UO 8/10

Sorry it's so late today! I had no idea it was Thursday until DH got home from work lol

Any unpopular opinions still lingering around?

  • @PinkPrincessPiper WTF! Love the meme though!  but seriously, if she invited that many to her 4th baby shower, how many were invited to her wedding!

  • I'm working until this baby comes. I've had a feeling I'm going to be late since we got pregnant (dating U/S, LMP, and app tracking all line up for my EDD). Idk if this is super unpopular everywhere but in the SF Bay Area people are confused to the point of trying to lecture me into taking the time. I literally lose it on the other end if I take it now and it's my choice. I'm perfectly capable of completing my job at 38, 39, 40+ weeks pregnant.

  • @PinkPrincessPiper that's pure insanity.

@aehogan90 I couldn't agree more; social media just isn't a safe place for kids.

Kids younger than 16 should NOT have social media accounts. And even then, they should be monitored. The brain is not finished growing until 25ish, so rational decisions can't be expected from a child.
Agree 1000%! My 10yo (almost 11) is going into 5th grade & begging for a smart phone. I'm not giving him unfiltered access to internet, social media apps, etc! And the "all the other kids have them" comments are just sad. All these 5th graders with iPhones and FB & IG accounts. SMH.
  • @aehogan90 I agree.  Its not about the phone as much as knowing how to stay safe.  When they are young, they just dont understand the dangers that are out there, and how real they are.  Im all for a kid having a phone, but why does it need to be latest greatest phone.

  • @kvh22 I'm working until this baby is born as well. I want to save all my time off for when baby's here. I did start working from home yesterday (38+4) although I feel fine to go to the office
  • @kvh22 Im working up until I go into labor as well.  Ive been at home since about 38 weeks, but that was because I dont fit very well behind the wheel anymore, and felt it was getting to unsafe.  Im working from the couch/kitchen island today at 40+2.

  • @lewliv and @littlebug2010 - great to hear you ladies are still working, too! Totally agree on rather having the time later if that's what you want (it's up to each of us and I'm all for anyone taking the time before the baby if you want to). Everyone keeps telling me I'll regret not taking it but I know myself and I feel like I'd regret 3 days or 3 weeks - whatever it ends up being - not spent at home with my baby because I took it now. I've been working from home for the most part because my team is remote and bay area traffic is a nightmare. I don't want to go into labor at work and be an hour and a half from home & the hospital (even though it's just 20 miles).

  • Agree with you ladies about working up until birth. I've also had a few comments and strange looks (even today) at work when I tell people I'm due in 2 weeks. They're like, "why are you here?!". Personally, I would rather have the time with my baby (even though having the next 2 weeks off would be amazing to catch up on chores and sleep). I'll start working from home full time at 39 weeks so at least I'll have that!

@Kudlica27 School doesn't be start until September for us, so I am banking on coming back in late November and only having to work a few weeks before Christmas break.

  • Add me to the list of working until I deliver.  With my first, I was taken out of work 1 month early and put on bed rest.  It really stressed me out because I was totally unprepared for that.  Last time, I worked until my water broke.  I hope to be able to work for another 6 days and make it to my c-section date because I have a bunch of things that I want to wrap up at work.  Things have been so busy and instead of winding down, I keep taking on more.  I don't mind, but I'm nervous I'm going to deliver earlier than planned and leave a lot of things unfinished.

  • My last day is tomorrow (Ill be 38+6), and I've been getting the same 'why are you still working?' from everyone. I'm an ER nurse and I'm used to constantly moving, not sure why I am supposed to stop. I am per diem so I had to choose a last day when I made my schedule like 6 weeks ago. If they call me and ask me to come in next week I don't see why I'd stay home. I actually feel better when I'm up and moving, when I sit too long my back starts to hurt.

  • I worked up to 39 weeks then took a weeks vacation time since I had it because I was also getting the "you're still here" comments.
Today is my official "last day worked" and due date and I feel like I could easily still be at work. I had to give two weeks notice so I just picked the due date. At least I'll be induced at one week over if needed.

@MetsGirl18 - I felt the same the week before I was supposed to go off. Things just kept coming up - you'll find the right time to just say no, when you're comfortable. Then the last two days I was looking around for things to do lol They know you're going off and could at anytime - you're there though and it's great that you doing whatever you can. It'll all work out!

  • @JWatt5 I feel like I would have enjoyed a week without work like that, however, my company makes me take any day that I dont work as vacation (even though they dont count sick days :expressionless:).  Im still WFH at 40 +3 now, and at this point, though Im 100% capable of working still, I am so distracted that I am getting basically no work done.

  • @littlebug2010 - I bet I would be getting pretty distracted too! It's probably worse than the first trimester - I was consumed with my pregnancy - so distracted. It's so different for you gals in the US too - timing when you go off seems be tricky in a different way since you can work until the day you have the baby if you want. You can do that here if your employer is ok with it but most say just pick a day and stick to it. A lot go off a month early here. Keep on going girl - baby will be here soon!

  • I worked until my due date, which was a Friday, baby arrived Monday afternoon.  If she had arrived later it would have been fine, but my company kept saying I was a trooper when I was packing up at 5 on Friday.  Um, I love my job, thanks!

With my first, I worked up til she was born which was a Friday. I had her Sunday at 40w 5d. Nobody thought it was weird in my company which is kind of annoying. It was basically expected that I would work til baby came. There were 2 other girls pregnant when I was and they worked up in til they delivered also. Though, one girl started working from home when she developed PUPPs right before she had her son.
