Re: High Risk Mommas 7/20

  • 1. How far along are you? Do you know what you're having, boy, girl, team green? 14+6, team finding out on 9/1!

    2. Do you have any appointments or extra testing this week? Nothing for a couple weeks. Since my BP was normal at my first OB appointment, they are taking a wait and see approach for extra monitoring .

    3. How are you doing emotionally? Current struggles for this week? Still pretty good, I feel like I'm doing everything I can do to help with the BP (eating well, exercise, etc.) and I'm hoping that if it does spike, I can feel somewhat at peace that I did everything I could to stay healthy.

    4. Miscellaneous: please share anything else that is on your heart and mind about being high risk I've been thinking a lot about labor and actually having this baby and I'm really hoping I get to experience my body going into labor on its own this time.

    5. GTKY: What is your all time favorite meal and dessert? Favorite (homemade) meal would probably be peanut noodles. Dessert definitely cheesecake!

  • 1. How far along are you? Do you know what you're having, boy, girl, team green?
    15 weeks today!  Team green

    2. Do you have any appointments or extra testing this week?
No appts this week- but OB and high-risk appt next week.

    3. How are you doing emotionally? Current struggles for this week?
Emotionally, doing great. Except for a little anxiety after my 1st appt with high-risk doctor last week. She seems to be pushing me towards the Makena progestin shot.  I feel as "high risk" goes, I'm actually on the low end: DS was born at 35 weeks (early membrane rupture but not full-blown labor), second DS born at full term and LEEP procedure was 9 years ago.  But again, she's the expert. So I'm trying to remain open-minded and will ask more questions at my appt next week and hope to learn more after she actually performs transvaginal US and checks out my cervix.

    4. Miscellaneous: please share anything else that is on your heart and mind about being high risk
See #3 :)  I also know several people who had very healthy, full-term pregnancies after a LEEP.  So that's making me feel a little better.  Trying to remind myself to just take things week by week.

    5. GTKY: What is your all time favorite meal and dessert?
    Taco pizza and cheesecake

  • @ReadytoRun77 I also feel on the "low end" of high risk, but my NP said really, it all gets kind of lumped together. Just because my BP spiked once with DD (and not even scary high, either), I'm put on the same level as those with extremely high BP.

Can you get a second opinion on the Makena? I guess I don't know too much about it, but is it something that could wait so you can think about it more?
  • @schaze I guess it's always better to be safe, than sorry! I do appreciate the extra checkups and ultrasounds. I guess I haven't thought about a 2nd opinion.  The perinatologist I'm seeing is very well respected in town. My main question is why my friend who 1. Is only 2 years younger than me (38), 2.Also has a history of LEEP. 3. and had a very pre-term baby at 28 weeks (preeclampsia) ... was not recommended (nor even had mentioned to her) the Makena shots.  Needless to say, I have a long list of questions for next visit!

  • 1. How far along are you? Do you know what you're having, boy, girl, team green? 12 wks

    2. Do you have any appointments or extra testing this week? Not this week.

    3. How are you doing emotionally? Current struggles for this week? Aside from GD and HBP, I have a dermoid cyst bigger than a golf ball in one of my ovaries. The doctor will check on it but if it grows too much or if I have any other complications, they will cut me and take it out.

It's been causing me discomfort (not pain) but it's messing with my head! I think it's because I know it won't just disappear, I will need to have some sort of surgery to get it out, either during or after pregnancy. And until then, it's just growing and growing! It was causing me a lot of anxiety earlier this week. I've had one removed via laparoscopy but if I have it removed while pregnant, it will be a full blown incision. I've been thinking about who will care for DD if I'm recovering because my husband is a full time student and all that.

    4. Miscellaneous: please share anything else that is on your heart and mind about being high risk I've been sticking to my GD diet and I've lost 9 lbs! Hopefully I don't get crazy cravings later on because it's going to be hard to stick to it.

    5. GTKY: What is your all time favorite meal and dessert?  A Thanksgiving meal and pie  :p I have a thing for food displayed like a banquet, like plates and plates of food and entire turkeys or ham haha  <3<3<3
  • @ReadytoRun77 that's right, I think I remember you saying that in a different thread. That's really odd, I'm not sure if it'd be helpful to mention that to your doc at the next appt and see what the difference between you and your friend might be?

@agalvarado good for you! I'm in awe of ladies who have GD, it sounds difficult to stick to the diet!
  • 1. How far along are you? Do you know what you're having, boy, girl, team green?
15 weeks and 5 days. We are having a little boy. We named him Elijah, but haven't picked a middle name yet.

    2. Do you have any appointments or extra testing this week?
Regular OB visit tomorrow to check on me and make sure Elijah's heart is still beating.

    3. How are you doing emotionally? Current struggles for this week?
I have been much better this week, but of course, as appointment approaches, I get more and more nervous. Just hoping the little guy is still fighting in there.

    4. Miscellaneous: please share anything else that is on your heart and mind about being high risk
I just constantly wish I had started trying when I was younger. I know that for some of my issues age really has nothing to do with it, but now I feel like if this one doesn't make it, I am seriously running out of time. We can't afford things like IVF and constantly worry that I am just going to run out of time and options. I tried to convince my now husband to start trying when I turned 35, but we weren't married yet and considering that he already had one child out of wedlock, he really wanted to do things "the right way" this time. He is 5 years younger than me and a man,so I just don't think he understood how difficult it could actually be the older I get.

    5. GTKY: What is your all time favorite meal and dessert?
Ummm I love all food, so this is really hard for me, but probably a surf and turf meal with grilled shrimp and a small but juicy steak with a baked potato and steamed veggies is my absolute favorite. For desert, cherry pie a la mode.

  • I don't really have anything new so I'm not gonna check in this week...

@schaze I totally am with you on the I hope to labor with out augmentation this time. But at the same time the thought scares the crap out of me. Probably the same worries as any FTM with labor.

@ReadytoRun77 I think it's a good idea that you go in there and ask all the questions you want. Seems a little odd that they would want the shot this time and not with your last pregnancy.

@agalvarado that sounds painful. I hope you don't have to have the surgery. Good job on the weight loss btw!!

@aimsforyou2014 hang I'm there momma. I know it is hard not to go down the road of what if and blaming yourself.
  • @aimsforyou2014 I love the name Elijah! Also, it can be so difficult to be a woman and have to deal with our biological clock running out of time. Hang in there, I'll be thinking about you and sending you and baby Elijah love  <3<3<3<3
  • @aimsforyou2014 hugs  <3 you'll be in my thoughts!
  • 1. How far along are you? Do you know what you're having, boy, girl, team green?
13+4. We are team "Don't Know Yet, but Planning to Find Out"

    2. Do you have any appointments or extra testing this week?
Nothing this week, except that I have to go drop off paperwork for my FMLA leave today. Not having any complications right now that keep me out of work, but my job has a rigid attendance policy so we want to have it set up in advance.

    3. How are you doing emotionally? Current struggles for this week?
I'm having really bad mood swings. I thought it was sort of a caricature of pregnant women going from tears to screaming mad to horny, but no. That's what my evenings are like. Ha.

    4. Miscellaneous: please share anything else that is on your heart and mind about being high risk
I really wish my blood pressure would behave. It's super high in the mornings, then after I take my meds it crashes too low and I get dizzy and sick. I think I'm stressing about the readings, because it's been borderline high every time in the doctor's office, even when it was low-normal before I go in. So they don't want to change my meds at this time. It's frustrating. :(

    5. GTKY: What is your all time favorite meal and dessert?
Oh man, I dunno about all time, but I'm really hungry for pork tenderloin cooked in the crock pot with apples and onions and sage. /drool For dessert, I love chocolate cream pie.
  • 1. How far along are you? Do you know what you're having, boy, girl, team green? 14+1 and we are having a boy

    2. Do you have any appointments or extra testing this week? I had an appointment with a genetic counselor. We found out just how high risk we are now, which is really scary. The cystic hygroma in addition to the down syndrome diagnosis makes it around 35-50% of miscarriage or stillbirth, at any point in my pregnancy, no matter how far along I am. So that means just constant worry until this baby actually gets here. Dr. is worried it will progress to hydrops, which makes everything even worse. Next appointment is scheduled 2 weeks from now! That's 3 weeks in between dr. appointments where I actually get to see/hear the heart beat.

    3. How are you doing emotionally? Current struggles for this week? I've been way better since digesting everything, but still a big mess. We have only told our parents, but a lot of our friends know about me being pregnant. It's hard acting happy & everything's fine about being pregnant around them. The main feeling I've been having I think is just worried. Every time I think about how I'm going to tell my close friends about what's going on, I start crying. I'm hoping to tell more people and at least my brothers by this weekend.

    4. Miscellaneous: please share anything else that is on your heart and mind about being high risk I have accepted the diagnosis of down syndrome, and I'm even getting a little excited about having a sweet boy with down syndrome. I'm a child therapist and have worked with several kids with down syndrome in the past, so I know how amazing these kids can be. I'm absolutely not prepared for the high chance of miscarriage or heart defects though.

    5. GTKY: What is your all time favorite meal and dessert? A burrito and some flan. My favorite Mexican place in town is closing though :(
