@fishsticks-n-custard I appreciate your knowledge on the matter! I prefer to have correct information than to look like an idiot. Feel free to lurk anytime. Hope you're doing good in April!
@kalawa That and moreso because the vena cava (large vein in your abd) runs parallel to that and can be easily compressed by a pregnant uterus (once it's bigger in the 2nd and 3rd trimesters), which can drop your blood pressure because it diminishes blood return to the heart (preload). At least that's the traditional thinking.

@momo214 I'm an ER doc so helpful with some pregnancy related stuff depending on the topic. (Though I become a paranoid nightmare and all medical knowledge goes out the window when it comes to my own pregnancy/kids! )

I have a friend from my last bump group that's a cardiatric surgeon, and she's the same way. Every time her LO gets a mild fever her head starts racing with all the what ifs, but if it's one of our kids she's usually the first person to say take a chill pill.
Wait, you're a doctor!? This is perfect. @fishsticks-n-custard Please tell us, do you think it's medically possible to feel your baby take practice breaths in the womb? What is the most likely cause (since we know it's not the abd aorta ) of the rhythmic motion some women believe is practice breathing?
No, I seriously doubt that's possible. I mentioned it to the other doc when I first read the thread and she agreed. It's such a small muscle movement on such a small person. But babies move around like crazy! There's plenty of other movement for moms to feel that isn't breathing. Or even (and not to be gross) it can be peristalsis of your own intestine that you're feeling, and not the baby.
And no, I have absolutely no scientific studies to back that up, because no one would fund that -ish when there are things like cancer and dementia research to fund.

We VERY accidently conceived our second four months after our first. I felt like I'd been pregnant forever. It was awful. Worth it in the end, but AWFUL.

Holy crap I just saw the dates on your siggy and actually did the math. So your daughter's adjusted age was not even 12 months when you had your son. How did you function with a tiny tiny LO and HG?
Sooo I was all talking to DH about PTing our second at 18 months... and then he (DS) decided the other day that he wants to PT now. So here I am giving PTing a not quite 16 month old a try. DH is out of town the next two weeks, so I figure I'll see how this goes and decide at the end of two weeks if it's worth keeping going or go back to diapers.

My almost 18 month old just started walking so I'm going to hold off on that until he starts it himself.
@sparkymcgeee It was rough. My HG was well controlled with meds (so long as I didn't dare miss a dose) but was still interfering with my life until the end of the first tri. Once I hit third tri the beginning of pre-ecclampsia began to set in. Those two trimesters I relied a lot on family and my husband so I could rest, and thankfully my daughter wasn't mobile yet. Second tri was completely fine...In fact I was extra crazy and did a musical during that.
I potty trained mine at 20 and 22 months. It's actually easier to do it while they are still relatively compliant. In my experience 2yo are on a no power trip and getting them to do anything they don't want to do is terrible.

Mine is already in a power trip... Trust me, the one that's currently baking was not supposed to happen til the one that's out was potty trained and in VPK... I had a plan. Lol

I totally agree with this! I potty trained my oldest when she was 22 months. I waited with #2 and #3 and it was so much harder. I feel like there is a window when potty training is no big deal.
@poppy0419 This is what we did with our girls a month after they turned 2, and I loved it. We used a small training potty, and we also have a seat that fits under the regular toilet seat. We did, and still do, use pull ups at night, and we did use them for naps and longer car rides until they started staying dry for both of those things. They are now down to pull ups only at night. I still carry a little potty in the back of my minivan for convenience. And be warned, pooping in the potty may take longer, for a whole list of reasons. Mine seemed to "get it" but still had poop accidents pretty frequently until about 6 months ago. They would tell me they had to go when they already had, so I think it just took them a little while to understand the "pre-have to go" feeling. https://www.lucieslist.com/toddlerhood/the-two-day-method-potty-training/ ETA clarity

@poppy0419 No it really isn't. It went way better than we imagined, and that was with two at once. ETA I also really like that the author is really laid back, and lets you know that it's okay to do what you think is right. Take it at your pace, and add/subtract the things you think will help your specific kid.

I loosely follow the oh crap potty training book. We spend a few days staying at home totally naked with the little potty right here, then we go commando for a month or so.
@Poppy0419 We did the same thing as @sandbar517. He's been out of pull-ups for a few months now. We did a 16 hour car trip this summer and just stopped frequently. For shorter rides, we just make him go right before we leave the house and right when we get to our destination. You can do it!
We did approximately Oh Crap for my first and it mainly worked well. I think one thing that made it easier for my second (besides watching her sister) is that I let her hang out naked a lot before attempting PTing. Like for hours in the backyard all summer. Obv timing doesn't work out for all birthdays or climates but all the couple day /weeeknd methods are the same just more intense. I knew she was ready when one day she had climbed up this stone wall and then looked at me, touched her crotch and said "pee". Then she climbed down and squatted in the grass. So like a week later I decided to go for it, even though she had just turned 20 months. The first day I don't think she peed at all. I still put a diaper on her for nap and night, so she just held it until then. The second day she had A LOT of accidents. The third day she would pee a tiny bit and then stop and made the rest in the potty. The fourth day she nailed it, potty training comlete. Within a week we dropped nap diaper too. Still do one at night, but that's mainly because I love sleep and she will sleep longer if she doesn't have to get up to pee.... though we have had a couple regressions already. When she gets a cold, she has accidents. I think she is just tired and staying dry requires too much energy. She also sometimes refuses to try and then pees her pants, but I learned with my first that sometimes accidents are better than a battle. Eventually she'll want to stay dry and I want her to be able to feel like she has some control over her own life - it's the only way to get through age 2, IMO!
Tuesday confession: I am wearing maternity shorts today. Logically it is waaaaay too early but they are so comfy. I don't think I'm going to fully break out the maternity clothes for a while but these shorts might be out to stay.
@glitzandglitter Getting dressed this morning I was thinking, I can wear maternity pants now, right? Real life clothes are a struggle. Power to the stretchy waistband.
I have a job interview today and seriously considered wearing a maternity dress. It doesn't LOOK like a maternity dress. I have some really cute mat dresses so I'm pretty excited to get to wear them again for that specific purpose.

To all of you asking if its acceptable to wear maternity clothes now.... Can I admit I haven't stopped wearing maternity pants since my daughter was born 16 months ago?
The interview went well but I don't think I will take it. The commute was bad and the pay isn't better and the hours aren't good. That combined with no FMLA and I think I will be better served to stick it out and hope for an internal position. My toxic boss is going on leave very soon and I can deal.
