  • Omfg, @mountain_girl! I was crying for you... and then I was crying for you. I'm so glad all is well. Holy crap on a cracker, I can't even begin to imagine.
  • @senora76, I missed your post earlier. Woohoo!!!!!! And congratulations on your first GIRL!!!
  • @senora76 Congrats on the results! Great news!
  • Had an appt today. Baby was happily wiggling around in there making it a challenge to get a steady Doppler reading, but we got it! Did some labs as requested by my endo, so far only hemoglobin is back which was normal so all my light headed feelings are likely just part of pregnancy. Intended on getting my flu shot but unfortunately I had a slight fever thanks to the back to school cold I picked up. Better luck next time.
  • @mountain_girl pancakes are my go-to as well!  good for you for switching midwifes... !

@chasingroygbiv I was so lightheaded and felt like passing out in my prior pregnancies, especially my first one... I couldn't figure out what it was, until the very end when I was doing a non stress test, and had an episode, and they caught it on the bp monitor... My BP was normally very low, but it would have these dips that made me feel faint... I know its super normal (in the old soap operas, a woman would faint and turn out to be pregnant...)  Hope you feel better soon :)

I cannot believe I got those results today...still in shock!

  • @mountain_girl omg. That's crazy and I'm so glad she was wrong. Wow.

@senora76 Congratulations! I'm so happy for you!
  • @mountain_girl OMG thank God your LO is okay!! What a rollercoaster for sure!

@senora76 congratulations on your great NIPT test results and your baby girl!!!

@chasingroygbiv glad you had a great appt! I recall having lightheadedness with my DS - it seems pretty common!
  • @senora76, I should've mentioned this earlier. You might want to go back to your post about your NIPT results and remove your name from it. You can never be too careful about creepers on the internet. Obviously it's your choice if you do or not. But just wanted to point it out if you didn't realize you'd posted it :)
  • @senora76  Baby Girl!!!!

@chasingroygbiv  So glad your appointment went well.

@mountain_girl  I've never been to a midwife before and am really ignorant on what they do.  Do you mind me asking how she made that drastic mistake?  Was it by doppler? Was she drunk?  Just wondering.  Again - so so so happy for you.  I told DH last night about your day and his eyes were as wide as saucers!!

  • @SP128 I laughed out loud at your comment about her being drunk!

Midwife's are super similar to physicians in terms of what they do at appointments, this was actually our initial appointment with her (and last!). She went through how it all works, blah blah, then said ok let's check out baby, tried the Doppler for literally 30 seconds, then said okay let's try our ultrasound machine, used that for maybe a minute, pointed out a blob and said I think that's your baby but there's no movement at all and I don't see a heartbeat. She seemed a bit shocked, like this hasn't happened to her before, so she wasn't comforting at all...cue freak out mode, I was like ok we are going to the ER, had my DD and DH with me, so peaced out of there, drove DD to daycare, then proceeded to bawl in the car, why me why me, this isn't fair, you know...typical reaction to thinking you lost your baby.

Drove 35 minutes to a hospital with my DH, was calm at the ER, they were so quick, in and out in 30 minutes. Doctor said ok so the midwife couldn't hear the heartbeat? I said no, she tried on an ultrasound and Doppler...doctor looked confused and said they had an ultrasound machine that's weird...said let's take a look, within seconds see a moving wriggling baby...she's like, um, I see a moving baby...I was like 'and the heartbeat looks good?' ... she smiled and said well it can't be moving without a heartbeat. I saw the baby, cried happy years, she got a Doppler to check heart rate (in the 150's) and said ok you're good to go!

I think what happened was baby was super active and only 13 weeks, tiny, so it even took the doctor over a minute to find the heartbeat...the midwife should have been more patient with the Doppler. I then think the ultrasound machine the midwife was using was not good enough and that the midwife didn't have good enough training to use it. The doctor even said, yeah, we spend a lot of time training to use these machines and ours are over $6000, not sure what training the midwife reviewed or how good their machine is.

I am now on the hunt for a new midwife or doctor...I still think midwifes are probably great, this experience hasn't turned me off of them, I'm just a bit wary now so I will make damn sure I get good recommendations before I have an experience like that again!
  • @mountain_girl, that's terrible that she tried for less than a minute and jumped to such a drastic conclusion. It's pretty common knowledge in the medical profession when using dopplers, that 13w may be early still to find baby on the doppler right away. She definitely should have had patience and reassured you a little bit. Luckily, I have never run into this issue with a midwife. And I asked why they didn't have ultrasound machines, and she answered with "truthfully, we don't have the extensive training it takes to read an ultrasound. And any machine that we could use bedside would cost $10 000, and we still don't have the training that we need to use it as a tool"
  • @mountain_girl that is a crazy story- thank u so much for sharing... I told Jose what happened with u and he wanted all the details... I never was offered a midwife option with my older sons, and with my pregnancy last year I was only offered a midwife during the birth... so was unsure how they operate.  I managed to have fairly crunchy granola births, especially for a hospital setting... Hopefully, you can find another midwife you are comfortable with, but if you end up going with an ob, you really can still have a magnificent natural labor and birth, even in a hospital with an ob delivery :)

Still can't sleep past about 5:30 am... never had this with my other pregnancies... this is the first pregnancy i have not bled, and i have no sex deive, my skin is looking terrible amd my hair is still falling out from the hormonal shifts after having Mars... I look terrible... I think there is some truth to that old wives tale where girls steal your looks... !

  • I don't know if it's this way everywhere, but around here midwives will not see you if you're at all classified high risk, which I am, so that has never been an option for me. I've always thought it would be neat, but @mountain_girl experience makes me leary (I know it can happen with any type of provider, but, worrier over here). Ugh!
  • @justkeeptrying I lurked the baby names board about a baby name app - what is the app?

  • @senora76, I'm with you waking up way too early this week!  Waking up super early (between 3am and 6am), wide awake, has been one of my earliest pregnancy symptoms both pregnancies, and seems to come back towards the end of the first trimester for me.  I kind of enjoy it, as in normal life I am very much not a morning person... except getting less than 5 hours of sleep isn't going to help with the exhaustion!

Anyone else struggling with appointment anxiety this week?  I have no reason to expect sad news at my appointment tomorrow, but it seems all I can feel is anxiety as it approaches.  How nice it must be to look forward to ultrasounds... maybe one day.
  • @eller-2 I think I'm going to be perpetually anxious until I can feel the baby move...  Actually I'm lying... I know that will bring me comfort... but who am I kidding...? Based on the type of loss we have suffered, I am particularly paranoid and neurotic and don't think I will ever stop these paranoid thoughts.  Even with my older children. It is very sad because I have always prided myself on celebrating my children's independence - and I've been completely destroyed. Mars had the very best of me, and I worry raising this new child in the new world I live in, that has no natural order, I might stifle her independence and be overbearing and over protective...

I cant wait to feel movement tho - I really feel that will help me relax...  I felt my second son very early at 13 weeks...and I can't for the life of me remember when I first felt Mars...  I know it wasn't that early, but I wish I remember when... Only 11 1/2 weeks now - so I know its going to be another couple weeks at least...

  • @senora76, I suspect the anxiety and tendency to want to overprotect will be balanced by a deep love and appreciation for your baby and your other kids, and constant counting of your blessings, that your kids will always feel.  And, honestly, many kids have overprotective parents and turn out great :)

I hope you feel movement sooner rather than later!  Actually, hoping that for all of us!
  • @eller-2
amen to that! I'm 14 weeks tomorrow and as a FTM I know it will probably be a while before I feel baby.... but it can't come soon enough!
  • @bb3vj3n Could feel movement any time, really, BUT do NOT panic if not, it's still early!! I felt my first mid 13-14 weeks. DD 14 weeks. This time around not until 16 weeks though.
  • My cousin didn't feel movement with her son until 20 weeks. It definitely varies!
  • @chasingroygbiv I really hope it's soon! Sometimes I think I feel just the tiniest little flutters.... but it's really hard to say if it's baby or just my digestive system.  I'm waiting for something that is slightly more distinguishable before I say for sure that I can feel anything.

For what it's worth, I have a nurse-midwife and she's totally competent. Just like seeing a doctor. But, she's in a large practice with an ultrasound tech. So a pro performs the ultrasound and then they read/interpret together and the nurse midwife talks to me about results.

I am starting to get the pre-appointment nerves. I go in on Thursday. Everything seems to be fine, but I am hoping for some major reassurance. I've had random pains (I think some of it might just be gastric) that make me paranoid, but nothing lasting and no spotting. So I keep telling myself it's fine. Kinda nervous also because we've started telling people. Blah pgal brain!

Edit because I meant to say I'm so glad to hear everyone's happy news. :)

  • @fatstagnation, telling people and pending appointments are my biggest pregnancy anxiety triggers!  I hope you can distract yourself for the next couple of days...
  • You guys. I know you might side eye me right now. 12+1, 4th pregnancy and I SWEAR I feel something!!!! It's not full out flutters, it's like a sporadic twinge/flutter every once in a while. I ignored it for a couple of days, but this afternoon it's been picking up more and more. Is this possibly movement already???? I've always felt like I'm super in tune with my body, but this seems early.

Also, @eller-2, I don't have appointment anxiety this week, but I definitely did last week!! I'm sure next week when I have my NT scan, I'll be a wreck again. Usually 3-4 days before my appointments I start panicking that this is when it will go downhill. What day is yours? I'll be thinking of you!
  • @fatstagnation I too am having random pains I did not have in my other pregnancies... i have weird sharp pains...on the right side, but sometimes on the left side and sometimes in the middle - right where the pregnancy is.  It is not round ligament pains - I get those too but those are very distinguishable and I've had that in all my pregnancies...  the new pains are making me paranoid too - but everytime I feel one I use the doppler... which I totally agree someone like me should NOT own lol... I'm obsessed with it - and mine is the crappiest one that is sooo hard for me to find the heartbeat. I spend like 20 min hunting... and often times the heart beat is drowned out by my own....

@justkeeptrying I think it could be movement... I know I felt clear knocks with my second son in my 13th week. I've never felt flutters with any of my kids - its always a knock from the inside... I wish I remember for the life of me when I felt Mars... His pregnancy was unique tho because although it was my 3rd pregnancy, it was after over a decade, so it seemed like a 1st pregnancy all over again.

Just starting to get heartburn... I don't have heartburn on the regular, only when I am pregnant, and I get it sooooo bad.

  • Thanks, @justkeeptrying!  My appointment is mid-day tomorrow... so close to having more (hopefully good) information.

You all are making me want to sit silently for a bit and see if I feel any flutters!  I didn't realize baby could be felt quite so early (for some lucky few).
