Sooooo I've been eating pretty badly the last few weeks and I'm trying to get back into more healthy habits.
This morning I had an egg scramble with 2 eggs, chopped up Canadian bacon, spinach, and coconut oil. I brought whole milk yogurt for snack. I also packed an organic veggie bowl from Costco. I get out of work at noon today, but I have my doula consult at 1pm. I have no idea what I'm doing for dinner. Blargh.
@jakobaby Yes! I did use a doula. Even though I ended up with a C-section, she was there at the hospital with me. She prepared me for going into surgery, and helped me with nursing afterward. She even took some pictures for us
I was visiting my parents last week. I got off the plane and went straight to a fair where I ate EVERYTHING! The week that followed with them did not get any better. Doughnuts, pizza, chicken wings, cake..the list goes on! Now that I am home I am cleaning up my eating! I am also planning out my meals for the next month. Overnight oats, fruit/veggie smoothies, egg bakes in muffin tins, salads and no sugary treats. I'm only on day two and so far is so good. Next week will be rough...but like Sia says...I've got stamina!
@missblaze I never know what to do for dinner! DH and I get in these ruts of eating the same thing every week. Hope you found something yummy to eat!
So I went through another rough patch with eating recently and haven't been eating solids for about 2 weeks. I've been managing fluids and they started me on ensure to get calories. But now I can eat solids again! Woo, but liquids are still way easier. Does anyone have any recipes for high calorie shakes that are smooth, taste good, and full of nutrients? I'd like to cut back on all the gross that is in the ensure, so much sugar!
@maueraa07 so sorry you're not quite up to par yet! I've heard of people putting riced cauliflower in smoothies for a creamy texture and nutrients. It's supposed to take on the other flavors in the drink. Maybe worth a shot!
@madcouplewithabox we interviewed 2 doulas and found one that we really clicked with. Definitely good to have an extra person. We didn't really like the first people we interviewed, they were a co-op of doulas and were wayyyy too uptight for us.
As for food, sweet Jesus I should not go to the grocery store without eating first.... EVERYTHING in the cart!
@madcouplewithabox I can't recommend a doula enough. Finding someone you feel comfortable is very important, but don't give up yet! I'm sure you'll find one that you love.
I finally got back into the swing of cooking every night now that I am in more of a routine with work. I absolutely LOVE to cook and it makes me feel good after a long day at work. Tuesday night we did Taco Bowl Tuesday...all the normal taco fixings, but with ground turkey and homemade seasonings over a bed of lettuce and Wednesday night I did baked chicken with EVOO and salt/pepper/paprika/garlic powder and a side of sauteed onions and summer squash and an additional side of spinach. I have also been packing my lunches everyday, which consist of triple zero Greek yougurt, granola and blueberries as well as light string cheese, peanut butter crackers, organic frozen meals (just because it is easy lol) and cocoa almond butter biscuits. For breakfast I have been doing egg white, turkey sausage and provolone sandwiches or a vegan Chocolate Shakeology shake with frozen strawberries and bananas. I definitely indulge still (hello margherita flatbread last night and Cinnamon Toast Crunch), but I am trying to be good! I think I have found the right kind of balance for the most part!
So, I basically suck at cooking, but I try. I'm lucky that DH is a chef (but unlucky that he works every night lol). Last night I made a stir fry with steak tips, Mann's Power Blend (it's a superfood mix with Brussels sprouts, cabbage, broccoli, carrots, kale), and a little bit of rice. For dessert DD and I shared a dessert of sliced banana, almond butter, small drizzle of local honey, and a few dark chocolate chips. Yum!
@maueraa07 I have heard of people thickening there smoothies with avocado. Through a friends reccomendation I just bought a new smoothie book. She loves it. Here is the link to the book on amazon if you are interested!
I had a craving for toaster strudels and bought not one but four boxes at the store earlier. I don't even want to think about how bad these are for you but man it hit the spot. Nom nom nom
I am in curry heaven! We had a friend over last night and got takeout from our excellent local place. Then this afternoon we went to a birthday party for one of DS's preschool friends, and the family is Indian and had a big buffet for lunch. Dinner tonight was round 1 of yesterday's leftovers, and there's at least one more left.
I just had one of these for the first time in 20 years
But we should be eating decenty healthy overall since we're at my in-laws' house this week and my MIL cooks every night. Tomorrow we're doing a day trip to Boston but otherwise it'll probably be healthier meals than I normally have which will be good.
Pancakes. Lol. Yesterday my sis and I made our own cinnastack pancakes (you know the ones from IHOP?) and this morning I made buttermilk pancakes for DH and I.
But I am trying to do better as well! Living in a camper with the small kitchen has done a number on my motivation to meal plan and cook. But I'm trying a different way of planning today so hopefully it gets better. This afternoon we'll have leftover cheesy vegetable chowder with ham and for dinner we'll have homemade crab cakes with asparagus and herbed pasta. Yum. (I'm just gonna throw this out there for reference: I'm not on the low/no fat train. Sugar is worse than fat and real food is better than anything else. So I cook with butter and bacon fat, use whole fat milk and cream, and consume grains in moderation and I'm working on my sugar cravings because they have got to go!)
@madcouplewithabox late to the party, but another vote for team doula! I can't imagine either of my births without one. It can take time to find the right fit, but so worth it!
Been eating a ton of eggs and green smoothies and pumpkin oatmeal lately. Nothing too exciting, but I'm feeling way better, I think I'd been eating too much bread.

I went to a wedding this weekend and had some of the worst wedding food I've ever eaten. It was more like what you'd have in a nursing home. I felt so bad for the couple! To make up for it I ate my weight in terrible things at Taco Bell after the reception so this week I need to get back on track. I'm going to work on eating lots of salads for my few meals out with girlfriends and lots of fruit at home. I need to up my veggie intake for sure!
Heading to the MN State Fair this weekend and I am thinking I might have to post a photo collage of everything I eat. Corn on the cob, Sweet Martha's cookies, Bowl 'O Dough. For anyone who's bored at work, I'm talking about this: https://mspmag.com/eat-and-drink/we-ate-new-foods-2017-state-fair/
@libbberty I've been to the Minnesota State Fair! It was sooo much fun. It's the only fair i've ever been to, so i don't have much to compare it with, but it was everything i thought a Midwest fair should be (with the usual stereotypical perceptions that a city dweller has ). There were corn fields, and farm animals, and a truck that served all-you-can-drink cold fresh milk. And, of course we were watching the Viking's game last night, and they were showing shots of the fair and i was sooo jealous! I think there's going to be summer family trips to Minnesota in our future to "visit DH's family" but really to go to the fair haha. I hope you have a great time!!
I've eaten a ridiculous amount of Cinnamon Toast Crunch the past two days. I haven't touched that stuff in a decade probably. Now I'm eating all of it!!

@maueraa07 I was drinking shakeology before I got pregnant and just brought a pack in to get the okay from the doc. It's pretty expensive, but I really like it. I don't know that I'll buy anymore while I'm pregnant but I'll def use up what I have! It's also a bonus when DD is sick, I'll make her a fruit snake with it to get some protein in her.
@gilsam1 I hear you! I'm from MN so I go back almost every year for the Fair - it's my birthday weekend so I can justify dragging my entire family there on my behalf. If my ILs were there, I would do the exact same strategy.
@schaze I will definitely eat all of the food! Bummed I can't have mini donut beer this year, so I'll be finding other ways to get my calories in
I'm envisioning all of us next year meeting with our 8-9 month olds at the pronto pup stand or the dairy farm! haha.
@missblaze thanks for sharing that link, looks great!
What are some healthy snacks (higher protein preferred) you all are enjoying? In my normal life I'm not a snacker, but I'm finding myself super hungry in between meals right now, and I'd love some new options. Thanks!

@gilsam1 I always forget about fiber bars, definitely will add those in to my snack rotation. The rest I'm eating, except for the hummus, my only pregnancy aversion so far! Thank you!

@KatieEl I've been eating a lot of plain Cabot Greek yogurt (the full fat kind) with berries. Also almond butter with apple slices or I'll slice up a banana and top it with almond butter, a drizzle of local honey, and a few dark chocolate chips. My favorite dessert! As I've said a million times before, I'll often toast a slice of Ezekiel bread and top it with goat cheese and tomato slices. I've also been known to fry an egg and put it on top of avocado toast. Yum.

@missblaze thanks for the dessert idea! That sounds scrumptious!

I'm sorry you're having trouble! We had protein powder (approved by doc), almond milk and fresh fruit with PB on smoothies! It's good!
I've also done some with lots of fruit, kale or spinach and ginger to help it settle the stomach!
Also I need a trash bag full of mashed potatoes
