@jsnakehole I'm going into my second week and I still don't feel prepared. Well my math classes in good for, but I'm teaching gardening to 3 students this fall with out any resources as we weren't told we were teaching these courses until after budget season. So I'm really just winging that course.
@jrm_14, I didn't end up making it until today. I have been trying to make it for weeks but keep forgetting I am out of one ingredient or another. And today when I checked the garden I realized I have an insane amount of zucchini so I will probably bake and freeze a few more loaves.
As to my sheep story, at the petting zoo part of the zoo we went, you went into an open pasture area with probably 15 sheep, maybe 5 goats and a few other animals. It was super muddy (and I was of course in sandals) so when we walked through the gate, about 5 sheep suddenly surrounded me, because I was holding the food containers. They kept jumping up on my to try and get food, which had me covered in mud. One was really aggressive and kept shoving into the back of me, and he eventually rammed the back of my leg and gave me a huge bruise.
@pumpkinpancake, that sounds like a ton of work, but really yummy! I love plums, we used to have a tree but it got some sort of disease.
Can I complain for a moment? Usually this kind of thing doesn't get to me, but for some reason it's really stuck with me and is bugging the isht out of me. Rant in spoiler below. TL;DR: some girl today insisted all women get pregnant immediately after having their IUDs removed, and the conversation continues to bother me.
We went to our friends' rooftop BBQ today, and when we got there our friends had gone down to their apartment, so it was just this other couple sort of reserving our group's area. The girl is getting a phd in neuroscience, so we were just sort of chatting about that and then somehow medical board exams (I guess because she overlaps so much with neurologists so has a lot of MD friends?), and she was saying how for board exams often, especially in OBGYN, the information you learn for the boards is 5-6 years behind current research, so as a resident you have to learn best practices in the hospital, but then separately what the "right" (ie, outdated) answer is on the exams. (I have no idea if this is true, but that's what she said.) So we started talking about how in general a lot of research related to women's health is woefully behind/not historically studied enough in general but at least it's getting better. All fine. But then she mentioned that there's a lot of really interesting recent research about women's health and how cool it is.... for instance, this study done in China that "proved unequivocally that all women get pregnant the first month they have their IUD out."
Um.... 1) all women don't get pregnant the first month they've never even had anything preventing at all whatsoever, so no. 2) Uh... Are you telling me there was a study of a bunch of women who had IUDs, got them removed, and they ALL got pregnant that first month? I don't buy it.
I gently pushed back, but she was SO ADAMANT! This was really the first time that I've felt really frustrated that none of our friends, or our friends' friends are even close to thinking about getting pregnant let alone actively trying.... they just don't get it.
I tried to find the study when I got home, and I found some similar ones that basically just say that IUDs don't causeinfertility, which, um, I would hope would be the case once it's gone through clinical trials and is on the market.
@Holly321. Glad you are okay from the sheep! I made chocolate zuchinni miffins today because it sounded good! I used whole wheat flour &threw in cinnamon chips. Holy yum! MH even are one.
@doxiemoxie212. Oh, dear, that sounds super frustrating. I can see how that would have put a damper on the rest of the evening. More so, I cannot imagine the feelings of lonliness, isolation, frustration, etc, that converation could have elicited. It makes me nervous health industry professionals have such misinformation about women's health. At least, it concerns me she cannot read and analyze a study for validity and generalization. Sorry you had that happen. ((hugs))
@jrm_14 thanks friend. Yeah, I mean, I don't feel offended or anything... it's literally just this lingering frustration I can't shake. Like, the willful ignorance of very smart people lol.
@doxiemoxie212. Hopefully you get a good nights rest & tomorrow brings a fresh mind. Depending on my mood, if I were in your place, I would have likely said something snatch-y, like "Cool, I'll go book an appointment to get one tomorrow so I can get it out next cycle and get KTFU pronto" but I'm not always the most polite when people say things that don't sit well with me do you have to see this person regularly? Book smart vs life smart is one thing. Book smart & wilfull ignorance is another whole area!
We have a plum tree in our backyard that is all ripe now, so we have an abundance of plums to do stuff with. So far I've made two plum cakes and 16 jars of jam, with more cake and jam to be made later. My kitchen has been in a constant state of chaos this weekend, but it's so worth it
I love growing fruits/veggies! I have a couple tomato and sweet pepper plants that are producing uncontrollably (there are small fruits all over each plant). No idea what I'm gonna do with it all but I'll figure it out. I have a pear tree and a pair of persimmon trees. The persimmon trees are still seedlings and won't produce fruit for a while. Makes me feel good being able to grow food. I'd love to get some chickens sometime for the eggs.
@doxiemoxie212 How frustrating!!! That story makes me wonder how far she'll make it in her PhD if she can't comprehend that nothing can be 100%. I usually try to give people the benefit of a doubt but I just can't find anything in her case. I wish I had been there to tell her I'm living proof that it's not true and see how she would have responded! Hopefully you don't have to run into her again. But you should be prepared with some studies to spout off just in case.
@doxiemoxie212 I would have been extremely frustrated by that conversation too. Good on you for keeping your cool though. I think I would have been right there with the snippy remarks as well. If you need to hit her statistics next time, you can add me to the list. Still trying over here.......
@doxiemoxie212, you're a better person than I am. I would have asked to see the studies and then when she said she couldn't remember, I'd have asked for her contact info to get it at a later date. I mean, that's a ridiculous thing to believe and an even more ridiculous thing to tell others who may believe you. False facts like that make it even harder when ttc. You really start thinking something is wrong because "studies" say you should get ku the first month.
