Nauseous mommies United - foods that help.

I've been hunting for foods that help with getting through this first trimester.  Last time, al I ate was bread , pasta and crackers and my weight became an issue.  What healthy foods help you guys get by?  Including mine in comments .

Re: Nauseous mommies United - foods that help.

  • Egg drop soup.  Hands down , my favorite discovery for an upset stomach .  The boiled carrots and tofu add some nutrition with all those eggs.  Plus it's bland enough not to upset me.

  • Cucumber has helped me!

  • Allllllll the fruit except Melons (I just personally don't like them) but I just bought Strawberries, Grapes, Blueberries, blackberries, and plums, and have been snacking on those and its helped!!
  • I cannot recommend the BRAT diet enough. Bananas, rice, applesauce, and toast. I especially like buttered toast with a little bit of sugar sprinkled on top.

  • For me, as long as I have something in my belly I'm ok. Empty stomach = nauseous. That bad thing is the only foods that sound good most of the time are carbs. I need to get on a healthier track. Although, that egg drop sounds amazing right now @sweetpea236

  • This would probably be a good post for the questions thread.  It helps keep the board from getting overwhelmed.

To answer your question...The foods to help each person with MS are very person specific.  Almost everything recommended here would probably make me sicker.

  • @sweetpea236 I never would have thought of egg drop soup... going to try that!
  • A fiber one bar helped me yesterday

  • I second fruit. I had had lots of fruit smoothies with my first. I haven't gotten as bad with this one to cater to the nausea yet.

  • My first time around I lived off goldfish and sprite. This time around I'm not having many problems but when I do a slice of bread helps.

Not a food, but the thing that helped me the most last pregnancy was vitamin B6!

    Me (33). DH (37). DD (2.2012). MCs x4. After 4 years & 7 months, due 4.2018!

  • I've found sparkling water helps a lot, especially the lime flavored kind. And it helps me cut back on the ginger ale, which is my usual go-to for nausea.

  • Hard lemon candies help curve my nausea, especially when I'm not able to sit down and eat. Was my go-to last pregnancy as well!

  • I love miso soup, the warm salty combo always settles my stomach. But egg drop sounds good too, and more nutritious!

Last time I went through two tins of preggie pops (sour candy with b vitamins). They helped my nausea, I think, but are delicious so they help distract you if nothing else.
  • I love everything you just said @natalknitter15
  • I know I need to keep a full stomach.  That helps most.  Saltines, chicken soup, pasta, toast.  Protein is the hardest for me b/c I have a hard time stomaching it, but if I can get some in, I feel better.  Also, sipping on ginger ale and coke helps me too.

I just had a friend suggest this as well. She had said it was a life save. @natalknitter15 your list is spot on. Eating all day is key.

    *edit - post cut off
  • @sweetpea7628 I LOVE egg drop soup. Now I'm just going to get it because it sounds amazing.

    My go to's:
    • snack very lightly all day
    • Grapes
    • lots of water - but drink it in a cup not a bottle. Supposedly that helps w/bloating (but I could just be an idiot, but I'll try anything)
    • peppermint candy or any hard candy if I am not by peppermint (supposed to really help)
    I stay away from:
    • anything heavy/greasy
    • coffee (and I LOVE coffee, but this time around my body said NOPE)

All of this is working really great in my experience. This is great, thanks! One thing I noticed is that I can tolerate tea and cold brew coffee but not my regular coffee. It is causing really bad heartburn and nausea, even a small amount. I also have a little minty smelling lipbalm at my desk that has been nice when the super sniffer is activated.

  • @SarahKate31thanks for the tip! I'll have to try tea and iced coffee
  • Trader Joe's has a ginger lemonade which has helped so much with my nausea today.

  • I've tried everything and I'm literally surviving on pringles. Everything else comes right back out
  • 6w today and feeling nauseous for the 1st time. Thanks for all the tips, ladies!!
  • @natalknitter15 exactly! This is how I survived my first and doing it again.

I am having the hardest time drinking enough fluids this time, I feel like liquid in my stomach makes me feel immediately  nauseous. Ian going to try to mix it up more with lemon aid, ect. Hoping it will help
  • This is my second pregnancy and watermelon is the best think ever right now. Symptoms r way worse this time.
  • Frozen grapes!!! Pop one in and suck on it for a bit. Cold things seem to really help me.
  • Fresh fruit (fruit salad stuff, not apples or pears) and raw salad veggies go down well.

And idk why, but pizza is settling my stomach better than anything else right now.

RIP Dr. Irving Fishman - 10/1/19-7/25/10 - thank you for holding on for me.

  • Sour things have been really helping me! So weird!
  • edited August 2017
So, this is weird, but I think I really want something with mayonnaise. I've had nothing but aversions for two weeks but I haven't been able to stop thinking about egg salad all day and I'm going to go home and make myself some. This could either be amazing or a horrible terrible idea...we will find out. I'm also going to pick up some pizza bites on my way home just in case  :p
  • Tried taking a Unisom before bed last night and I woke up feeling much better today.  I was actually able to eat something and enjoy how it tasted this morning.

  • I found these ginger candies on Amazon called Gin-Gins.  They are super chewy, more so than taffy.  I can't tell if they actually are helping me or just distracting me from feeling sick, but I guess it's a win either way.
***March '18 October Siggy Challenge: Halloween Costume Fails***

  • @fancybelmont Ive been taking unisom at bedtime and I didn't realize how much it help until I didn't take it for the first time the other day! I won't be skipping it again!
  • For my warm foods are really hard to stomach right now so tangy/citrus fruits like orange and pinapple, smoothies, and carbonated soda are good. I'm also having some luck with hard mint candies and sour candies. Like most of the other responses though, the  number 1 thing is to not let your stomach get empty!
  • It made a huge difference!  I hope that it continues to.  I've gotta ask my OB about B6 vitamins too b/c I've heard that helps as well.

  • @bettyvonsomethingstein I love those candies! I actually ended up ordering a bunch of their hard candies because my jaw was getting so tired from chewing the chewy ones.
