GTKY: Am I Normal?

Re: GTKY: Am I Normal?

  • @Marley629 I don't usually like bacon in stuff because I must have my bacon completely crisp! I love it on a sandwich if it is crispy, but usually it's more limp, which is just gross to me.

  • I call it 'pop' not soda or whatever else people call it.

(I know this is a regional thing, but to some people it's really weird and I'm curious how many others call it that too!)

  • @MJDsquared I call it pop too.
  • I don't drink soda.  I mean I have (in college, when I needed something to mix with booze), but I never ever choose to drink a soda.

  • Mine is that I (gasp!) don't like bacon or chocolate. I also can't stand the way coffee smells. I get so tired of having to smell my coworkers' coffee breath (for real, eat a mint after drinking that stuff!)
  • @MJDsquared I call it pop, too!

  • @whiska that map is spot on. I'm in WI and between the Soda/Pop line! I use both terms interchangeably. :)

  • @anewadventure maybe "soft drink"? We tended to say Coke or soft drink growing up (in New Orleans), occasionally soda, NEVER pop!

    More soda-related fun:
In learning German, my husband has started referring to any lemon-lime soda/pop/fizz-bang as "Limonade" in his terrible American-German accent.  We never have soda/pop/coke/fizz-bang/soft drink at home, but he finds this language/culture quirk so amusing that he repeats it any applicable situation.  Lemonade, said in the normal way, is still only for what we'd recognize as lemonade in the States.

Slightly more on topic: The extended family sometimes calls soda "cola", which might fit into the Other category. But that usually only refers to dark colored varieties.

  • @dkizz82 That confuses me too. What do you say if you actually want a coke, coca-cola?

I want a Diet Coke. I really don't say Coke for everything. But it's well known in the south.

It's like this. "Hey I'm thirsty, let's get a Coke. What do you want?" Ummmm Diet Dr Pepper."  Haha.

I usuallyjust call it its name as opposed to soda
