my little girl used to shed her coat every summer to this scranny looking cat. then be super fluffy all winter. we got her fixed this past February and she didn't shed this summer... and I was happy cause I love fluffy cats!

5) AW with a photo!
Cats - a female siamese mix named Lulu and a male black DSH named Ollie
Dog - a female black lab named Rickie
