  • How far along are you? Boy/Girl/ Team Green? 19 weeks. Team Green

How old are your other kids?
DD will be one next week!

Current challenges/concerns about being a STM or questions about things your children are going through now?  DD has another ear infection. (i actually think her last one just didn't clear up all the way; she had a double ear infection 10/10 for severity according to the doc, so I think this infection in her right ear is a relapse) She is on antibiotics 3 times a day and she does not like liking it. Trying to squirt it into the back of her throat did not work well. Offering it to her on a spoon or in a little cup worked for 1.5 doses. Now I am mixing it with a small amount of YoBaby yogurt, and that seems to be working so far. I also tried mixing it with formula and a little chocolate syrup--only worked for a couple sips, maybe because they flavored it grape and the combo did not work well. She does seem to be feeling better, though, so at least we didn't have the issue we had last time with antibiotics not working and allergic reactions!

Current joys/successes/or happy thoughts about being a STM : They delayed DD's transition to the ones room, and she has her shoes and her nap mat, and mama is feeling much calmer about it! The only thing I am unsure of is that she is supposed to transition next week, and her grandparents are coming to visit for her bday, so I am not sure how many days she'll actually be at daycare next week! But I'm sure it will work out. Thinking about her being in the ones room has also calmed me a bit about LO arriving, because they provide food, milk, and water, so prepping to drop her off will be easier and we won't have to feed her breakfast at home. DH will be dropping her off on his way to work when LO arrives, which will likely be around 7 am, so the easier prep will make that go more smoothly and less for me to worry about!

Rants/Raves/Randoms/Questions/ DH and I are getting a babysitter for DD tomorrow night! It is the first time she'll have been watched by someone other than a relative so we can go out (not counting daycare). Looking forward to dinner one on one. We are trying to do this once every week or two til baby arrives. Fingers crossed it goes well!

GTKY: Got any good book recommendations? (Does not have to be baby-related, but can be!)
The Nightingale, The Night Circus, The Coincidence of Coconut Cake (very fluffy/predictable, but enjoyable beach read), At the Water's Edge

    20 weeks! Girl!

How old are your other kids?

    DS is 18 months
Current challenges/concerns about being a STM or questions about things your children are going through now?
Well today DS decided 5:45 would be a good wake up time, and I worked evenings last night so didn't get to sleep til midnight... therefore there was definitely some screen time this morning while I tried to catch a few more winks! Luckily we just discovered The Magic School Bus on Netflix and he loves it, so I was able to snooze a bit longer while he watched it in my bed with me.

Current joys/successes/or happy thoughts about being a STM :
Starting to come around to this whole baby being a girl thing. I want to go shopping and buy something specifically for her today, to make it more real.

    Rants/Raves/Randoms/Questions/
Repeat u/s today as last week she wouldn't get her head out of my pelvis. Hopefully she cooperates this time!

GTKY: Got any good book recommendations? (Does not have to be baby-related, but can be!)
I'm a bit of a nerd and tend to read educational books lately - I love Move Your DNA by Katy Bowman.
Also thoroughly enjoyed Tina Fay Bossypants, Amy Peohlers book  (can't remember the title, but I'm pretty sure she only has 1) or anything by Chelsea Handler

    18 weeks tomorrow. Team Green!

How old are your other kids?

DS is 5.5, can't believe he's starting Kindergarten soon.

Current challenges/concerns about being a STM or questions about things your children are going through now?
We actually haven't told DS yet. I wanted to wait until after I hit 14 wks and then we had to play daycare roulette so the timing has been very bad. Thinking we'll do it this weekend.

Current joys/successes/or happy thoughts about being a STM :
We cloth diapered with DS and I am getting super excited about Fluff! We need to get almost nothing but I am still loving looking at Pinterest. So much cute stuff that I really won't buy.

    Rants/Raves/Randoms/Questions/
Finally getting relief from the humidity! Yesterday have felt like spring instead of a sauna.

GTKY: Got any good book recommendations? (Does not have to be baby-related, but can be!)
    Baby related:
Pushed by Jennifer Block and A thinking Woman's guide to a Better Birth by Henci Goer
NonBaby: Eat, Pray, Love by Elizabeth Gilbert and The Color of Water by James McBride

  • @cait5413  GL with the date! glad to hear her transition got pushed a smidge. i think it will go well for you guys but obviously i'm just making that up.

How far along are you? Boy/Girl/ Team Green?  21w 2d  BOY

How old are your other kids?
    DS is 2y 10mo

Current challenges/concerns about being a STM or questions about things your children are going through now?  Potty training still a thing. DS still states he does not want to poop on the potty and we aren't pushing him. Now the discussion is more about him not "holding it" because he is mentally stuck between the message of "I should poop on the potty" and "I want to poop in my diaper" so he decides to do neither, which is not good for him.

Current joys/successes/or happy thoughts about being a STM : DS is super excited now that we've told him about the new LO. He likes to kiss my belly and talk to the baby.

Rants/Raves/Randoms/Questions/ Ehhhh. Nothing right now. Still haven't started researching double strollers or video monitors so any and all opinions (likes OR dislikes) about these two topics would be great.

GTKY: Got any good book recommendations? (Does not have to be baby-related, but can be!)
I'm still horrified that there are people that haven't read Harry Potter. Just give in.
I'm a fantasy / sci-fi kind of gal. Currently re-reading the Stormlight Archive in advance of the third book release in November (Brandon Sanderson)

  • @anewadventure You and my hubby would get along! He loves Sanderson. We both love HP. We just got a Vtech video monitor on Prime day. The reviews were kind of mixed, but we have been very happy with the VTech audio monitor we have. It came with 2 cameras, but we only have the one set up in DD's room so far. It's working well (3 days so far ;)) Still on the fence about buying a double stroller, though Amazon has been running a really good deal on one of the Graco Click Connect ones.

@kvacmak I liked Bossypants better than Amy Poehler's book (I can see the cover in my head, but I am also blanking on the title), but I like them both!

How old are your other kids?
They turned 13 months old on Sunday

Current challenges/concerns about being a STM or questions about things your children are going through now?  Nothing to concerning at the moment... When do you break them of using a pacifier? One of my two takes a pacifier and the other sucks his thumb...

Current joys/successes/or happy thoughts about being a STM : They are learning so much every day it's so fun to watch. Currently they are starting to say words and its absolutely adorable!

Rants/Raves/Randoms/Questions/ I just had a bit of an anxiety attack the other day thinking that I'm halfway and not mentally ready for this to happen again quite so soon!  I feel like we just got into the groove with the twins!

GTKY: Got any good book recommendations? (Does not have to be baby-related, but can be!) Who has time to read?! I used to like to read, now I just want to go to sleep.

    My son is 6.

Current challenges/concerns about being a STM or questions about things your children are going through now?
My biggest concern is the age difference. I just desperately want them to be close.

Current joys/successes/or happy thoughts about being a STM :
It's finally starting to sink in that this might actually happen and we may be bringing home a healthy little girl. Makes my heart explode with joy.

  • @tmk0325 My current plan is to limit the paci to the crib and carseat once DD hits 1 (aka next week), and phase it out from there. I have read it is easier to get them off of it if you start around a year rather than later. I already don't give it to her much when we're at home and she's not in the crib (started phasing it out maybe a month ago), but her dad is more likely to scramble to find one if she starts fussing.

@thatlauragirl My mom and her brother have always been close, and they are probably at least 6 years apart (I'm not actually sure what the age gap is!) One thing that bonded them was having a middle sister to pick on (honestly--my mom was more of a tomboy and she and my uncle would band together against my aunt), but it is possible to have close siblings that are further apart in age. Good luck with the EKG, and I agree on GoT--I'm very interested to see where the actual books diverge from the HBO series if he ever actually finishes writing them!

How old are your other kids? Almost 4 and almost 6

Current challenges/concerns about being a STM or questions about things your children are going through now?
We need more room, so just trying to figure out moving versus adding on.

Current joys/successes/or happy thoughts about being a STM :
My little guy felt the baby kick this morning! I had been on a work trip and got home late last night. He climbed in our bed this morning and was missing my belly and laid his head on it. Boom - big kick!

    Rants/Raves/Randoms/Questions/:
I feel like my body is falling apart with this one. The inside of my left leg is one long varicose veins and even though I've been wearing compression tights, one just popped out ON MY BUTT. My pelvic floor is killing me after I run and now I have some kind of weird sciatic/piriformis pain. I don't know if it's having the 3rd or that I'm old, but my body is not happy.

GTKY: Got any good book recommendations?
I've been enjoying A Gentleman in Moscow way more than I thought I would.

@thatlauragirl I have a lot of siblings and the ones I am closest to are the ones I am furthest in age from. I think people romanticize closely spaced siblings too much.

@thatlauragirl  My sisters are 8 and 6 years older than me.  The one that is 6 years older is basically my best friend, we have been super close my entire life.  We even shared a room at one point.  We have done so many fun things together over the years and now that we're both adults and well into our marriages and own families, we still talk every day and plan to get together as much as we can.  We share pictures of our planner pages..hah!

I have a twin brother and I rarely ever speak to him or hear from him.  We get along just fine, just grew apart over the years and there's this separation thing right now.  Hopefully we will become close again but I am so thankful to have my sister.

so 6 years is no problem at all! :)

edited to add, my sister and i definitely have our ups and downs.  earlier on in this pregnancy i definitely was feeling like we weren't so close, and sometimes i do feel that way back and forth but we always end up close when it matters, if that makes sense.  lately we have been super close.  i think the back and forth is a normal part of sibling relationships.  we can drive each other crazy for sure!  just wanted to mention this, i know i have felt sad about my own daughter and how she will be 4.5 when this next child arrives, but i just need to remember how great things are with my own sister.

  • @thatlauragirl @mrsorigami my sister that's 6 years younger than me is my best friend too! We've gone on multiple trips together as adults, lived together, and we talk every single day. I butt heads too much with my sister that's 2 1/2 years younger than me and we def aren't as close.
