Baby Names

Romantic feminine middle name for Brett.

So I'm crushing on Brett for my baby girl coming in November. I know Brett is a big time boys name but I like the boy names on girls trend. I grew up as Alex.

Anyway I would definitely pair Brett with a much more feminine middle name. I'm thinking longer like three syllables. Any suggestions? I appreciate your help and opinions! Sister's middle name is Juliet.

Re: Romantic feminine middle name for Brett.

  • I'll be honest, feminine and romantic are not words I associate with Brett. Brett's are like Chad's, they are born as fully grown douchey fratboys, able to shotgun cheap, shitty beer and a fully unwarranted sense of entitlement.

It's also a very harsh name, being a single syllable and ending in t, so it's flow is almost always going to be choppy and abrupt.

  • I agree Brett is really hard to push on a girl even with a middle name since that's not a daily usage.

I would suggest Britta as a similar name to use

If you're looking for feminine alternatives to Brett, I'd suggest Britt or Brynn. If you just want middle name suggestions, I like

    Brett Amelia
    Brett Samantha
    Brett Jacqueline
    Brett Elizabeth
    Brett Genevieve
    Brett Isadora
    Brett Francesca
    Brett Gwendolyn
    Brett Victoria
    Brett Olivia
    Brett Natalia
  • Perhaps rhyming softens the name?

    Brett Suzette
    Brett Antoinette

  • Sorry, But no matter how feminin you make the middle name, your daughter will be mistaken for a boy. The only way you would possibly get away without the confusion is if you call her by Brett -female middle name as the whole 1st name.

Very sad that you give your first daughter a beautiful name and now you want to give your second daughter a manly name. It almost seems as if you wanted a boy but didn't.

    Brett Josephine
    Brett lillian
    Brett Christina

Her first daughter has Juliet as a middle but she didn't tell us the first name. OP would you share that? I agree if the first daughter has a very feminine name, it is odd to go with Brett for the next girl, but if both have boy names and you are set on Brett for #2, I think it is good that you are realizing she needs a feminine middle name. If she grows up to hate Brett she can always go by the middle.

I'm not a fan of boy names on girls but I don't like to bash people's choices once they have already been decided either.
  • I know a female named Brett. She does get mistaken for a boy but she seems fine with it and people figure it out.

  • I'm just going to suggest Bettina in lieu of Brett in the FN spot.

With Nova I'd definitely assume that Brett is a boy. If you are dead set on Brett, I like pps suggestions of Brett Ophelia best.

Are you open to other first name suggestions? I think your second DD would draw the short end of the stick, especially with big sis Nova Juliet.

    How about:
    Wren
    Adair
    Arden
    Sloane
    Lou
    Frances
    Olive

  • Elizabeth!
  • With a sibling named Nova Juliet I think you DD2 deserves a cool name too not a boy name that isn't remotely unisex. Do you have others on your list or open to suggestions similar to Nova?

  • Nova is just so much cooler than Brett!

    Maybe something from here?

As pp's have said, I think Brett is an odd choice after Nova. But if you are stuck on Brett, I think a middle name that starts with O or A work best to soften the sound a bit.

Other FN suggestioms, if you're open to them:
    Bette
    Bree
    Brynn
    Belle
    Portia
    Callista
    Pandora
    Halley (like the comet)
    Astrid
    Aurora
    Cressida
    Nysa
    Rey
    Bernette
    Beda
    Belka
    Blix
    Briony

ETA I think that a Blix and Nova sound like an awesome sibset. Blix is Swedish and means joy.

  • DH and I both love Brett for a girl, inspired by Brett Ashley of The Sun Also Rises.  We would have used it, but unfortunately I have an awful relative by marriage named Brett, and I couldn't get past that association.

I like a lot of the middle name suggestions you've gotten. Especially Brett Elizabeth. And names ending in -a. Brett Andrea, Brett Alexandra, Brett Victoria, etc.
  • I went to school with a female Brett and she was never mistaken for a boy. I don't know what her middle name is - but don't let the negativity on this post deter you! I think it's beautiful. I love it and hope you find a good middle name pairing.
  • I liked the suggestions Brett Genevieve and Brett Victoria.
  • I know a Brettlyn that you could nn to Brett...

  • I know a female Brett. It's not a name I'd pick, but I like it and she pulls it off. Plus, Brett isn't a common name for boys anymore, so I think that makes it more acceptable. Olivia, Lorelei, Rosalie?
