TTC After a Loss

Baby lost at 12w 5d :(

So I lost my baby at 12w 5d on 16th June 2017. Id told everybody at work and annoyed it to Facebook so it was a really traumatic time for me. I finally ovulated again yesterday so I'm hoping to catch again 1st time even though it took 5 months the first time. Did anybody esle catch quickly after a loss?

Re: Baby lost at 12w 5d :(

  • I'm so sorry that happened to you.  I understand how horrible it is to unannounce.  When I lost my pregnancy in June, I had even told my boss.  I was so humiliated having to tell everyone nevermind, and deal with their well-intentioned pity.

To answer your question:  I have hung around loss forums for several years, and it is pretty commonly held wisdom that fertility is boosted for 3 months after loss.

  • oh I'm so sorry for your loss - how tragic and sad.  I've heard that fertility is boosted but it did not work for us - this is our 6 month TTC after loss le sigh...

I'm so sorry for your loss. I've had two losses and was very open about my second loss. In some ways it was very healing for me to be able to grieve publically but I know everyone is different.

After my first loss I got pregnant again two months after which resulted in a healthy baby. This second loss is taking much longer though. Unfortunately there's no steadfast rule on this... sending positive thoughts for you!
  • I've heard that fertility is boosted first few months after a MC, but not sure if that's actually true or not. Also, check with your doctor because with later losses you sometimes are benched longer than if you'd had a CP or earlier MMC. I've taken anywhere from 2-7 cycles to get PG again, but after 4 MC's, clearly... getting PG earlier does not always lead to the desired outcome.

    MC #1: D&C Oct 23, 2015 (7.5 weeks)
    MC #2: July 1, 2016 (5.5 weeks)
    MC #3: October 17, 2016 (CP)
    RE #1: RPL testing November 2016-January 2017
    MC #4: Feb. 28, 2017 (CP)
    RE #2: Additional RPL testing March-November 2017
    MC #5: January 2019 (6.5 weeks)

    RE #3: More testing 2023.
Egg Retrieval Sept/Oct 2023, 2 good embryos after PGT-A testing.
    Surgery for endometriosis January 2024
Lupron Depo March 2024.  Benched 3 months.

    FET #1: June 3, 2024 (failed)

Lupron Depo June 2024. Benched 3 months again before next FET.

    FET #2: September 2024 (failed)

    FET #3: December 2024 (failed)

  • So sorry for your loss. Not sure if its true that your fertility is increased after a loss or not. I have heard that myself and it's not true for me. I also heard you're more fertile after and HSG but mine was 9 months ago.

So sorry for your loss. Research has shown that women who miscarry may have heightened fertility following the loss and that those who conceive within 6 months of the loss (especially within 3 months) are generally more likely to carry a pregnancy to term. I think the caveat here is that these stats are probably more applicable to women who do not also have known fertility or genetic issues. I have been around TB for a long time and have seen women who get pregnant pretty quickly after a loss as well as those who haven't.

  • @MooFish2364- my HSG was also 9 months ago.  I think they tell you these things to make you feel more positive.

@khaysha92   Even if it takes you more than 6 months to get pregnant after a loss it doesn't mean you have any fertility issues.  I'm here with zero fertility issues on 6 month AL.
