Hurricane Irma

Wasn't sure if this was random, a confession, a bitchfest or what. But y'all...I'm getting freaked out about this hurricane. I'm in the Tampa Bay area and the latest route shows Irma as almost a direct hit to us as a category 3 or 4. My family and baby are going to be safe, but I'm worried I'll come home to no roof or no house. :disappointed:

Re: Hurricane Irma

  • I'm so sorry you are dealing with this but I'm so glad you will all be safe! Sending love and prayers that damage is minimal.

  • @caeilievalor I'm so sorry you're going through this! It would freak me out too if I lived an area that will get hit, but the most important thing is you and your family will be safe. I'm hoping/praying your house will have minimal damage.
  • You guys will be in my thoughts and prayers! Keep us updated if you can  <3
  • Praying for everyone in Irma's Path! Stay safe!

  • How scary! Did you evacuate out of state? Hopefully the storm surprises everyone in a good way and goes back out to sea.
  • I'm thinking of you down there! It must be terrifying. I have an online friend who isn't evacuating because they couldn't find anywhere to go with their pets.
  • I'll be thinking of you! The westward turn helped us out a bit, but we are in prep mode here in South GA. I think our biggest concern now is how long we will be without power. When Matthew came through last year, it was 4 days of "glamping".

  • My parents are in West Palm Beach and the earliest they could have evacuated was yesterday afternoon after my dad's store closed (finally) so they chose to stay. Fortunately it looks like they are out of the worst of it now, but I'm still worried for them and everyone else! We are 19 hours away so it's pretty much impossible for us to do anything.
  • You and your family are in my prayers. Keep us updated if you can.
  • @caeilievalor I am in Tallahassee with both sets of parents, other family, and friends in Tampa and Ft Myers so I completely understand what you are feeling (originally from Tampa). Hope you all stay safe!

  • I'm on the GA/SC border, our main concern is prolonged power outages too. But I've got water and enough PB&J ingredients! To all of you who live in the affected areas, I'm keeping you in my thoughts  <3
  • Thoughts and prayers your way.. Ladies.  Stay safe and keep updated  if possible <3
  • How is everyone? We have been without power since 7 and a few trees have fallen on houses in our town so far. Savannah flooding is out of control.

  • @Dani0329 I'm so sorry about the power being out! I'm here in Augusta, it's been pretty windy, some trees and stop signs have fallen across the street and power is out for a lot of people, thankfully we're not affected by it. I still went to my AS today because it didn't look too bad from my window but driving was pretty scary! I can't imagine what it's like in other areas  :/
  • Over here in Orlando the winds were pretty scary last night! The power kept flickering off but always came back on. DH and I were pretty fortunate compared to many others around us. Living in Florida, this was not our first hurricane but it is definitely more stressful when you are expecting! I hope all you other mamas who were hit by Irma are okay!
  • @agalvarado
I'm glad you were able to make it to the AS! I never got the call that they were cancelling mine and it is calm now, so maybe we lucked out!

Power is still out but that happens a lot to us. 4 days without power for Matthew.

  • We're in upstate SC so it's not supposed to get too bad, just wind and rain. Thankfully we haven't had more than a few branches fall so far. One of my co-workers had 3 trees fall in the first couple of hours after she got home from work earlier today (we both cut out early afternoon) and one of them is blocking her driveway but luckily none have hit her house. We've got a dead oak tree in the front yard leaning toward the house and one in the back leaning toward the power lines so we're hoping to make it through the night without either of them falling.
  • In the SC midlands we're getting heavy wind and rain. We lost power for about an hour today, but no trees down on our property yet. They lowered our lake by 4 feet in anticipation of the storm so we shouldn't have any flooding problems

  • @gusgus14 I hear that the worst of the wind and rain is supposed to come after midnight. *sigh*

  • @missblaze - yeah that's what I heard, too. Hoping there's not too much damage when we get up in the morning. This is the one thing I dislike about mature lots! Usually I love all of our trees but we have so many and some are pretty close to the house and it makes me anxious.
  • Thinking of all of you that are facing the storm. Stay safe! ❤
