March 2018 Moms

Just for fun

Hey ladies! There has been too many losses lately, and way too much drama. Let's take a from all the sadness, and have a little fun!

Post a picture or gif of your perfect vacation! It could be a location, activity, or even the food you would eat during your imaginary vacation (and of course you have no food aversions or MS to get in the way).

Lets all dream and relax with each other...

  • @muggle621, I want to dig my toes in that sand and sip out of a coconut!

  • This was from my honeymoon last August! I would love to go back to Hawaii, again and again. It was so peaceful and beautiful! And what I wouldn't give to smell the fresh air, especially now that my sense of smell has heightened! I bet it's more wonderful than before! :)

  • @crossfitbabybump we went to Hawaii for our honeymoon in July  <3

  • Hawaii look heavenly!
  • @crossfitbabybump  We did a cruise to visit Maui, Kauai, the Big Island and I think some other ones.  Then we stayed for one week in Oahu.  Totally in love with Hawaii and was contemplating going back this August!

  • Love this thread!  I miss travel so much! Haven't done much of it since DD was born 2 years ago.

DH and I went to the Azores islands, in the middle of the Atlantic, for our honeymoon. We're both not people to go to the same place twice but we would LOVE to go back there.  We visited 8 of the 9 islands and would love to see the one we didn't and spend more time on a few of the islands we didn't visit (Flores was amazing ans we only had 2 day so there).

We've had very little time just to ourselves in the last couple of years and are hoping for a more local getaway to Prince Edward Island for a couple nights at the end of the summer!

Hawaii is also on our bucket list so loving hearing about people's experiences there!
  • @fiddleRN79 @lgutu28 Romania has always been somewhere I've wanted to see too!  I've worked with a few people who were born and raised there and always love their pictures and stories from their trips home!
  • @paigew123 and @scotiagirl, traveling is very difficult with little kids! When my DD was 2 months old we went to Orlando FL on a week long universal studios trip I had paid for before I was pregnant. I am so happy I splurged to stay at a on campus resort! The sun was so hot mid day that the park was too much for DD, so we were able to go back to our hotel and order room service from 11-2 every day. DH would nap with DD while I got pool time.

After that hat trip I knew there was no way I would be able to keep an older toddler entertained on an airplane... so now we camp spring-fall instead of taking a large vacation, but I'm eager to start traveling in 2-3 years!

@Cowboycorgi you're tough to have done that trip with a 2 month old!  My DH's family live a flight away from us and we went when DD was 4 months and 8 months but haven't flown with her since then.  Mostly because I went back to work and our vacation time has been pretty minimal, but also I had no desire to fly with a young toddler lol.  I actually had really good experiences flying with a baby and found people on the flight quite helpful and understanding.  I really feel like you wouldn't get the same grace with a toddler!

I'd also love to hike the Appalachian Trail.

@Staciefacie that place looks gorgeous and fascinating! I'm adding it to my list. :)
  • @scotiagirl @Cowboycorgi I fly back and forth across the country every few months with DS and have done since he was 8 weeks or so. Surprisingly in his almost 30 flights so far, I have only had two people be &$$holes. Most of the flights are around 5 hours but I have a variety of things to keep him entertained and he's a pretty good flyer. If I didn't do this, he would never get see our families. Anyway, flying with babies and toddlers can be hard, but overall, in my experience, it hasn't been bad. That being said, I will probably only fly back to the East Coast once more before I have this one because flying while pregnant with a toddler is a whole other can of worms and I get super nauseous on landings sooo... :D
  • @mdfarmchick this makes me happy to hear you've had such good experiences!  How old is DS?  And yes I can imagine flying while pregnant with a toddler would bring a whole new set of challenges!
  • @scotiagirl he's about to turn two. And a very frequent flyer.
  • @vjlanier I love the NC mountains! I lived in Asheville for a summer in college and it's such a beautiful/fun place! We plan to go this Fall and I can't wait!

We used to travel a lot before we had DS. We don't usually revisit the same places, but I would love to go to Iceland again!

I studied abroad in Australia and I would love to go back with DH and our kids someday. I basically became obsessed with sea turtles while I was there and seeing "Crush" IRL was so exciting!

For somewhere neither of us have been, I would love to stay in an overwater bungalow in French Polynesia.

  • @mamaloba816 we went to Iceland for 2 weeks a few years back.  Absolutely loved it, and definitely somewhere else we'd be open to going back to. They have a lot of promotions here where you can book a flight with stop in Iceland for a four days while on your way to Europe. I feel like that's something we'd be open to doing in the future with kids!   And an overwater bungalow in French Polynesia looks amazing!!
  • @scotiagirl Iceland has a pretty big yarn festival every year that I wanted to go to with my mom. I have so many places I want to go.

@Igutu28 I read a lot about Romania when I was in middle school. I can't remember what prompted me to do that lol. I really would love to visit the castles and the cities look amazing. I hate that we tear down historic buildings in the U.S. I'll never forget being in Amsterdam and finding out that people were still living in buildings from the 1300's. Mind blown. We also saw the Porta Nigra in Trier, Germany that was built around 200 AD. I love history and old buildings.

  • @mdfarmchick I'd love ideas of how to keep a toddler entertained on a flight! We just booked tickets to visit my brother half way around the world, it's the first trip I'll be taking with him since he was about 6 months old....(my parents and siblings will be flying w us too, so I'm hoping I'll have their help)
@Cowboycorgi my mom in law has been great with taking DS for short amount of times so dh and I can get away for 2-3 days @ a time...but we never feel it warrants a full blown trip to cool places because wed be taking off as soon as we land...SO it's usually just local trips...
  • @mdfarmchick my family on my dad's side is from Isle of Skye, and we want to go as a family so bad! We discussed summer of '18, but I'll be curious if that happens with a baby coming in March!

I really want to go to Isle of Skye, but especially the fairy pools. My dad's side of the family comes from Isle of Skye and I would love to visit the home of my ancestors! (Loving Outlander/the Highlands in general doesn't hurt, either.

I'd also love to go back to Japan and get up to Kyoto this time.

  • @paigew123 I ask for my in flight drinks with a lid and a straw now. We haven't actually flown internationally with DS yet but I think that lids and straws are common to offer on flights with kids. And I always ask for an extra empty cup with a lid and a straw. I kid you not, DS will play with that for almost an hour. I have an iPad full of Mickey Mouse Clubhouse, which is his favorite show and a couple of movies like Moana and Secret Life of Pets. I also have brought Crayola's color wonder markers and coloring books. I have a Boogie Board that I got for $15 last year at Costco that we use to practice drawing shapes or pictures. I also bring his favorite stuffed animals ((a Dinosaur, Puppy and Giraffe)) because he will snuggle up with them for a nap. I bring toddler formula for him because he likes it and it doesn't have to be refrigerated like milk does. Usually my greedy teething toddler will down 2-3 between 2-3 hours at the airport and a 5 hour flight. I bought the red solo cup mini shot glasses at Walmart ((4 for a $1)) and he will take them and practice "pouring" with them for a really long time. I think the key is variety. The Melissa and Doug coloring with water pen has been suggested to me but I haven't tried that yet. And friends bring the window clings but my LO will still try to taste them sooo... Oh and matchbox cars are a hit too. And I always pack him a ton of snacks for when he is hungry. DS has flown so many times he will most of the time clear his own ears--if you have a kid that may not know to do that, offer snacks and drinks on take off and landing or a pacifier if your LO still takes one. The sucking motion helps them to clear their ears.

@ksmwalters That's awesome. Skye is definitely worth it. Although I "saw" the fairy pools, we didn't actually do the hike down because I had a Shih Tzu with short legs and an adversion to mud, and I didn't actually bring my Wellies. We went in October. My only caution about going in summer is that friends told us there are huge midges ((i.e., mosquitos)) in the Highlands and around the islands in summer. We also went to Scotland in April and it was a nice time to visit. But fall there has a special place in my heart. And once I've seen the Highlands, I now understand why there is such a big Scottish-American presence in the Appalachians, especially in NC and VA. I hope you guys go! It's easier to travel with a newborn or baby than a toddler. Lol.
