Re: High Risk Check-In 8/8
35+1
Why are you high-risk?
Pre-eclampsia, multiple MCs, insulin resistant, bicornuate uterus
Any additional monitoring or testing this week?
Been stuck at L&D since Friday, aside from a short 12 hour respite to spend a night at home Sunday before having to check back in. I have labs run a few times a day, NSTs every 8 hours, and a handful of other monitoring stuff going on through the day.
Any concerns/news currently?
Just waiting for the go ahead to begin the induction. They are trying to give LO all the time possible to keep growing without waiting too long on the pre-e front.
Anything I can pray for you specifically about right now?
Pray that we can go ahead and get the ball rolling on the induction. While LO will definitely be preemie, I am ready to be done with the constant monitors and waiting to see if something changes that requires a sudden course change.
GTKY: What was your favorite toy as a child?
I preferred to make toys out of random sticks, weeds, or other various things I found outside. I was easy to please as a kid.
35 weeks!
Why are you high-risk?
I carry an antibody.
Any additional monitoring or testing this week?
Not this week.
Any concerns/news currently?
They pushed back my due date from 9/8 to 9/12. The midwives did an ultrasound at 7 weeks and then I was measuring 4 days behind so they pushed my due date to 9/12. When I went to see MFM at 10 weeks the ultrasound which was more detailed showed I was measuring perfectly with my LMP date so they never changed my due date and I have been going with 9/8 all along. So when I went in a few weeks ago when I was having contractions my midwife said they are going to stick with 9/12 since I will be delivering with them.
Anything I can pray for you specifically about right now?
Getting my platelets checked again next Monday and hopefully they stay above 100K.
GTKY: What was your favorite toy as a child?
Skip-It!
33 wks 4 days - I am pretty sure I said I was 33 wks last week. Opps, wishful thinking I guess
Why are you high-risk?
Gd
Any additional monitoring or testing this week?
Weekly NST and OB appointment
Any concerns/news currently?
Last week they caught a couple contractions on my test so they told me to drink lots of water and relax.
Anything I can pray for you specifically about right now?
Baby stays in place longer with good tests
GTKY: What was your favorite toy as a child?
One of Skippers friends had my first name and dark hair. I thought it was amazing!
36w4d
Why are you high-risk?
Short cervix, suspected placental abruption
Any additional monitoring or testing this week?
Final biophysical profile and growth scan ultrasound, followed by OB appt, on Thursday.
Any concerns/news currently?
OMG. I'm being induced in 3 days! Cannot wait to meet this little guy very very soon!
Anything I can pray for you specifically about right now?
A smooth and uncomplicated induction and delivery
GTKY: What was your favorite toy as a child?
My sisters and I loved playing with barbies!
33w4d
Why are you high risk?
Heart defect
Any additional monitoring or testing this week?
None this week. U/S next week. Echocardiogram the week after. The echo is my heart, not baby's.
Any concerns/news currently?
My OB confirmed that I will not go past 9/29. My insurance changes 10/1 and then sucks, so this is a huge relief.
Anything I can pray for you specifically about right now?
Just that everything keeps looking good with baby and my heart.
GTKY: What was your favorite toy as a child?
I was a big fan of Barbies and stuffed animals.

Why are you high-risk? Type 1 DM, MTHFR
Any additional monitoring or testing this week?
Always. OB was on Monday, we did BPP ultrasound, GBS swab and 24 hr urine and labs.. Friday is growth scan with MFM.
Any concerns/news currently?
- GBS Positive
-24 hr urine protein came back at 280 which is still in a good range for not being pre-e. Thank goodness.
- Liver enzymes were normal, platelets 167, and I'm proudest most of all that my glucose was 80 on the blood work. I've never had a number above 90 on their blood work and they must wonder if I really am diabetic
- Fridays growth scan will indicate if we are inducing next week at 37 or the week after at 38. Something tells me now it will be 38. My blood sugars are cooperating better since my insulin changes. And the no pre -e gives me comfort as well.
Ooo can I complain about my mail order pharmacy? They just switched companies recently so none of my prescriptions got transferred over.. and my refills didn't get done. Biggest issue is my test strips. I called 2 weeks ago saying hey refill this please wtf I'm running super low! And they're like oh we need an active prescription.. we'll contact your doctor and fill it then. Which..... it was a brand new prescription last time, why are there no refills. Ugh. But, I haven't heard anything, and I ran out today. So I'm going to the pharmacy to purchase my own out of pocket.. thank goodness it's are option, but SO annoying!
Anything I can pray for you specifically about right now?
Just for the decision for delivery to be in my best interest! I'm not sure what I want. I'm ready but not ready. DH said he hopes it is next week
Oh maybe pray that I can collect sufficient colostrum. Apparently a good goal is 60 mLs. ..... wut. Haven't started yet because I don't want to cause issues but I'm feeling down to the wire!
GTKY: What was your favorite toy as a child?
I had this stuffed animal Shamu whale that I got from Sea World, and he's maybe 2 feet long. I slept with him every night up through college! I still have him, he's just hiding in the top of my closet.. replaced by something that supports my belly better....

So what the type 1 community likes to do is hand express colostrum about 37 weeks and freeze it in syringes to bring to the hospital for the nurses to give baby to try to prevent baby from going to the NICU over the course of the next few days. The moms I've talked to brought 60 mLs of colostrum.. I'm amazed and not sure how I'll get that much out of me! But the reality may be using the oral syringes several times a day for 2-3 days to keep the blood sugar up.
ETA: Europe, Canada and Australia are proactive for supporting this. The US.... physicians not so much. La Leche league and other breastfeeding foundations will support it, but physicians here in America are very hesitant because "nipple stimulation, preterm labor on noes!!". My doctor actually "forbid" me from doing it stating unmonitored contractions are no good. But from what I've read (medical journals) as well as experience from mom's who have done it, I'm going to do it anyway. Gentle hand expression 2-3 times a day and stopping if any cramping occurs. It cannot be worse than sex, seriously. I cramp so bad with sex, but I dont get anything when dh squeezes my boobs for fun to watch the colostrum (it's a secret new hobby he has.. haha).

Today is the day you guys! They started the induction meds a couple hours ago, and if all goes well I will get to hold my baby girl tonight or tomorrow morning! I am so excited!
I will say for those having to choose between Cytotek and other options for induction, the Cytotek has not been that bad. I was nervous about it before because of the situation under which I had been given it the last time. But this time has not been bad at all. No awful reactions; the cramping has been moderate and slowly progressing which allows you to adjust to it. Just wanted to share since I know there has been a lot of negativity posted about this option on our inductions thread.

There definitely is a lot of of fear mongering about doing this.. partly why I have these feelings sometimes! But then other people support me and give me tons of articles supporting it and say don't listen to the fear mongering.

Usually it takes more than a few minutes of nipple stimulation to release enough oxytocin to induce the kind of uterine contractions required for labor, but there is a chance things can go awry with this, just like failing to drink enough water can induce contractions too (dehydration --> release of vasopressin which is almost identical in chemical structure to oxytocin and can mimic its effects in some people).
Anyway, most people will get some uterine contractions because of the oxytocin released due to nipple stimulation, but oxytocin won't do much to dilate your cervix unless it is already on it's way dilated in the first place. Just make sure to drink a lot of water and take a good long break from nipple stimulation and other oxytocin-releasing activities (sex, out of control cuddling, etc.) if you are worried.
Again, disclaimer - not a MD but a scientist! Please don't consider this official medical advice!
