@bvoisey I bet she's not exaggerating! I had at least 30 in the room when I delivered my twins at a teaching hospital. There was a NICU team for each baby (a total of ten, not including the students). There was a team for anesthesia in case I needed an epidural (6-7 including students) then there were three one, three residents and a gaggle of students just watching. Apparently it had been years since someone vaginally delivered twins. ETA I forgot about all the nurses, I was completely surrounded by nurses!
My mom went in for an appointment at 35 weeks and told the doctor she thought she was in labor. The doctor didn't even check her and just told her she had a ways to go yet and make another appointment for the following week. Mom left the clinic and went to McDonald's for a Big Mac where her water broke and the employees called an ambulance for her, which she refused to take because she couldn't get a hold of my dad at work. She somehow convinced them to go go find my dad at work (on an army base 10 minutes away where he was goofing off with friends joy riding in a tank which he was not supposed to be doing) meanwhile my mom was on the floor in McDonalds refusing care. My dad shows up, they get to the hospital and i was born within minutes with an emergency c-section (she had 2 prior c-sections and wasn't allowed to try for vbac). The total time from her appointment time to my birth was reportedly 2 hours and the joke is that I was 2 minutes from being born in McDonald's. My dad always said he was thankful his bosses "forgot" about his joyriding while he was on paternity leave and he never got in too much trouble for it!
I was born in Beeville, Texas (population 10,000 lol) in a Navy Hospital, my Dad was stationed there after Hawaii. Go figure, I get to be born in lil ol country Beeville rather than the place I was conceived which was Ewa Beach, Hawaii (island of Oahu, another Naval Base)! Yea not cool to begin with.
My mom had me at full term and I was breeched so they had to do a c-section on her. The rough part for mom was after they stitched her back up she had an infection so severe that they had to transport her from the Naval hospital to a larger public hospital in San Antonio. Apparently they said it was a real bad infection and it was life or death situation.
So I was released to go home but mom was being sent to San Antonio. My parents decided for me to stay with a very close navy family friend of theirs while Dad accompanied mom to San Antonio. Due to the separation between Mom and I for that 1-1.5 week time span, I was drinking off of formula and and not breastfed.
Up to this day my mom talks about how hard of a time she had with me and it being a nightmare. She also talks about how with the military they only got one sonogram during her entire pregnancy and wishes she gave birth in Hawaii than Texas lol. I think that's why she doesn't like Texas due to this not so fun episode and says she'll never move back there. HAhha.
Yeah I put my mom through some rough times, sorry mom! But I hope I made it up by giving her "babies" aka my 2 yo son and soon to be girl.
