I went in yesterday for my 14 week appointment, baby looked great and measured really well. The doctor noted a large fibroid, she was not concerned at all. It is the size of a tangerine and near the baby.
My doctor said they are common/normal and not to worry. It could get bigger, it could shrink on its own. I did some reading when I got home about how a low GI diet can help reduce its size... anyone have experience?
Re: Fibroid- anyone have experience with this during pregnancy?
I don't know about how to reduce them, but I've read that often they don't grow during pregnancy because they're not getting the blood supply they need to grow.

I have a very large one. It's on the inside and through all layers of my uterus so it can't be removed. It did get a lot bigger as my pregnancy progressed with my first. They thrive with hormones. DD will be 1 in a few weeks. My OB specializes with this. There are actually a lot of complications that can arise with a fibroid inside the uterus and unfortunately I had everything happen. Stop reading if this is just going to scare you cause I'm going to be very honest.
I went into preterm labor which is a risk with a large fibroid. My fibroid got so big during the pregnancy that it started to degenerate and that caused problems. Then I had low fluids which they thought was caused from the fibroid taking blood supply. They also increase your risk of PP hemorrhage which I had and it was severe. I was induced 2 weeks early cause of the low fluids.
I was monitored very close through my pregnancy because of the fibroid and all it's fun symptoms of causes. For the last 2 months of that pregnancy I had an ultrasound weekly and nurses at my house every other day doing stress tests. During this pregnancy by 12 weeks I'll have had 4 ultrasounds.
Everyone is different. Your fibroid may just be different and won't cause you any problems. I unfortunately had every one they covered with me.
my fibroid did shrink 2cm within 9 months of having DD. Thats not huge but it helped. I also went vegan as they say dairy and meat feed fibroids but it didn't shrink that much so who knows.

Did your doctors say there was anything that could be done to shrink the fibroid while pregnant?
Thank you for your honesty. I do want to make sure that I'm monitored closely enough to be on the safe side. My doctor is also the dean of medicine at our local hospital, I have always respected her and trusted her judgment.
I am so sorry to hear about the possibility of losing your uterus or having a hysterectomy. Have you always had fibroids or this one in particular? Thank you for the honest information and wishing the absolute best for you!!!
My doctor said (and everything I've read) that fibroids in pregnancy are very common. I've never had fibroids pre-pregnancy, so this is all very new to me. My mom had one removed when she was in her 30's. Mine is currently 1.2cm in diameter. It looks as if the baby is laying over it, head on one side, belly on the highest part of fibroid and feet down a bit. It's almost like its a ball.. I am really praying that this doesn't cause issues for the baby or pregnancy.
