Anyone still checking in?

Re: September randoms

  • I usually check about once a day. I never really have anything to post though. But It's pretty crazy that our babes are about to be 7 months later this week!
  • Still checking in maybe once or twice a week. I have a random bitchfest I guess it would be, lol. So my wedding anniversary is next week on Friday and I have that Thurs, Fri, Sat, Sun off. My MIL's boyfriend keeps offering us a night stay at the casino with some amenities, and MIL wants to keep Athena overnight. Well, I don't like the casino so my husband said we can see a concert there instead of gambling. But I really don't want to spend a night without my daughter. I'm not ready and it is giving me anxiety even thinking about it. I keep saying no but I feel almost like I am being pressured to accept. I have no clue what to do, other than keep saying no thank you over and over. I'm not comfortable with it. I don't know how else to say it. Athena isn't even 7 months yet, when she is older than she can have fun sleepovers with her grandma, but not now. I know I won't enjoy myself or sleep if I'm not with her. My MIL is not pushy so I don't think she is pressuring my husband  b/c she wants to babysit, but I already told my husband I'm not interested more than once. So I don't know if he is looking for a night alone or why I keep getting asked. I countered with an offer of going to see a movie and having a date day while MIL babysits and we can pick Athena back up the same evening.

  • And sorry for bitching on the randoms thread lol
  • I still check in every few days, but don't have much to say usually.

I will say that Ella is officially eating table food at day care now! Her center provides meals and today for lunch she had macaroni and cheese, carrots, and peaches. Her teachers approached me last week and said they thought she was ready for table food. She was only getting purées and bottles. She's been doing great with the table food! She still gets a bottle or two at day care though. How is everyone else doing with solids?

@BlondePeanut happy almost anniversary! I'm sorry about your over night situation, I know I am definitely not ready for Ella to stay with her grandparents. I really like your compromise idea of a day date! I hope everything works out!
  • @BlondePeanut happy almost anniversary! I don't blame you for not being ready to leave her for a night. Honestly I haven't left Rid for more than 45 min and I was in the same building just a different room. Have you thought about taking her with you? Maybe not a concert or casino but something else so you could make it a mini family vacation? Our wedding anniversary is in October and I'm booking a trip with DH for just one night where we'll drive there and go to dinner with Rid and the next day go to the aquarium and drive home. I'm really excited and greatful to DH for letting Rid share in our celebration.

We started solids a little over a week ago. So far he's not a fan. We've tried rice cereal which he tolerates and avocado which he dislikes. We plan on trying banana later this week.

  • Still checking in once or twice a week I'd say - I just don't have too much to add usually.

@BlondePeanut I like the idea of a date day! I think it is stressful to leave the baby for the night as opposed to just during the daytime. Has your husband said if he likes that idea?

Wy-guy is doing great with solids. He has tried a lot and has seemed to like all of them. We just bought a bunch of the next stage up of purees. We tried an avocado and he had a little bit harder of a time figuring out the thicker texture so we will see how these thicker purees go.

  • Thank u ladies! I'm happy to hear I'm not just being paranoid. We are going to do a date day. I also like the idea of taking a family vaca. That is def an option too. Thanks for all the advice! :)

I usually check in a couple of times a week, but a lot of the time it seems like no one is on here :-/

@BlondePeanut I don't blame you for not wanting to leave your baby overnight! I had to go on a one-night work trip last week. I was gone for 36 hours, and it was really hard. It took me forever to fall asleep at the hotel, and I ended up only getting four hours of sleep. I think your day date idea is a good one!

And we've only done purees so far, but my LO is a huge fan of all of it. We've done sweet potato, green beans, chicken (mixed with sweet potato), avocado, pear, nectarine, strawberries, oatmeal cereal, and yogurt. I did let him try a little bit of watermelon over the weekend, and he actually didn't seem to like that. We will begin giving him finger foods soonish, but I am just so paranoid about choking!

  • Anyone else already thinking about having another? Senna is my first and I get really excited just thinking about her having a sibling. Realistically, we will wait until she is at least one to start trying again. It's just something fun to think about right now.
  • I check every week, but nothing is normally happening and I don't have anything that needs to be said.
We're in solids and C loves them! Doing a few finger foods for fun and he's doing well with that too.

@SawyerRichardson I don't blame you at all. We've been talking about another one for a bit so we finally just gave up and we're ntnp.  We'll actually try when he does hit one year. But based on what it took for C, we're not thinking it'll happen immediately. But if it does - I won't be upset.
  • @SawyerRichardson I hear ya and I've thought about it and get reminiscent whenever I see a pregnant woman but ultimately we're going to wait still. I love my time with Rid and I realize that once we add a 2nd I won't ever get this 1 on 1 time with a child again so I'm not ready to give that up. Plus I want my body to be mine for at least a little bit. First it was all about baby making, then I was pregnant, now it's Rids food source, I haven't had any alcohol since the beginning of June 2016 lol. That being said DH and I have agreed that I won't go back on bcp so we'll rely on less effective methods and if I get pregnant earlier than planned I think we'll both be happy.

  • @BlondePeanut how did your anniversary go?

Solids: we've been trying various types of solids since around 4.5 months and LO has hated pretty much everything. Seriously 3 days ago, I gave him pureed carrots and he ate a couple bites without acting like it was a lemon lol. So the last couple days I've been giving him carrots and he's actually eating them. I told my husband we are going to stick to just carrots for a while so we hopefully don't go backwards. I do give him big pieces of celery and carrots though to just use as a teether since he doesn't have teeth and isn't biting anything off.

@marriedhamstermom I've been alcohol free too! Actually next May we are supposed to be doing a big vacation so I told my husband I'm going to hold off until then (I'm pumping, and plan on stopping that at 1 year) and then im going to order a few super awesome, ridiculously expensive mix drinks lol. @SawyerRichardson we occasionally talk about another baby, but we are undecided. Even if we have another, I want to enjoy some alone time with Austin before seriously considering it. My older kids are 2.5 years apart which is ideal IMO for having them closer in age, but I feel like I got cheated on baby and mommy time so I'm really just enjoying it this time. I definitely get wanting another though because I'm pretty sure I'm one of those ladies who could always want more lol.

  • @dreamingofbabies It went great thanks! MIL watched Athena for the day and we did a little shopping and enjoyed eachother. But it was funny because we both were almost unsure what to do with ourselves without her with us after we had some alone time. And we ended up taking a day trip to a renaissance fair.

@SawyerRichardson  we talk about having another some days. we do want at least one more, and my neighbor was chatting with us about his 3 kids and my husband said well I am thinking we should start trying within the next year so the kids can be close together but also we can focus on Athena right now. We never really talked about timing except for that one comment.

She is all about her solids and food in general. Anytime we eat and she sees us, she wants whatever we have. She has tried tons of fruits and veggies and also chicken, turkey, and ham. She just started trying small diced pieces of food in addition to purees which she is all about, and she is easing into the puffs but she doesn't seem to like them very much.

  • And officially Athena has 2 teeth now and is sitting up all on her own with no support and crawling around. Unbelievable the skills she has mastered in the past 2 weeks.

We also made huge progress recently. Just 2 days ago LO randomly held himself up long enough in a sitting position to take a picture. And now today he's able to sit for several minutes. He'll still topple over but it's way different from just a couple days ago. And we also have 2 teeth with another on its way. The first one just came less than 2 weeks ago so we had a rough couple weeks lol.

  • Crazy how quickly all our LOs are hitting these milestones! Wyatt has 2 bottom teeth with the top 2 on the way. He can sit himself up from laying down, can crawl, and pull himself to kneel. He loves solids and wants to try like little bits of food but I don't think he gets chewing yet
  • Going off what I last posted, how did/are you going to transition into actual bits of food? I'm very nervous about the choking hazard obviously, I don't think Wyatt understands chewing yet haha. Do I start with something soft like eggs or my fiance suggested jello haha. We've given him mashed up avocados but I'm looking for something he can have in a restaurant....not as messy

@jlellis603 We started with steamed green beans. They were big enough for him to hold, but too big to eat
So he sucked on them mostly until pieces fell off. He did gag and we did have to take a few pieces that were too big out of his mouth. If you don't want to do that and he can pick up well - cheerios. They melt a bit in thier mouth. Also steamed apple chunks (then you can pick the size.) Mostly small and soft things so if they gag they can just swalow without a problem.
Now that his dexterity is better... we're rolling
  • @jlellis603 E’s day care actually thought she was ready for table food before I knew she could handle it lol...she gets soft foods at day care (bread, yogurt, soft fruits and veggies, etc.). There are also snacks like yogurt bites and puffys designed just for babies and melt easily to help prevent choking. Depending on the brand, the package will say “6 months,” “9 months,” or like “sitting,” “crawling” depending on where your baby is developmentally. I hope this helps!
  • Thanks guys! I think I'll just have to get over the fear of choking when he does decide he is ready for more solid things haha
  • Anyone have Halloween costumes picked out for their LO's? We still can't decide.
  • Yes! I really wanted her to be a dragon for Halloween (we are huge Game of Thrones fans) but I couldn’t quite find exactly what I wanted. My mom went out shopping and found this adorable butterfly costume on sale, so E is going to be a butterfly now!
  • Someone just gave us some hand-me-downs and there is a nice warm Mike Wazowski outfit (monsters inc.) in there that will fit the LO. It's a one piece thing and will be able to go over other clothes which is good because it's always cold here for trick or treating. My older kids will go, or else we probably wouldn't have dressed him up anyway this year. H wants to just buy something but I don't see the point when we got a free outfit to use.

  • She hates anything on her head so we were limited with costumes. She is going to be a glow in the dark pink skeleton. It is a black onesie with the skeletal design in hot pink that glows in the dark. It is really cute and will keep her warm too. We won't be trick or treating but we will probably go to MIL to hand out candy
  • Oh my goodness... this app/site has been all sorts of messed up.

  • Well I know it's December (ahh!) But I didn't want to start another thread so:

Alright I feel a little silly even typing this because I feel like the answer is pretty obvious but FTM brain is always over-worried. Wyatt has a stomach bug (he's had 3 liquid blowouts and a huge projectile vomited...scary) and the start of an ear infection. Luckily this was all the day of his 9 month appt. Anyway, he has been sleeping pretty much all day and night. He was up for maybe like 5 hours yesterday slept all night, just woke up for 15 mins for a bottle and fell back asleep. Is it possible for him to sleep too much? Silly I know haha. He isn't eating as much as usual since the doctor advised smaller bottles to see if he will keep them down. I'm just being over concerned right? No fever and we haven't started the amoxicillin yet. Thoughts?
  • @jlellis603 I’m so sorry to hear he is sick! My LO had the same thing this week with the vomiting and watery diapers...she must have given it to me because I was so sick yesterday that I had to leave work early!

I’m definitely not a doctor by any means, so take what I say with a grain of salt! But I would say he’s probably not sleeping too much. Our bodies can fight infections easier when we are resting, so sleeping more may be his body’s way of healing. As long as he is waking up to eat, I would say he is probably ok. If you are still concerned I would definitely reach out to his doctor!

*Edit - Double post, silly Bump!
  • @jlellis603 I'm sorry he's sick. It's no fun, and even as a third time mom, I question and second guess everything. I agree with everything @ColeBug89 said. He's probably just trying to fight it off... I know my dad and I both like to sleep off anything we have. My dad slept for 18 hours straight once, it was crazy!!

I second the call to the Dr. Even though they'll probably tell you he's fine, they can also give you other specifics. Like they might tell you to give him different liquids for hydration, or maybe to wake him up every so often, or maybe that he shouldn't go longer than X amount of time without eating, or to watch the color of his urine... they could just give you ease of mind as well as things you can do at home. Or maybe they'll say to just let him sleep lol.

I hope he feels better soon though, it's so sad when they are sick.  :(

  • Thanks ladies!! The doctor said that I should give him a few oz of formula at a time with an oz of Pedialyte mixed in. And if he can tolerate solids, some toast or Cheerios. I know the little guy is slightly dehydrated and I feel like I'm starving him by not giving him what he normally eats but I want him to keep it down. He's slowly getting there I think! Hopefully he's well enough for daycare tomorrow, I took days days with him last week haha
  • Oh and to let him sleep to let his tummy rest!
  • I hope he feels better soon @jlellis603! Keep us updated  <3

  • He seems to be doing much better! He was happy to go to "school" today! All in all he had some pretty gnarly diapers and 2 huge throw ups. He slept most of the 4 days he was sick. We did smaller bottles with Pedialyte mixed in and some bland things like Cheerios and toast. Now we are fighting off the start of an ear infection. Hope all your LOs (and you) make it through cold and flu season!
  • I'm glad he's feeling better! Hopefully that ear infection doesn't get crazy and he's back 100% soon.

  • Happy to hear he is feeling better! I agree I hope everyone stays healthy this fall/winter!
  • Whelp I'm going to post in here again because I feel like not a whole lot of us check in so making a new board might not matter!

We have been closing on our house since May... THAT'S RIGHT... May.... our mortgage lender was the worst and we are taking legal action... but anyway! So we have moved 3 times in in 6 months and are finally moving into our house soon! Wyatt has been sleeping in a pack n play the whole time because we have been crashing with my parents and my in-laws. He usually wakes up fussy once a night (not hungry) and in order to be mindful of our parents' sleep, we just put him in bed with us and he falls asleep again instantly. I'm so done with this (I was like 5 months ago haha) but I'm worried about breaking this habit this late in the game. Any suggestions on "sleep training" or just self soothing type of deal. His PNP has been in our room so this will be the first time he is in his crib in his own room. He does use a pacifier but doesn't  seem to know how to find it in the PNP at night. Am just in for a long road of sleepless nights?

  • Austin doesn't even come close to sleeping through the night, but this is how I do things here since I get so much practice getting him to sleep  :D

When Austin wakes up in the middle of the night, he looks for his pacifier but can't always find it. Sometimes it falls to the floor (He's in a crib) or it's under him. I give it back to him and lay him back and just rub is back (he likes to sleep on his side) if he's laying on his back I pat his tummy or just gently touch his face. It usually dies the trick. (Of course this is if he's not just hungry, because he still gets up to eat at least twice a night)..  Sometimes he won't go to sleep he just sits up and starts fussing, so I move him to my bed. Once he falls asleep, I move him back to his crib, so that when he wakes up he's in his own bed.

You could try a wubbanub Or however it's spelled. It's the pacifier connected to a small stuffed animal. He might be able to find it on his own that way. I saw someone suggest it to help with them falling through the crib slats but I haven't tried it yet. I just crawl under there lol. Once you get in your own house, you might want to try to just let him cry it out a bit to see if he calms down and goes back to sleep on his own. On nights my husband is working, I let Austin fuss until he is actually upset, then I get him. I keep hoping he'll figure out a way to go back to sleep on his own. Sometimes he finds his pacifier and goes back to sleep and sometimes he doesn't. I'm clearly not picky or a pro lol...

Congratulations on your house!! I hope you get settled in easily. :)

  • @kswiger06 well as much as it's not fun (cause I know haha) I'm glad I'm not alone! I usually let him fuss until he is actually upset too but he hardly ever just stirs, he's always upset haha. I never thought of a wubanub! Maybe I'll give that a try. He's probably not comfortable on the PNP mat thing and sleeps better on an actual mattress so hopefully that helps a little bit. Ugh I hope I can make it through the "cry it our phase" without crying myself haha. He's starting to not want to be rocked to sleep and wants to just do his own thing so I'm hoping that's a good sign! I hope you LO starts to sleep through the night, is he different than your other kids were?

Thank you! We got a rehab house so we are just finishing up the remodel. I need us to be in by Christmas, I'd be heartbroken if we weren't
  • @jlellis603 Congrats on your home!

I really have no advice, but I feel your pain. My LO will be one year next week (already!!) and she still does not sleep through the night. It also got to the point that she goes in bed with us and I’m over it as well! Her crib is still in our bedroom, but I’m hoping to transition her to her own room here soon.

It’s also hard to tell with my LO because sometimes when she wakes up it’s just a binky check and other times she wants to eat. She gets three solid (adult) food meals a day plus food snacks and bottles (2 at day care and 1 before bed), so you would think she gets enough calories during the day that she wouldn’t need to feed at night, but I guess not.

Just know you aren’t alone, and our LOs will sleep own their own eventually (even if that means when they are adults and out of the house haha).
  • @ColeBug89 oh my gosh a whole year already!? That must be surreal haha. Well at least we aren't all alone here haha. Wyatt never wants to eat he just doesn't like to wake up.....? I don't know haha. I'm glad you bring her to bed because I feel like I get shamed for it ugh. Trust me, we want our space haha! How many oz are in the bottles your LO gets? Wyatt gets 3 adult food meals and five 6 oz bottles a day. I'd say I hope that's not too much but if he wants it then I won't stop him haha
