I kept mentioning this thread from my previous BMB but never got around to starting it. I thought it was fun and useful.
The idea was to name ONE THING in each category, that you had on your previous registry and you would KEEP, TOSS, & ADD this time around if you were to do it again. If you stick to one item per category, it does make things easier to read. If you put a few, I won't blink an eye because there are just so many things, but try to refrain from a really long list or explanation. At the very least, make your explanation in a separate paragraph sort of like a TL;DR.
Here's mine to start:
KEEP: Rock N' Play TOSS: Diaper Genie ADD: Video Monitor
Met: September 2005Married: October 2008 DS: 09/2014
Mine is literally the same as anewadventure but I'll play nice and do a V2.
Keep: Nose Frida Toss: Bumbo seat (we got one as a hand-me-down, but I digress...) Add: Fischer Price Sit-Me-Up seat
that's a good point, it's ALSO helpful to post similarly to someone else because when 10 people say something is worthless, or awesome, it brings emphasis!
Met: September 2005Married: October 2008 DS: 09/2014
KEEP - RnP TOSS - Bouncer ADD - I want a highchair that attaches to the table, so we don't have a bulky chair taking up space or ruining our hardwood floors.
@mrsorigami swing?! really?! omg DS LIVED in his swing until he was too big to fit in it anymore! I would never dream of not having one lol
KEEP: stroller (we registered for a really expensive one and got it as a group gift) TOSS: bottles ADD:some sort of jumper, like a jolly jumper or activity jumper (got SO much use out of both of these things!)
KEEP: RnP (another vote here) TOSS: Bedding set, all you need is a couple crib sheets ADD: Halo Bassinet, my friend recommended this for post c/s recovery and it looks perfect!
I also agree with @mrsorigami the swing was never used! Already sold it in a garage sale years ago!
Yep! @kvacmak My dd hated the swing, but she loved the rocknplay, so we will just stick with that. I figure all that equipment wasn't really our thing anyway. But if another baby loves it then that is great!

SNIP
i almost put swing on mine for TOSS as well. in my experience, however, you want to have one for each baby - you'll find out RIGHT AWAY whether you have a "live and die by the swing" baby or a "IDGAF about the swing" baby. i had the latter. the swing was therefore annoying because it takes up SO MUCH SPACE. if you have the former, it'll be a lifesaver.
if you can borrow a swing instead of getting it new, do it. absolutely get one that plugs into the wall, not battery-only. get a swing that goes both "directions". the mamaroo is pretty amazing but not the same motion as a traditional swing.
Met: September 2005Married: October 2008 DS: 09/2014
Keep: nose frida (I can't tell you how often we use it, especially will allergies and winter upper respiratory stuff) Toss: one of those baby grooming kits ( you know the ones with brushes and nail clippers etc) Add: a baby wearer (ring sling or soft structured like the boba.)

TTC 1/2012 Diagnosed : unexplained infertility 6 rounds of IUI and a MC 2/2014, rainbow twins 4/2015 TTC #3 5/2016 Restarted Fertility tx IUI 2 rounds, baby girl 12/17
KEEP: Swaddle-me (velcro swaddles) TOSS: receiving blankets ADD: a wrap that I can use with a newborn (I really didn't like the infant insert for the Ergobaby 360)
Momma to Amelia Marie (7/14) and Austin Samuel (11/17). Adding baby (girl) #3 on 7/21
KEEP: Video monitor with multiple cameras (we still use it when we're watching tv in the basement after the kids go to bed) TOSS: I actually think I used everything between the two ADD: Rock N Play. I borrowed one with my 2nd and it was a lifesaver with his reflux. I wish I had it with my first. I snagged a new one on Prime Day though!
Keep: RnP Toss: PnP, the play yard was used a few times, but I did not like it as a bedside sleeper for either DS. Add: a white noise machine. (figured out white noise with DS and just used an app on my phone. Would prefer not to spend every nap time without my phone lol)
Can I ask a question for those who want a dock-a-tot? I've only recently seen/heard of these. And they seem pricey for what they are. I co slept with both of my boys so I doubt I will change course with this one, but is there a time frame these are considered safe for? Is it safe once baby can start rolling on their own? Both DS1 and DS2 were early rollers and would roll to their sides and sometimes to their belly on their own. What happens with these things when baby starts these milestones. I want one, but I'm not sure if I can justify $200 for a few months of use. Sell me on this people lol. Because I love his concept, especially for the early days.
@flowerpower5838@kaylawing@TigerCakes As a FTM, can I ask why you guys are "tossing" bumbo seats? I haven't heard much about them one way or another, but I do have one on my registry because it was a "recommended" item, so I'm curious.
@djd0404 the bumbo seat puts forces the baby to sit in a way that is bad for posture and development of proper muscles and sitting. there are definitely alternatives if you want to prop your baby up / confine him to one spot before he can sit on his own, although there are a lot of people that think you shouldn't force a kid to do something he's not developmentally ready for. HTH

That's really good to know, and makes sense now that you've said it. Deleted from my registry. Thanks!!
@djd0404, pretty much what @anewadventure said. I registered for one and received one at my shower. And after reading about it, it wasn't something I felt comfortable using. The few times I did try it, baby hated it anyway.
@djd0404 - in addition to what @anewadventure & @kaylawing said, I asked a few of my friends about it when DS was little... They all said their LOs only enjoyed it for MAX 30 min at a time, if that. It seemed like a big waste of money for such minimal use!
@ngarciabyu I also think they are ridiculously expensive! In some ways, it would make me feel better about co-sleeping, but other things I have read don't actually consider them safe. Their own website says, "
Always ensure that the DockATot® is placed fully supported on its back on a flat, firm, and stable surface.
The DockATot® Deluxe should not be used for unsupervised sleep" But they do apparently consider a non-inebriated adult sleeping with the baby to be "supervised" sleep. Still, I think some mattresses are too soft to be considered a "flat, firm, stable" surface.
It seems like it might be ok for co-sleeping if you have a firm mattress, but should not be used in baby's crib (not sure why you would). Also, dock a tot comes in different sizes, but the bigger size should not be used for infants (according to their own site), so they might outgrow it pretty quickly. See:
"Great question. Currently, there are no U.S. standards for in-bed co-sleepers such as Snuggle Nest or Dock-a-tot. This means that there are no safety regulations that products such as these need to meet. Now, that doesn’t mean they are unsafe it just means no one is watching (meaning government or other agencies that regulate consumer products) when it comes to whether these products are safe or not.
Things I like about in-bed sleepers? They allow parents a bit more peace of mind and perhaps a bit more safety than just having the kid in bed with them. It falls in line with that whole ‘planned bed sharing’ bit discussed above.
What I don’t like about them? Many of the products are quite small and your baby will outgrow it quickly. Meaning that they do not have a safe sleep space after 3 or 4 months (unless you buy another larger product). Many of the products also have fluffy or foam walls which does not fall in line with American Academy of Pediatrics safe sleep recommendations.
The idea of an in-bed sleeper is to give your baby their own protected sleep space while still keeping baby near. If you are searching for an in-bed sleeper, look for one with firm walls and with a tall enough wall height that the chance of getting a pillow or blanket over the wall is reduced. Also, look for one that will last your baby at least 6 months. After 6 months, the risk of SIDS and sleep death is greatly reduced." (From https://pregnantchicken.com/safe-sleep-aap/)
So, I cannot justify spending the money on one, personally. But we did very little co-sleeping and don't plan to with this babe either.
Married May 2014 DD born August 2016 Baby #2 due December 2017
@cait5413 thanks so much for all of that. It was very informative. I love the protected sleep space idea and those things look awfully cozy. But yeah I do worry about once baby gets a bit bigger and starts to move around on their own
Keep: Nose Frida, RnP, PnP, Bjorn Baby Bouncer - we got soooo much use out of this specific bouncer although it is much pricier than the fisher price ones. My boys loved it and it also doubled as a chair for bottle feeding, etc. Toss: Swing (although I kept it just in case this baby likes it) Add: The only thing I'm looking to add for this baby is a single stroller.
(Dipping in to posting after my intro and question last week!)
Keep: Another vote for rock and play. My daughter was obsessed and I think I died a little inside when she grew out of it. Toss: Baby bedding set (dust ruffle, quilt, ect...) We never used it and should have just bought a bunch of crib sheets instead Add: Wrap (probably a happy wrap)
@SoxGirl982 we have a happy wrap. i like it. we had a long and very informative baby wearing thread a few weeks ago. lord knows if the search function actually works - if not, you could probably just click back a page or two to find it!
Met: September 2005Married: October 2008 DS: 09/2014
Just wanted to add that we were given a Graco version of the RnP. It is basically identical, however DS would NOT use it. Finally I fished out the money for a RnP and he was in love! Annoying, but they love it! Lol
KEEP: swing, jumperoo TOSS bulky changing table ADD Rock N Play, video monitor
My list isn't that unique but I did find the changing table a big waste of space. We just changed DD wherever. All I really needed was a drawer for diapers and wipes.
@jekasi oh my, totally agree with you on tossing loveys, receiving blankets, bedding. Totally useless. With DD, we only used 2 out of a mountain of blankets and she ignored all the loveys.
Keep: SwaddleMe swaddles Toss: WubbaNub (it did not work for her at first, then when she could have used it, the paci was really too small for her / not the kind she liked. But I know this is a minority opinion!) Add: video monitor (I will say, our VTech audio monitor worked really well, but having 2 so close together, we just bought a video monitor with 2 cameras so we can keep an eye on both of them. So getting one in the first place would have saved a little $$$. Also, there were a couple times my husband WOKE ME UP because the baby had been sleeping for a long time and he wanted to know, did I think she was still alive? A video monitor might have prevented that. How is it that I didn't murder him? I don't know, ladies, I don't know. But I did make it very clear that if he was worried she was not alive, he could go creep in her room to see if she was breathing and only wake me up if she wasn't.)

djd0404 I am a little late to the party, but in addition to what the other ladies said by the time LO was sitting up well enough to use it his little fatty thighs were too fat to fit in the leg holes without squeezing. He just looked so uncomfortable while he was using it. We did have an older hand-me-down version so I don't know if they're like that now though. I think we sat him in it twice before it went to the baby stuff boneyard in the basement. Definitely look into the sit-me-up instead!
ETA: for reference for others, "it" is the bumbo seat
