  • @lalala2004  When L was having issues STTN we tried having a sippy filled up, and in his bed with him. It took 2 days, then he went hunting for the sippy and soothed himself back to sleep. Maybe something to try.

What number are you trying for? 3

    Cycle/Month? 1/1

    WTO/TWW? WTO

    Ages of other child(ren)?  L is 2y, E is 9 months

Any thoughts about this cycle? Fertile week is going to be right around when my volleyball team has games EVERY night. This might be a heck of a sleep deprived cycle.

Any questions? I had one, but I forgot it.

GTKY: What food do you like that your SO does not like? We really like the same food, both kinda lame meat&potatoes stuff. I guess unless KU I can't do black pepper, and he puts it on everything.

    Any thoughts about this cycle?
Just wishing my body would get its act together and ovulate already. Last cycle was 96 days long and it only ended because I took Provera. I can handle BFNs but this anovulation business is rather frustrating. Four months isn't that long in the grand scheme but when my body isn't cooperating it feels like a long time.

  • @princesslockness he sleeps in bed with me, which is a whole other issue that will need to be solved eventually (and definitely doesn't help with TTC sex) but offering water is definitely something I will try. I tried night weaning around 13 months and ended up with mastitis, so that's another reason why I'm nervous....

  • lalala2004  RE night weaning: FWIW my DS slept much better after I night weaned (around 13 mos). It made me wish I'd done it sooner. The way I did it is I brought him into bed with us when he first woke and offered water and lots of cuddles every time he woke up. He fussed a lot the first night, and then less the next and then completely stopped wanting it. After that we continued to nurse last thing at night and first thing in the morning, but only for about a month more.

fwtx5815 So sorry for the extra long cycles. Hopefully your body gets the memo and starts to cooperate!

  • @lalala2004, getting them to sttn is the worst. Bfing didn't work for us unfortunately, but this is now of the reasons why I'm glad it didn't work. Our children currently use pacis and we plan to wean them this weekend since it's a  day weekend. I'm already dreading it.

@offtoneverland, I am TERRIFIED of the 3s!!! I just know it'll be worse than anything we can imagine.

@MrsBunz, DH hates vegetables and I didn't have a great relationship with them when I was a kid either. I have been trying to keep our twins interested and liking them, but it's so difficult when he won't eat some himself or makes a face when they take bites.

What number are you trying for? 3

Cycle/Month? Unknown - we haven't been preventing for months, but haven't been trying too hard since we have unexplained IF and I didn't want a lot of stress or pressure whole we waited out our appt.

WTO/TWW? Right now, I think we're in the TWW, but I have wonky cycles and didn't want extra stress of charting or anything.

Ages of other child(ren)? Twin 21 month olds

Any thoughts about this cycle? We had a lot of fun trying this cycle. It may be one of the last times we can do that before I have to be pumped full of meds.

Any questions? Did anyone else paci wean? Others have given us advice, but most of their children were older and could understand that they used their pacis to "buy" a new toy or that all of their pacis were "broken". Our plan for now is to just bite the bullet and deal with bad naps and overnights. If it's an utter failure and they aren't better by day 3 at all, then we may cave and do it again in a few months.

GTKY: What food do you like that your SO does not like? Casseroles of any kind. Which really sticks because it'd be really nice to just throw a bunch of stuff into a crock pot in the morning and call it dinner, but he won't eat it. And it really stinks because, admittedly so, my mother is not a good cook. At all. And her casserole is one of 2 dishes of hers that I actually love and would like to feed my kids. Whenever I make it, DH eats something else and I give my mom most of the leftovers.
  • @suchaglencoco I've heard of people going to build a bear and putting the paci inside a bear. At their age, I think they would be able to understand where the paci is if they put it in the bear. Then they still technically have it, but the bear replaces it. Not cheap, though!

  • @suchaglencoco We weaned my daughter off her paci 2 months ago. It went a lot smoother than we expected, so I'm not sure if this advice will be helpful or not. She's had her paci since she was just a few days old and has been obsessed with it since the beginning. When she turned 2, day care took her paci away at nap time and we followed suit, so she only had it at bedtime at home. Every night she would beg for it and grab it right away. She even liked to have 2 pacis in her crib at all times!
In July, we went to the beach overnight and stayed at a hotel. We decided to leave the paci at home and see what happened. We completely tired her out at the beach and stayed up way past her bedtime, so by the time we got to the hotel, we stuck her in bed and she fell right to sleep without asking for it. We didn't say anything about it to her. Since that day, she hasn't asked for it once! It totally took us by surprise. I think it helped that we didn't talk about it at all, we just did it. It also probably helped that she was really exhausted. So, maybe you could try doing something super fun with your kids to tire them out, and maybe keep them up late so they're really sleepy. Then put them to bed and see what happens. Alternatively, you could try just getting rid of it at nap times for now? I'm not sure if that would make things better or worse....
However, if it doesn't go well, it's really not a big deal for them to have pacis still at their age. I think our pediatric dentist said to try to get rid of them by age 3. Not that you shouldn't try to get rid of them yet, but just giving some peace of mind in case it goes horribly. :)
I think the newfound indepence that comes with age 3 outweighs the temper tantrums and bad behavior. So all in all, the 3s haven't been too bad (yet, at least...since she just turned 3 two weeks ago)! I probably just jinxed myself...

  • Thanks @offtoneverland & @mrsinterweb

On pacis- my son lost interest when we switched to the 6mo+ size when he was around that age (avent soothies, he preferred the NB stage to the bigger ones), and then went to thumb sucking. Not looking forward to breaking that habit when the time comes. But if you haven't already moved up to the correct paci size, that might be worth a shot if they make different sizes for the kind you have?

  • @lalala2004, DD is nuts. I think she'd chew the stitches off to get to it!!! Hahaha.

@fwtx5815, I am super anal about keeping them with proper cups and pacis for their age. I needed braces as a kid for buck teeth from finger sucking so I want to avoid that as much as possible since braces are so expensive!  I know I may not be able to prevent it all the way, but I'm trying my hardest. Thank you for your suggestion. I told my mom I'm glad they liked pacis over their thumbs because these are much easier to take away.

@offtoneverland  I was so excited for your approach until I saw your update! I'm sorry I jinxed it!! We will definitely run them tired. Did you keep her up past regular bedtime or just put her down exhausted?
My sil said they read it takes 3 nights to break them of it and it worked for her daughter. DH decided then that we would do it Labor Day weekend to try and get it over with. We're kind of over dealing with them. Some nights DD will wake up screaming because she can't find her paci, even if there's another in the crib. It's now been made worse since we moved her into a toddler bed because she kept climbing put if her crib. So she wanders out screaming sometimes.
We're basically ready for 3 nights of pure heck. I am hoping DS is easy because he's not as dependant as DD on it.
  • What number are you trying for? 3

    Cycle/Month? 2/1

WTO/TWW? I think the TWW...my cycle is a bit wonky

Ages of other child(ren)? 7 years, and 15 months

Any thoughts about this cycle? I kind of wish it would end already so I can get a fresh start. My cycles are typically anovulatory, so though i'm happy I O'd, or at least I think so based on temps, I'm ready to just be done with it.

    Any questions? Nah

GTKY: What food do you like that your SO does not like? Raw veggies. He never prefers vegetables, but he has an even greater hate for them if they're raw

On the paci discussion, I just flat took it away once it felt like it was time to night wean. We did sleep training with both girls at about 13 months, and just took the pacis at the same time. I think the crying/waking only lasted a few days, and then they were over it.

@offtoneverland Hey there! Fellow AF veteran here! What did you do in the AF?
Siggy Challenge - Summer Movie Scenes

  • I really need to get rid of DS's paci. We are going to night wean soon, so I think that I will follow @josie12367 's lead and just take it away at the same time.
  • @sarawifenow I've always had a "rip the bandaid off" approach...I've learned to be more gentle now that I have children and take their feelings into consideration, but with pacis...I pulled a bandaid move. I think in conjunction with night weaning, it's the easiest method.
Siggy Challenge - Summer Movie Scenes

  • @josie12367 I hope so! I think we may try it over the long weekend. Wish me luck!
  • @josie12367 I think the rip the band-aid off approach works so much better with kids. Our day care got rid of bottles and pacis cold turkey when she turned one and it went so smoothly! We tried a gradual approach with bottles at home but it just made things worse. I suppose it could depend the kid, though.

@offtoneverland It is surprising how quickly these last 4 years have been, sometimes I still feel like he just commissioned (maybe it's because he has been gone for almost half of those 4 years). So while my brain tells me 16 years is a long time, I also expect it to fly by fairly quickly. I have not found shoes. DH has been on hurricane relief flights all week so I've had our tiny human pretty much solo every day, and shoe shopping is not his favorite past time. DH has the weekend off for the holiday, so I plan on sneaking away at some point to check out a few places. I have comically small feet (like no grown woman should wear my shoe size or consistently be able to shop in the kid's section), so I hate shopping online, I need to try them on first.

  • @offtoneverland  I was a medic :)

@MrsBunz  My husband has also been deployed or tdy for half of our marriage. We joke about how good we are at long distance. He's been in for almost twelve years now. Good luck on the shoe search. I wanted to go to the AF ball but he'll be tdy :/

  • What number are you trying for? 2 - . We're ntnp, mostly because we're bad at bc. So we'll 'officially' ntnp and actually try at 1y like we originally planned.

    Cycle/Month? 1

    WTO/TWW? WTO

    Ages of other child(ren)? 7m

Any thoughts about this cycle? I'm intrigued you see if I'm ovulating. I am still bfing, but my cycles have returned. So we'll see.

    Any questions? Not currently

GTKY: What food do you like that your SO does not like? Peanut butter, really any nut or seed of any kind. I love them, he hates them. That's the biggest...
  • Thanks for the paci recommendations ladies. We are definitely doing it cold turkey and plan to run them ragged the next few nights. Last night DH said to them "say goodnight to mama for the last time with a paci in your mouth" and my heart stopped for a moment. I am glad our children are happy, healthy, and growing, but man it is going way too fast.

@Mylitta when did your cycle return? Sometimes there is a "warning period" or two before ovulating, but you may be ovulating right away!

edit: Nevermind, just saw your intro post! I definitely recommend temping so you'll know how long your LP is. That's one of the biggest concerns with TTC while breastfeeding. (Assuming you have a cycle. I don't yet....)
