How far along are you and what is baby's sex (if you know)?
15 weeks, 4 days. Don't know yet but finding out soon!
Any appointments this week/last? How did it go?
We have an elective u/s this Friday to find out if we're having a boy or a girl! We were planning on waiting until the 20 week anatomy scan but we want to be able to tell my in-laws when we go up for vacation which is basically right when I turn 20 weeks and my doctor's office won't take me early so we won't have the anatomy scan until we get back around 21.5 weeks.
Have you started showing? Have you felt baby yet?
Yeah, showing a little bit although some of it is still bloat so my size varies by the day/time of day. No movement yet; not expecting anything for another few weeks so we'll see. My friend who is also a FTM started feeling movement around 16 weeks but she's a little smaller than I am.
Rants/Raves?
These freaking headaches can suck it. I had a week or two of relief and now they're starting to come back every day. I don't want to load up on pills but it's so hard to get any work done because looking at my monitor hurts.
Questions for FTM, STM+?
FTM - are you guys planning on taking any classes? STM - did you guys take any? If so, which were the most helpful and least helpful?
Right now we're planning on taking 5 class through our hospital (well, 4 for DH). Childbirth prep, Caring for Your Baby (which is basically baby basics, how to get through the first year, how to recognize illness, etc), Infant/Child CPR, Introducing your Newborn to your Pet, and Breastfeeding 101.
GTKY: What is your number one pet peeve? Ugh, I have SO many. Seriously, so many things bother me and I can't choose just one. Slow walkers, slow drivers, drivers who don't use blinkers, drivers who drive slow in the fast lane, commercials that don't make any sense (looking at you perfume/cologne commercials), mouth noises, people who don't clean up after their dogs, when my husband says "What?" after almost everything I say because he hasn't given his brain enough time to process what I said so then when I go to repeat myself for the billionth time he cuts me off to answer/respond to what I said the first time. Just to name a few
How far along are you and what is baby's sex (if you know)?
13 weeks, 2 days early prediction from my IS today says BOY!
Any appointments this week/last? How did it go?
I had one today that was pretty awesome, we got to see a lot on the US including the tech taking a guess on gender and I believe she is right!
Have you started showing? Have you felt baby yet?
Nope just gas wiggles and I'm a chubby mom-to-be so I see a little more belly but not enough for anyone else to see
Rants/Raves?
Don't get me started on my in-laws. I really do like them but since becoming pregnant they've driven me insane. Idk if they are crazier or just my hormones are whack.
Questions for FTM, STM+?
Any mamas switch jobs mid-pregnancy? I haven't gotten the job, just the interview but I really want to make a switch. Currently I'm a commissioned dog groomer; I enjoy it most the time but its painful, stressful not knowing what my paycheck will look like next week and we've had some issues with corporate changing things that make it hard to look forward to work. This job I'm interviewing for starts at a higher pay rate and is a desk job with my local city government which has a reputation for taking great care of employees. Do I disclose I'm pregnant? And how much of a nightmare is swapping insurance?
GTKY: What is your number one pet peeve? Right now I have crappy management on the brain soooooo managers who don't practice what they preach or give completely empty pep talks only to show their true colors the next day.
@gusgus14 I only took the main hospital tour for my 1st pregnancy and I wish I had taken a class like Caring for your Baby. Some things just were not instinctual for me, and I was so tired during the first few months that I wish I had more "training."
Even though I'm a STM, I'll probably be taking some classes this time. I'll definitely be doing a childbirth prep course (new hospital for me), Hypnobabies, and CPR (need a refresher and rules always change!)
FTM - are you guys planning on taking any classes?
Our local hospital's pregnancy classes teacher is one of the nicest people ever. Most of our town knows her through classes but I've done many a craft show with her and she's already sent me information on classes, I haven't picked any out yet (scheduling will play a part of that too) but for sure I will be taking some. I've spoken with other people who have taken her classes and they said that they are extremely pleased they did
@gusgus14 I definitely took some classes: baby basics and infant cpr at the hospital (great!), breastfeeding at the hospital (seriously awful with out dated information), breastfeeding at the local breastfeeding center (awesome!), hypnobabies (self study), independent childbirth class taught by my doula (fantastic!).
Depending on the type of childbirth yore trying for I'd be a little wary of hospital classes and would encourage you to look into independent classes taught by certified instructors. In my experience the hospital classes tend to focus on hospital protocol and norms, not necessarily pain management techniques or letting you know choices and options.
For my second I did the hypnobabies again and took a birth refresher course with my (different, we'd moved) doula. This time, I'll be doing hypnobabies, but unless my midwife recommends a specific childbirth class I have no plans to take another.
DS1: Nov. 2013 DS2: Jan. 2016 DS3: Dec. 2017 Baby #4 on the way!
How far along are you and what is baby's sex (if you know)?
14w 6d and Team Green!
Any appointments this week/last? How did it go?
Had an appointment last Thursday, went pretty well and was really quick since i didn't have any questions/concerns at the time other than is he/she still in there and doing okay? That question was answered pretty immediately when he brought out the Doppler, heart rate was 140
Have you started showing? Have you felt baby yet?
Haven't felt anything yet. Still wearing my same clothes and they don't feel as tight like they did a few weeks ago, kinda weird. Maybe bloat went away? Oh well, it's a mystery scooby doo.
Rants/Raves?
Still gagging & dry heaving in the early mornings and late at night...I really wish that would go away!
Questions for FTM, STM+?
For the past week or two, I feel like my hair has been falling out more. Maybe it's just in my mind or just coincidence, but the drain in the shower is clogging from all the hair and my bathroom counter has hair all over it from when i blow dry. Of course my paranoia got me googling, and it says it could be vitamin/mineral deficiency or hormone imbalance. Hmmm...I think I'll wait till my next appointment and bring it up if i'm still concerned at that point. Anyone else had some hair loss during pregnancy and know if it's something i should be really concerned about or just kinda normal?
GTKY: What is your number one pet peeve? People who drive less than 75 in the fast lane on the freeway. There is a reason why there are 4 or 5 other lanes, get out of the way! And, to add, I'm the jerk who never uses their turn signal, but in my defense, i feel like there are legitimate reasons to not use it when driving in LA. Maybe if i had learned to drive somewhere else i would use it, or if my parents and brother used theirs maybe i would have too...Oh well
@gusgus14 yes we plan to take classes! I haven't looked into the specifics but since I know close to nothing about babies (outside of medical stuff due to my job) I figured it can only help.
How far along are you and what is baby's sex (if you know)?
16w4d and we haven't found out yet if it's a boy or girl but hope to know soon!
Any appointments this week/last? How did it go?
We have an appointment tomorrow for follow up after having to go to the ER for cramping/bright red spotting last week. We have an unplanned ultrasound to ensure everything looks good still (it did in the ER, so FX!). Obviously I'm hoping that the babe is just healthy but I can't help thinking that we might get to find out the sex as a bonus if we are really lucky
Have you started showing? Have you felt baby yet?
im not noticeably showing but DH and I can tell. Waiting for that "pop" everything always talks about! Haven't felt the baby but I have no idea what it would feel like even if I had haha
Rants/Raves?
none this week!
GTKY: What is your number one pet peeve? It would have to be driving related (people driving slow in fast lane, people on their phones while driving) OR when people try to show me "hilarious" videos on their phones that I reallly don't care about that last > 30 seconds. I'm looking at you, DH.
@gusgus14 DH and I did take some classes, but not all of them. We took a Saturday crash course on child birth. This helped me to feel more relaxed, yet it stressed DH out. We also took a First Aid/CPR class which I'm glad we did. They mentioned febrile seizures in young children. My son has had 2 and honestly, because of that class, I knew exactly what it was and what to do. It is terrifying at first. We also had signed up for a nursing class, but didn't make it because I was sick. I really wish I had had that course or had read more about nursing. I figured the consultant would help me once baby was here. She did, but I was so exhausted and overwhelmed that I wish I had done my homework first. I also found out that he had a tongue tie contributing to our issues. I would have known more about this and what it was had I had gone to that class.
@gusgus14 both DH and I attended a 5 week childbirth class and a one evening breastfeeding class. Both were put on by the hospital and were truly great. DH learned so much and it was nice to have him there for the breastfeeding class so he would understand what I was going through to feed our child and how he could be supportive. DH does one mean swaddle!! I think it made him feel more comfortable with the whole process and I felt more prepared for what was to come. For me the best part was the content that showed how to care for baby when we got home, the different type of monitoring during childbirth (all of which were tried on me) and when the anesthesiologist showed exactly what the epidural looked like and how it was inserted.
@gilsam1 I actually found myself googling hairloss during pregnancy last night after pulling handfuls of hair out all day without effort. Everything I read said it happens for some women. Let us know what your OB says, my next appointment isnt for 4 more weeks.
@gusgus14 we took a hospital tour, a childbirth class, and a taking care of your infant class. The infant class was total BS. Thankfully it was free! Basically it was *TW "don't do this, or your baby will suffocate/strangle itself" end TW* for 2 hours. It wasn't really helpful for learning how yo change a diaper or give a bath, which is why DH wanted to take it in the first place.
The childbirth class was super informative. Along with how everything all works in your body to give birth, they had a whole section of the class dedicated to which pain relief methods they had available specific to our hospital, and what would happen if you needed a c-section or the NICU. They also showed the SOs some massage techniques to help ease contraction pain.
I don't have anything to really update this week but I do have a question for other FTM & STM... my parents live 3 hours south, my in laws live 6 hours north... when I go into labor, we have already said we will call them/text them if it's an unreasonable hour... my mom has already said she will come - be here when they are born and go home when we go home so we can settle in... she said she will come back when I want her to during my maternity leave to help. I haven't really talked these things through with my MiL... ideally, id love for them to be here when the babies come, then go home and come back when we're settled / have a few norms set... I have a very strong personality and stand up to my MIL and she doesn't take it well / doesn't listen or like to be told no... DH does stand up to her but sometimes I feel like it's not strong enough. I welcome advice because let's be honest I'm a first time mom of twins, I'm going to screw up.... but I also want to be able to screw up and learn. How do you gently tell her you'd rather her not stay? Should I just suck it up and have her stay immediately after?
@Mudge85 my husband doesn't have a good relationship with his mom and she thinks I'm the devil, so before DD was born, she offered to come stay for a couple of weeks or a month to help out. My husband just said thank you, and told her we would be fine without the help, and I thought she wouldn't even come to see DD in the hospital but she did. She even brought me flowers and pajamas. She was (and still is) very very cautious when I'm around as to not offend me or upset me. Hopefully your MIL will also be considerate, I mean postpartum hormone changes are real, and I know I would have lost it if MIL stayed with us after baby was born. Maybe you can say you'll try to handle things on your own and you'll let her know if you end up needing her help?
@Mudge85 my ILs live about 10 minutes away and were over almost every day after DD was born. We eventually had to tell them that we needed space to figure out how to function on our own with a newborn, and they did somewhat back off. I think if you address it early and let them know while you appreciate the help, you need to get used to your new normal as well.
@Mudge85 When I had DD, my IL and parents lived 3 hours away. MIL had told me it was the greatest experience being in the room with my SIL the year before. I just nicely said, it will only be DH and I in the room.
Both my parents and IL drove to make it to meet DD and stayed at our house while we were in the hospital. I told both sets of parents up front, that once we were discharged from the hospital I wanted to have some time to settle in as a family of 3. I was so scared of getting used to help and then drowning when it was gone. Everyone was great and fine with it bc the rule applied to everyone.
@gilsam1 I shed like crazy when I'm pregnant. Never thought to search why. I always assumed it was bc all the vitamins made my hair grow faster?
We took a childbirth class and a breastfeeding class at our local hospital. I thought both were great! They were put on by Lactation Consultants. I even reached out to one 5 months in when my supply dropped and received a rapid response! We will likely do one again because we are in a new state.
@gusgus14 STM here. Our hospital offered a full day course. The morning was all about childbirth and breastfeeding and the afternoon was infant care basics. The morning part was SUPER helpful, especially for DH who had no idea what he was getting in to...
@Mudge85 I would definitely tell your MIL right away what your plans are. DH and I NEEDED the time to figure out how to be parents and get to know DD before we started accepting help. Both my parents and my ILs met her a few hours after she was born and then waited for us to be ready for them to come. With my MIL it helped that she knew that that was the expectation for her as well as my own mom. I wasn't treating either side differently.
Thanks @agalvarado, @schaze, @Dani0329 & @crizz13 very much appreciate the input. I should add, that as far as MILs go, I'm pretty lucky and we have a very good relationship, I'm just fearful how this conversation will go over - I don't want to offend her but also think it's incredibly important for us to get a routine down. I think you guys are right though... I have to bring it up now.
@gusgus14 we're taking an Infant CPR Class & a Twins, Triplets & More class... I may take a separate childbirth class but I don't want to overwhelm my DH with classes.
So I may have kicked off this thread, but yesterday got away from me, so never got a chance to respond!
How far along are you and what is baby's sex (if you know)? 16 weeks 5 days. Hopefully finding out the sex within the next few weeks!
Any appointments this week/last? How did it go? Next appointment isn't until Monday.
Have you started showing? Have you felt baby yet? Oh yes, I'm definitely showing, but it isn't an obvious baby bump so I look more chubby than anything. I think I've felt baby. A few flutters/gas bubbles here and there. But they are sporadic and not obvious so I don't know for sure.
Rants/Raves? Rant - Just the usual work shenanigans... Raves - MH is seriously the best. Yesterday I was in a foul mood due to work shenanigans, and he was so awesomely supportive. I know I shouldn't take home work problems, but sometimes it is so hard!
Questions for FTM, STM+? Not this week
GTKY: What is your number one pet peeve? I find it super annoying when I'm in the grocery store, and people park their carts in the center of the lane so you can't move around them. I realize finding space to put the carts can be challenging, but at the very least put them to the side, so I can go around you.
@gusgus14 I'm planning on taking hypnobabies (self study) and a breastfeeding class. After reading through the various responses from other ladies, I am definitely considering adding in an infant CPR course.
@missblaze Just having lots of lower back discomfort, some stabbing pains all over and period like cramps. My OB told me it will ease up, But when? Hope it all does soon. Feels ok right now, but I'm also still having spotting as well. Sorry to post all of this on this board, wasn't sure where else it would fit in.
How far along are you and what is baby's sex (if you know)?
12w6d (I'm due 1-Feb so go between Jan/Feb board). I was hoping to find out sex today cuz I got the NIPT blood draw, but apparently it didnt have enough fetal fluid so I had to give more blood today. But definitely finding out!
Any appointments this week/last? How did it go?
My baby doctor today, heard a strong heartbeat and everything is coming up normal in all the blood/pee work! Also had a dentist appointment and she told me I can ask my insurance if they'll cover cleanings every 3 months because Obamacare/Medicare does that standard for pregnant women, so maybe my insurance will too. Who knew!
Have you started showing? Have you felt baby yet?
Don't think so, and def not lol.
Rants/Raves?
Just disappointed about not getting the NIPT results, but otherwise can't complain.
Questions for FTM, STM+?
Just found out DH will be gone for 2 months for work, during most of my 2nd tri. This is the easy part of the pregnancy hopefully, so anything I really have to worry about while he's gone besides moving something heavy?
GTKY: What is your number one pet peeve? I have a few, but the one that got me today: I line up my groceries so they're bagged in that order, so it annoys the heck out of me when the bagger just does what she wants messes it all up! @darkrose88 Since I was talking about the grocery, I also hate when people leave their cards all willy nilly! Be considerate!
@ottergirl81 My level of comfort during pregnancy waxes and wanes. If it's not one thing it's another. However, I know some people feel awesome. As long as your belly is stretching to accommodate LO, there is likely going to be some level of RLP and discomfort.
How far along are you and what is baby's sex (if you know)? 13w, 5d
Any appointments this week/last? How did it go?
Have an OB appt on Friday for a "quad" genetic screen. Need to do some more searching to see what that all entails
Have you started showing? Have you felt baby yet?
Not really, pants are getting a bit tighter. Havent felt baby yet
Rants/Raves?
Worked with a tricky kiddo at work today and now my back is killing me.
Questions for FTM, STM+?
Has anyone had any success with any ways to decrease a hypersensitive gag reflex? I'm supposedto go to the dentist Friday for a small filling and feeling nervous
GTKY: What is your number one pet peeve? Running late, although when I'm with DH it happens more than I'd like it to
@gusgus14 can't wait to hear your US Friday during the ticket change! I think we'll be taking a childbirth class, first time parents class, and a breastfeeding class
@gilsam1 from what I've read a lot of women experience either hair loss or thickening hair. I haven't really noticed much of a difference except I do think my hair is growing faster.
@sjb2215 So i had to go to the dentist at around 7 weeks and at that point i was having reaaaally bad nausea/gagging. The dentist told me to squeeze my hands into fists so that my finger nails dig into my skin. I know it sounds painful, but i think it did actually help. She said it seems to work for her pregnant patients to suppress the gagging reflex. Good luck and hope it's not too bad!!
@sjb2215 I had a dentist appointment last week for a small filling and the gag was real. I think just let the dentist know in advance your reflex is bad right now so they are prepared. But since it is small FX it won't take long. I think I was in and out in 15 mins.
How far along are you and what is baby's sex (if you know)? 16w, 1d. Don't know the sex, but will be finding out towards the end of August. :-)
Any appointments this week/last? How did it go? Had a genetics counsellor appointment. It went amazing! My NIPT came back 2x with no results...so I had a big freak out and had quad screening (SIPS) and the NT scan...all looks good. All news good. Very relieved. NIPT "inconclusive" results were likely lab error. Have an appointment with OB this Wednesday. Can't wait to hear baby's heart again!
Have you started showing? Have you felt baby yet? I know I'm showing, but not sure if others know it. Ha. I think I'm feeling the baby today! Feels like gas (kinda weird) in lower abdomen area.
Rants/Raves? Not really today.
Questions for FTM, STM+? Nope, not today.
GTKY: What is your number one pet peeve? I have so many. Today though I'm choosing people texting and walking or driving at the same time. There is no text that important. I hate it so much.
