PGAL Check In (Week of Sept. 6)

I'm starting a new one so that we can consistently (hopefully) have these on Wednesdays (as discussed in last weeks).

This is a safe space for those who are pregnant after a loss. General TW for this thread.

How far along are you?

Any appointments coming up?

How are you doing? (Dear diary posts and venting are welcome and encouraged here)

  • @senora76 geez anxiety is just the worst. It starts with one small doubt and then snowballs so I totally relate to your post. Just remember love always multiplies and never divides so I'm sure this LO will be very much loved with all of you. <3
  • @mdfarmchick differing due dates here too - its annoying but I'm sticking with the one I know is right.. We were TTCing like crazy people so i know when that OPK was positive!!! plus early betas!  Welcome back!

@fatstagnation Insurance sucks... I am on a kaiser HMO now but before I was I had a high deductible PPO and ended up negotiating cash rates for everything... Get the care you need and negotiate price later if you have to- Its such a mess- I'm sorry- I remember what a pain it was.

@justkeeptrying you are right its because I really dont know... I have bonded instantly and easily with all three of my sons.  I just wish the same for this little one too. :)

  • Thanks @justkeeptrying, @senora76. I did miss you guys. Sometimes it just feels overwhelming. <3

@justkeeptrying seriously?! 5?! :flushed: When did you end up having your LO?? That would drive me insane.

@senora76 this is totally ridiculous so I hope you will laugh with me but I babysat my friend's 6 month old and then again when she was 9 months and I hated diaper changes! She's more rolly than MS ever was so I know that's a factor but I was like, there's way too many folds down here. Haha. I've gotten used to boy parts.

@fatstagnation I spent 5 days on the phone with the insurance, the doctor's office and the NIPT test people trying to figure out the charges for the stupid test so I'm super sorry you are dealing with this. I wish that our insurance coverages were more transparent to the patients. And I just think that when the US are a medical necessity, dating/NT/Anatomy they should just be covered. Prenatal and postnatal care sucks in this country. Hopefully you get some straight answers soon. Did your doctor's office give you the CT codes so your insurance can tell you if it is covered? That ended up being what I needed to figure out the NIPT. GL
  • @chasingroygbiv I want you to be feeling this LO so bad! How are you feeling this week? Are the MS/constipation/gas/headaches any better? I hope your Friday appointment goes well and you get some answers on your iron levels. <3
  • @pettycrocker the whole situation in FL just scares me. I'm tired of hurricane season already. I hope they are all safe. ((Hugs))

@pettycrocker I'm wishing your family safety and surprise money. :) Also "a thousand years maybe" made me laugh, so thanks!

Yep US insurance system sucks. It's for profit socialized medicine - the worst of both worlds. I got the billing code for NIPT directly from the lab. It's out of network even though I'm ama. I'm gonna start with "What exactly do you cover for prenatal care?" and then go into specifics. I guess getting the code for the NT scan is a good idea. Way to take the "natural miracle joy" out of it, insurance!

Re due date - I also am not sure of my date. When we got that first ultrasound baby measured 5 days younger, which I have longer cycles so that makes sense. But midwife said we'd stick with the date based on last missed period. She said a due date is plus or minus two weeks anyway. So, I hope baby comes in March, but it's not for sure. Interesting to hear what your past experiences are.

Edit - agreed - so very emotional this week!

  • @mdfarmchick You are sweet, thank you! Nausea and exhaustion is improving— until a headache kicks in. I had a few days without one and wound up with one today, I think it's because I slept crummy, I can tell it's coming from my neck. Constipation and gas is still going strong unfortunately! I'm not banking on my constipation improving because I don't want to disappoint myself since it didn't get better with my other 2!

Thank you, I will definitely post iron results if he goes ahead and orders them (which I'm thinking he will since I'm still feeling off).
  • @mdfarmchick Love your comment - I so get it -  I have been a mom for 14 years, and have never changed a baby girl diaper in my life... I guess it didn't even occur to me that the poopy diapers would be so messy!!!  All of my friends have all boys, the kids I babysat as a kid were all boys... and I have one nephew, I'm completely ill prepared for girl parts!

@justkeeptrying I always wondered about my 2nd's due date...  He was born 5 weeks early at 6lbs14oz and 20 in... I also felt him move at 11 weeks... which I thought was impossible until I had him... I had cholestasis so thats which can cause pre term labor - but I've always been suspicious...  Also its been over a decade and my mind is pretty foggy about the details...

@pettycrocker Good luck at your NT!  I hope your family is okay in Florida and I wish them safety and some kind of financial help...  Hope the storms pass quickly.

@fatstagnation My husband was shocked when I fell pregnant with Mars on the high deductable PPO - he has social benefits in Spain and if we had the baby there everything is free. We found out the pregnancy would cost us 11,000 out of pocket, and thinking quick, I made him my domestic partner so I could change my benefits through work to go with Kaiser- not a whole lot of flexibility with providers but so far we have had wonderful care... and all prenatal care is free... birth is $250 co pay... and they are covering all of Mars' post mortem genetic testing for a $20 copay... its been well worth it and Jose says aside from the small copays (which really are nothing compared to PPO) its just like Spain...where you go to one facility for everything (hospital, pharmacy, drs, labs).

@bb3vj3n Congrats on making it to the 2nd trimester - wishing you patience and calm as your test results come in...having trouble exercising too - i can do some squats but certainly no running like my last pregnancies... I just feel like laying down when I get home from work....

@chasingroygbiv I hope you feel some good kicks soon!  I had an anterior placenta with my first and didnt feel regular movements until 20 weeks....  it was a bummer - but it didn't impact the pregnancy...

  • @bb3vj3n omg. I want to just go for a walk so bad but even a hint of heat and I'm back to resting. Le sigh.

@SoraLk I'm glad you are feeling better and that's so great that you found the heartbeat on the Doppler. <3
  • @mdfarmchick, my original due date with DS was May 13. That was the date I stuck with since it was based on LMP and it lined up with the one and only time we had unprotected sex that month. Then at an early US, they dates him 5 days behind, putting me at May 18. My OB said it should've been May 16 though (still unclear why). Then at my 20 week scan, the tech said he was ahead and new due date should be May 2. But the report that was sent to my OB said May 20.

It was was so CONFUSING. He ended up coming May 20. I stuck to my original due date of May 13. Which means he was exactly 1 week late (which is average for FTM).

@bb3vj3n, WOOHOO for second trimester!!!!!!!!! I can't wait to join you!!!!
  • I really want to reply to everyone's post but first have a quick question. I'm over 12 weeks, had an Ultrasound at 11 weeks and everything looked great. The last two days I've had diarrhea and wiped a very small amount of blood twice. No other symptoms, no cramping, etc., but I'm freaking out. For those of you ladies who miscarried after 12 weeks, were there any signs? Warnings? I understand this is a sensitive topic so appreciate if you don't want to share your story..,just feeling nervous as I really thought I was in the clear, started telling friends, told 2 ppl at work...this is making me want to wait until March to tell !

Ps @chasingroygbiv how the heck are you 16 weeks and able to hide the fact that you're pregnant? Kudos, I am busting out of my clothes right now, people are going to be able to tell so soon and I'm only 12 weeks...
  • @mountain_girl, I miscarried at 15 weeks in April. I had no signs ahead of time. I had really bad cramps on the Saturday but told myself to relax. That night I had a hard time sleeping because my cramps kept waking me up. By 2am I was bleeding, not a ton, but enough that it was more than little streaks I'd had in the past. The cramps were VERY strong at that point. I miscarried around 10:30 that morning.

If you're worried, I would call your OB. Just tell them of your concerns and ask if there's anything you can do for some reassurance. Hopefully they're kind and tell you to come in for a quick peek/listen on the Doppler.

But please also know that it's really common to bleed in pregnancy. Especially if it's a small amount and not accompanied by cramps. You mentioned diarrhea. TMI? But could the bleeding have been coming from your bum? Maybe from straining at some point?

I hope this helps. Fingers crossed everything is okay. Keep us posted please.
  • @justkeeptrying thx so much for your response, your experience sounds awful...at 15 weeks you would think all is good?!?! I mentioned the diarrhea because dr google said it's a sign of miscarriage later on in pregnancy...blood definitely didn't come from that...it was a very small amount and I bled with my DD twice at around 10 weeks as well...so hoping it's nothing....right when I get excited something like this happens...this is hard  :/
  • @mountain_girl
if I were you (and I am not trying to scare you)...i would go to the ER and get checked out immediately. With my loss there was just a single drop of blood... so little that they almost sent  me home but i was insistant in an US.

it's most likely nothing to worry about.... but I say better safe than sorry. i ended up on the wrong side of luck and I am to this day certain that if it happens again - I would go straight to the hospital again for an immediate check up.... the regular doctors take too long.

personal question - what colour was the blood? brownish, pink or red?

  • @mountain_girl, thank you. Yes. We definitely thought we were in the clear. We had public announced that week on Facebook. We found out though testing that our baby had Gastroschisis (meaning his stomach lining hadn't fully closed and his organs were beginning to grow on the outside of his body).

The beautiful thing about my miscarriage was that I had an absolutely amazing nurse. She offered to clean up our baby after, and gave us as long as we wanted to be with him. There is nothing as remarkable as holding a 15 week gestation baby in the palm of your hand. My boy was beautiful. I'll never forget him.

I agree with @bb3vj3n. Having been through what I have, I would go to ER if you can't get in with your OB. Because the not knowing and waiting would drive me nuts. Thinking of you!
  • @mountain_girl I'd say the blood may be an irritation or hemorrhoid if it came from the back...one time in my last pregnancy i had a gush of blood when i was really constipated, but that came from the front... it turned out to be nothing... You need reassurance in any case... call your OB and if you cant get in there go to the ER...  keep us posted!

  • @mountain_girl, I'll also add that I don't remember an increase in diarrhea with either of my miscarriages. I've had TONS of diarrhea this pregnancy. So I really hope that's not a sign of something.
  • @bb3vj3n no worries about scaring me, I realize that throughout pregnancy, there is nothing you can do in these cases...i would say it was pink yesterday, today brown, literally one spot each time. With my DD, I had bright red blood, not a lot, but enough that I freaked and went to the ER and after 3 hours confirmed everything was great, so I'm hoping I'm just a bleeder during pregnancy?? I have a midwife appt on Friday so unless I experience more blood or other signs, I'll wait till then...like I said, there is nothing to be done at this point anyways, but I'm staying hopeful that everything is okay.

@justkeeptrying thx so much for sharing your personal story, how awful and beautiful...you are one strong woman!

@senora76 thx for the input! God, so much TMI stuff in pregnancy!!!
    l
  • @mountain_girl, I really hope everything is alright. Rest and relax as much as possible until your appointment. Easier said than done...I know. But with all the bleeding I'm having, the 2 OB's and my midwife said pink, brown, wine coloured blood are all ok colours. Bright red blood is what they were worried about.

How far along are you? 14.6

Any appointments coming up? I had my 2 week follow-up appointment today. I saw the other Dr. in my practice. He spend a good 5 minutes trying to find the heartbeat on the doppler. Like my last appointment, no success. Baby must be in a weird position. We moved to the ultrasound room and saw our LO moving on the screen. This ordeal scared the crap out of us again.

How are you doing? I am doing okay. Even though I saw our LO wiggle on the screen I am still feeling uneasy. Hopefully the anatomy scan in a month will put my mind to ease. I just want to hear the heartbeat.

GTKY: How long have you and your SO been together? We dated for a few years in high school then broke up. Reconnected 4 years later but were in other relationships so we remained friends. Got back together in 2009, engaged a year later now married for six years.

How are you doing? (Dear diary posts and venting are welcome and encouraged here)
Was doing okay tryna manage ms and fatigue. I've been able to eat more things and even LEFTOVERS. (I was the leftover queen before pregnancy when I did not want to even think about what I ate the day before. My brother has LOVED getting all of leftover takeout.) Got back on the boards today (work and sleepy generally take up my time) and the loss I read about totally triggered me. I was thinking "I've been to relaxed about this, anything could happen!" And I had been so glad not to see any of those kinds of post...So, now, I'm just relaxing before bed and hoping some tv will take my mind off everything.

We have been committed romantic friends (for 2 years) and committed co-parents of this lil Sugah Lump (for 11 weeks). I'll think about a relationship after the baby is born!

I get extremely anxious right before all of my appointments also. Worst case senerio always goes through my head. Will this ever get any easier?

  • @mommytron, I really hope it improves. I'm hoping after that anatomy scan I'll feel more confident. Only 8.5 weeks to go!
  • @mountain_girl Hope it is nothing. I know brown is usually old blood and not a cause for alarm. If you've DTD recently it is possible your cervix be a bit irritated and cause spotting. But I agree that if you're worried, call your OB. Hopefully they can get you in to check.

  • @mountain_girl I'm happy to hear that three blood was pink/brown. I'm no expert but I I know that's a good sign

for me, that one drop of blood was crimson fresh blood .... and that makes a big difference.

you'll be in my thoughts this week.  update us after your appointment so we now all is well.
    xo
  • @mountain_girl I'm sorry, I may have missed, but are you sure the blood isn't irritation from having diarrhea? I've wiped a couple times now and thanks to constipation and hemorrhoids, I've had some bleeding. With my latest loss (10 weeks) or any of them, I didn't have diarrhea. I've never heard of that. Check it out, but hang in there!

Also, I'm hiding it with baggy shirts, sucking in what I can, and avoiding as many people that would pay enough attention the best I can. A friend who also was my delivery nurse with DD was staring at my stomach today though.. pretty sure she can tell. Oh well. I figure if anyone asks at this point I will tell, but ask that they respect our privacy and not share as we are keeping it quiet for at least another 2 weeks. Hopefully since it's not their business AND majority know I'm a loss Mom, they'll respect that.
  • @kalawa why so much bleeding in your pregnancy this time?! How unnerving!
@mommytron why is your baby hiding from you?! How frustrating and scary...I'm guessing baby will be an introvert and maybe shy!  ;)
@ishmoney love your definition of committed romantic partners, thx for the positive thoughts my way!
@becausescience yes stay hopeful! And we did DTD 5 days ago, so I didn't think that was close enough to be the cause of the bleeding...
@chasingroygbiv the couple friends I've told at work told me they suspected because my boobs were bigger...so I'm sure other people suspect or are just wondering why I've gotten fatter! ...this stage of in between is so tough for clothing...maternity clothes don't work but only some of my clothes fit right now = very limited wardrobe!

  • Whats totally annoying is im the last one due in this group and I fit the maternity pants I just got already with the full panel...I'm not even 11 weeks and my baby is a strawberry!?! I'm still hiding out in big baggy hippie dresses for a few more weeks...

@kalawa I had an SCH in my last pregnancy- I think I mentioned that before- I had a ridicuous amount of bright red bleeding... and then for weeks it ended up being brown like coffee grounds... it was unnerving and gross... I'm sorry you are dealing with it.

Hey.. Another TMI- all my other pregnancies I've been super horny... but this one it's like I have 0 interest. My man is super sexy and he's super understanding... I miss the crazy sex life but I'm still super lazy about it... I feel inhuman!!!
