After reading the UO thread I could tell there are a few other geek moms (I also thought red shirting was a Star Trek reference...)
Lets share our favorite fandoms, boardgames, video games, cult classics, animes, card games, table top games, larps, horror films, TV series, etc...
what do you hope to get current and future children addicted to?
Re: Geek moms
I run an all ladies tabletop group every wednesday night after DD is in bed. I'm hoping that I can keep it up after this baby is born.
I hope my children love tabletop and boardgames as much as I do. My husband likes Magic TG, but is more of a PC gamer.
I cant wait to relive the magic, and watch their world expand!
I'm hoping both of my children love Harry Potter and Dr. Who. I'd love to use them as an excuse to go to the Harry Potter theme park. I mean, ehhh... I'd love to celebrate their 11th birthdays with Hogwarts letters and trips to the theme park.
I'm also hoping they love board games as much as my husband and I do. Some of our favorite games are Takenoko, Rummikub, the Bean Game, Sheriff of Nottingham, Tichu, Red Dragon Inn, Codenames, Splendor, Love Letter, and Blokus. There are a million others in our house, of course.

@GG620 there are so many cute ideas for HP nurseries! Definitely a theme that can grow with the kid too.
Other nerd things we do: videogames. We're really into Legend of Zelda and DH and I play it together. We also like RPGs. We started to get into D&D, but it was right before we moved towns so we're just sort of experimenting with the starter set for now until we meet people who might want to play in earnest. We also play Pokémon cards. DH loves Star Wars, but I can't really get into it. Scifi is more his thing and I like fantasy and Renaissance Fairs and fairies and stuff.
Im also laying in bed watching Starvate Sg1 right now if that wasn't nerdy enough for you!!
Videogame-wise, I love Legend of Zelda, the "Tales of" series (Tales of Symphonia is one of my favorites), and Kingdom Hearts (so hyped for KH3!). I also play League of Legends, Blizzard games (not really into WoW anymore), and FFXIV.
I don't watch much american tv, that's because I usually watch Anime when I find something good. I also play tons of board games, and DND each week with work friends.

@Cowboycorgi I love this thread!
MH and I are both big time nerds - we watch tons of anime and read sci-fi. We play Pathfinder/D&D, MTG and board games.
@SoraLk I love the Pern books! They were my introduction to fantasy, and even though I don't read so much fantasy any more, they will always have a home on my shelf.
@Cowboycorgi @SoraLk What are your top favorite anime series?
@HappyMonkey817 Rummikub is maybe my favorite traditional board game of all time!

Harry Potter! Would you consider GoT geeky? I mean, my entire family and I dressed up as the GoT characters last Halloween. It was epic.
Years ago I used to play Runescape with my little brother all the time, but haven't been on it in YEARS! That game was fun! lol
I am a huge Marvel fan. I love all Marvel comics and movies. I even named my vehicle Jarvis, hehe.
hell, I geek out about fiber arts! Crochet nerds FTW!
Renn faires are amazing! I take my corgis dressed up like fairies every year!
@hedgepig, love the name! All time favorite anime s are: Grave of the fireflies *sob!, Master of Mosquiton the Vampire, Hellsing, Cowboy Bebop, Howls Moving Castle (although the book is better), and Record of the Lodoss War. Just looking at these titles I realize that even though I love newer animes, it is the ones I watched as a teen that I consider my favorites. We had to drive 90 mins to get to the nearest store to buy VHS tapes! I still have my 6 tapes of Record of the Lodoss war because it took me so long to earn enough babysitting money to buy it.
YAASSS!!! We'll be waiting!
Sadly I couldn't find any fairy corgis on my phone, but I was able to find my older girl dressed in my glasses. Total bookworm!
@Cowboycorgi I only started watching anime as an adult, so I don't know as many of the older shows, but I bet you and MH could reminisce for days!
This reminds me - we also watch K-Dramas from time to time

I grew up living on old sci-fi and fantasy books. I was such a voracious reader as a kid that by age 7 my mom had given up buying me kids books and my dad just dug up a crate of his novels from college for me. So the entire Dragonriders series was a major part of my formative years, along with some classic short sci-fi collections.
I also got into anime fairly early - back when Sailor Moon was dubbed by Dic and they were still bothering to edit the blood out of episodes of DBZ, haha. I do mostly tend to stick to the classics - 90s anime that was still cel-animated (Yu Yu Hakusho, Outlaw Star, Gundam Wing, Slayers, etc)- but I have made some attempt to check out newer stuff. Log Horizon has been really good, Full Metal Alchemist: Brotherhood is amazing... I'm still pretty behind, lol, I don't have as much tv-watching time as I'd like.
I actually have 2 DBZ themed tattoos. 1 is a large thigh piece of lego versions of vegeta, Loki, and snape.
Ive only seen the original full metal alchemist, and haven't gotten around to brotherhood. Is it worth the revision?
It is really cool to have 2 hearts inside me
