  • @auntieraindrop that's a good reason for sure.

  • @sjb2215 I'm neutral on Friday weddings, but I think it's annoying when people get married on some three day weekends, like 4th of July or Labor Day. If they're okay having lower attendance, I don't really care. But I think it's like a destination wedding, and couples should accept that people may not make it and be truly okay with it. A friend of mine got married on the 4th and didn't even check with her VIPs if that date mattered. It didn't for me, but we get such little time off in this country and it messed up a lot of people's summer travel plans.

My U/O is that I'm kind of in love with morning wedding ceremonies with a big boozy brunch after. I totally would have done that if DH and I weren't huge dancers. Vows in the morning mist? Swoon.
  • @sjb2215 - ditto. My brother is getting married on a Friday in a few months and the rehearsal is on Thursday and we have to travel for it which means we have to take 2 days off work. Not a big deal for DH since he has unlimited PTO but I don't and I get no maternity leave so that's 2 more days I could be staying home or 2 flex days to get me through between March and Christmas next year without going completely insane.
  • Time out. Unlimited PTO, @gusgus14? What does DH do? And can I have his job??
  • @cyanope - He just started working for a marketing firm a couple of months ago. He only got 2 weeks at his last job which we almost always had to use for holiday travel so it's nice that he has more but I'm insanely jealous! It will be nice when the baby comes though because he's going to take off 4 of the 6 weeks I'll be off.

There are only 2 people at the office here and they work in a co-work space but the headquarters is in a super cool building and they have beer and cold brew coffee on tap. They are also super flexible with work hours and they get monthly bonuses on top of their salary if they hit a certain number of billable hours.
  • I prefer Saturday night weddings, but  I get cutting costs. I have a list of things that should get cut before you move the day though, lol. Like don't spend $20k on a photo/videographer who takes over the ceremony and the reception to basically make a rehearsed show, but make everyone take off from work to save money...
  •  Ha. We're having a Friday wedding. Well. We're supposed to be having a Friday wedding next year. We decided to have a small wedding this year, have a baby between and then have the big wedding next year. But gah. I can't save for it and there is no way we can save after having her. So I'm not sure what we're going to do. Also, in Nashville all the venues are insanely expensive now that it's getting super popular, even on Fridays. But for us, the family/friends that would be coming would be traveling since none of our family is from here so they were/are planning to make it a mini trip. We did talk to them before planning the date.

  • We had a Friday wedding. It was either a Friday in summer or a Saturday in September, and for the out of town family they actually preferred the Friday to make a trip out of it and wouldn't have come in September. We had our ceremony as late in the afternoon as possible and made it clear through word of mouth we didn't expect people to book off work for the (20 minute) ceremony if they couldn't/didn't want to, our priority was celebrating with everyone at the reception. Yes I know the vows are the whole "point", but we were ok with the compromise. Costs were exactly the same across the board for a Friday vs Saturday.
  • We also had a Friday wedding. It was so much cheaper! DH was in his last month of college at the time, so we wanted the whole weekend together before he had to go back to school Monday morning. We did a delayed honeymoon too, which I don't regret at all!
  • We had a Friday wedding too, and since 90% of our guests were a minimum 3 hour plane ride away (most more!) it was going to basically be a "destination" wedding no matter how we sliced it.

  • Team Friday wedding! We just had family and close friends at our morning ceremony, and then had an evening reception (at a different location) with the 200 guests. I wanted an intimate ceremony, but a big party...so that's what we did. I didn't regret it at all. And, it's actually kind of a common practice in my world.
  • I appreciate hearing everyone's opinions on Friday weddings and how it's also more common than I had thought. To each their own!
