Chronic Pain/ Chronic Illness

Anyone else have any health issues? I have Ehlers Danlos syndrome and chronic pain. Haven't told a lot of people I'm pregnant so here is the only place I can get support! How is everyone coping with no pain killers ect? I used to have short wave therapy and was on the waiting list for other treatments! Had a really hard day Thursday and am finding it quite difficult to cope without my usual pain management routine! Anyone else in the same boat please feel free to chat and say how you are feeling! Don't wish illness on anyone but would be nice to not be alone! Know there isn't much we can do but would be nice to air out how we are doing!

Re: Chronic Pain/ Chronic Illness

  • I have migraines.  I fortunately don't have the really bad ones too often, but I'm suffering today.  In bed all day.  However, part of my migraines include moderate to fairly severe headaches daily.  I honestly don't remember a time where I didn't have a headache.  I can't take the meds I normally take.  I normally will get some relief from Advil, but I can't even take that right now.  My only option is Tylenol, which does absolutely nothing.  I'm just soldiering on.  Nothing else I can do.  A cold compress over my eyes and understanding people is about all that helps.

I'm not familiar with Ehlers Danlos, but I hope you can find something that helps.  And I completely understand not wishing anything bad on anyone, but I get knowing that there are others that can relate.

  • A friend of mine and both of her young daughters have Ehlers Danlos. Sorry you have to deal with that.

I have spondylilothesis, spinal stenosis, and chronic nerve pain associated. I have learned to live without pain meds bc I don't like how they make me feel. I basically ignore it and keep moving which sometimes works and sometimes doesn't. Staying strong helps me to cope so working out is a must. We will see what happens as this pregnancy progresses bc I did not have this with my previous pregnancies.

I have chronic migraines too but they actually got much better while pregnant with DD. I've had fewer so far this pregnancy so I'm hoping that's the case again because Tylenol for a migraine is a freaking joke.
  • I have Lupus and therefore chronic pain. I am under the care of a pain clinic and the high risk pregnancy unit at our hospital. My pain is actually really well managed with painkillers. I was amazed in my last pregnancy by what you can safely take. I will add that the high risk unit here is reknowned globally for the quality of care and physicians so I trust them implicitly. I was told that being inactive and stressed due to pain carried more risk than taking appropriate pain relief under their stewardship. I am glad this has been posted! I would love to hear how others are coping / dealing with it. I feel great right now, but from experience know that as I get bigger my arthritis will become incapacitating. It's good to know there are others here who can relate.
  • @LydRussell so happy to hear that you are able to manage your pain well and that you have the right services nearby to help! @smorzandoj the midwife advised me that she thinks third trimester might be the worst because of the extra weight and body parts moving about, glad you are able to stay strong through the pain! @olitwinturbosnprincess sorry you were in bed all today, hate days like that but they do help rather than trying to make yourself do things you aren't strong enough for! Upsetting medicine isn't helping but hopefully as pregnancy goes on we might be able to find alternatives that work a bit! We might not get fixed but to control my symptoms a bit would help!
