Re: Moms who go Bump in the night/Randoms

  • Congratulations @newbabymakes4!!!!!!

So weird.  Preston has been up for 45 min now but has barely moved and hasn't made a peep but I know he's up cause his eyes are open and blinking.  Anyone else witness this.  I'm happy that he's content cause he has top and bottom right molars peeking out and went to bed with diarrhea and a fever. Poor guy.

Damien does that all the time, especially in the mornings. If it's at the end of a nap, he's more vocal about being ready to leave the crib. In the mornings, he just hangs out, often not even moving much. He seems to find a position he's comfortable in and just lays there...then again, I would do the same thing if given the chance.
  • Damien has managed to get a leg and/or an arm stuck through the bars of the crib at least twice today. It's been a while since that has happened and naturally it woke him up and he panicked. May have to put our mesh bumper back up.
  • The photographer we ended up choosing had to cancel on Saturday due to a busted ankle. She's out of commission for the next month or so. I'm really torn if we should wait until she is fully healed to do our session or try to find another photographer. The issue is that we didn't have any professional photos taken of Damien during his 1st year and I'm extremely bummed out about that since 95% of our photos aren't that great (camera phone pics). I want to try to get photos sooner rather than later, before he looks more like a toddler than a baby.

I imagine most photographers would be booked up for the next few weeks anyway so by the time I found an opening, she might be better. I do really like her and her price is just right...just not loving having to wait.

That said, her health comes first and I absolutely believe that she needs to be focusing on recovery and not trying to be on her feet.
  • @vintagevix2016 could you get quote from other photographers and you can decide when you know if they have openings?

  • I have a list of quotes from quite a few photographers in our area that I gathered from the initial search. I'm so used to the cost of photographers back in VA, their prices were so reasonable by comparison. I do plan to just check with a couple of the ones I've spoke to in the past, just to see. After talking with my husband, I think we will probably stick with the current one. No matter how old Damien is, we'll always appreciate having great photos. I shouldn't write off the ones we have anyway, they're not all bad when printed ;-)

  • It has been so cold and cloudy and wet for Colorado this year look what my tree is doing! It usually doesn't turn red until november!

I am! Bring on the sweaters and boots and not needing to shave my legs every day (outside of fertile week, I'll be nice to DH)

  • Not Friday, but I'll forget before then.

    (1) I totally stole the baby detangling spray I bought for Miles. After his haircut he doesn't need it, and my long, highlighted locks sure soak it up. Should have done this ages ago.

    (2) Defitely put Miles to bed without pants tonight. He goes nuts in footed pajamas, sweats through them in a 73 degree house, so he wears separates. We just put one set in the hamper yesterday, & the other two sets were still in the dryer from laundry two weekends ago. Except one white shirt that went through in a different load. It was either go downstairs and get pants, or put him down as he was. Sorry kid

  • If we're doing FFFC early I put Jackie to bed 1 1/2 hrs early because she was being so cranky and I couldn't handle it. She ended up sleeping better than she has for 2 weeks. Funny how that works.

  • Kids are confusing sometimes. Miles bit me so hard on the collar bone this morning while I was trying to get us ready that I still have an indent three hours later and a nice blood splotch under the skin. When I finally pried him off, yelling, I dropped him flat on my bed, about a foot and a half fall. He was terrified of the yelling and mad that I dropped him, but he still immediately reached for me to pick him up and comfort him as he cried. When I told him no, he looked around and picked up DH's discarded pajama shirt and held it out to me as some kind of peace offering, still bawling. Even when mommy is the one who made you feel bad, you still want mommy to make it better.

  • Starting a temporary job on Monday! I just got the call about it yesterday. It's moving so fast! It is only for a month, and it means that dh will be working from home most afternoons to manage the kids, and putting them to bed since I'll be working 2:30-10:30pm. I'm so worried about that shift for the kids, it will be a huge change. Especially once school starts.  But if it's terrible it will only be for a month, and I'll know to look for a different schedule when I find something permanent.
    Congrats!!!
  • @AmberLiz99 Awesome news, congrats!!
  • @AmberLiz99 Yay! Hopefully this will be the change in your job hunting luck and roll into a long term job for you.

  • I worried about it too, but it's made me such a better mom to have some adult interaction and time away from Jackie. I feel that on weekends and weeknights, even though everything is more busy, I'm a bit more present and less on edge around her.

  • Ok, major mom guilt moment! I had to go out tonight, so dh was putting the kids to bed. I got home a bit earlier than expected, and my 3 year old was in tears and my 6 year old was visibly trying not to sob, both because I wasn't there at bestime. This next month may be harder than I thought  :'(

As hard as it is it will be good for them to develop a bedtime routine with Dad too, and they will learn that you will always come back as well. Good luck with the job!
  • Super rough late afternoon/evening with Damien. Is it weird that I miss him anyway now that he's asleep in bed? Even on our worst days, I still want to spend every second with him.

Not at all! I often feel as though I can't wait for Savannah to go to bed if it's been a hard day, and then once she falls asleep I either don't want to put her down or find myself looking at pictures of her on my phone. I think it's normal to be this in love ;)

  • Is anyone else going to be able to view the eclipse? My location has about 97%, my husband wanted to drive up into Wyoming so we could have the full effect but I was like "97% is good enough for me!"

We're only going to see about 70% but I may step out from the office to check it out. I wonder if daycare will do anything. I'd rather they keep the little ones inside.

I hope so! I'm trying to look up the info now, although I don't have the special glasses you apparently need.

We're about 99% here in S. Indiana, with total effect about 90 minutes away. They're doing a viewing at my office with free glasses, but as my dad is taking my mother to a field somewhere random for the full eclipse, I have no babysitters. So Miles and I will have to watch out the living room window

I just paid a stupid amount for 3 pairs... I lied to my mom when she asked how much, lol. People have literally gone insane here and they are hard to get now.
  • We'll get about 85% here. I'm planning to step outside the office to see it. I bought glasses a couple weeks ago.

As for kids and pets, I saw something online that said to keep pets inside because they might look directly at it and blind themselves. I think it happens during Jackie's nap time anyway and Halsey will be at home in the house.

  • I'll be at work during the eclipse. Lol. Not sure how visible it will be in San Diego.

I did read a cool trick if you don't have the glasses. Pull up the camera on your phone, put it on selfie mode, and hold it above your shoulder so you can view it on your screen (hence no eye damage!). Maybe I'll try it if we aren't busy and I can step outside for a minute.
  • Do fevers go with sinus infections? This is day 5 with a temp just under 101 for me and the only thing I can think of is that it must be sinus related. Is that something people go to the doctor for? I'm always so paranoid calling the nurse line with Miles, but when it comes to myself…  :/

Yes it definitely can- sinus infections generally start as something viral and you need OTC Meds (saline spray/nettipot, mucinex, etc) but they can become bacterial (think green snot) and in that case you would need an antibiotic.

Yup, when Damien had a sinus infection, he had a fever along with it.

It can, if you think it's a sinus infection I would go in. My sinus infection lasted two months and took forever and lots of antibiotics to kick.

I agree. I don't go in often, but with a fever lasting this long and possible infection, it can't hurt

We were in the path of totality! It was sooooo amazing. The ring around the sun was beautiful
That's awesome! We had like 97 or 98% which was cool. We had a great time watching it too!
  • We had about 60% so it wasn't as noticeable for us. I still took a break from work to check it out.
  • We had about 75%, I thought it would be a lot darker, but it was still amazing to watch!
