Hello, let me introduce myself first..
For the first 30 years of my life, everything was smooth and worry-free. I was my parents’ most beloved child, found my true love in college, and happily married him after graduation.
At work, I was my boss’s most valued employee. Whenever I was in charge of a project, colleagues would inevitably say, “Oh, then I’m totally at ease.” I was constantly named “Employee of the Year,” with generous bonuses every year.
Later, I started my own business. Within just three months, I had broken into the market and started making money. By the fifth month, I was earning twice my previous salary. Growth was steady month after month. Right when the business needed more hands, I serendipitously met an amazing partner, and the company reached a whole new level.
Really, it seemed like at every step, whatever I needed, a pair of hands would always place it right in front of me, just in time.
My Two Girls: Ellie & Mia
Meet Ellie, My Firstborn
In 2020, my husband and I decided to have a child. After trying for over a year, we finally got the news in 2021 that a little one was on the way. In 2022, we welcomed our first child, Ellie. She made me a mother.
She is utterly adorable—big eyes, rosy skin, chubby little hands. Every time I look at her, I can’t help but give her a kiss. She is pure joy, and I love her more each day.
But as a first-time mom, I faced unprecedented difficulties. The postpartum tearing wouldn’t heal, and the pain was excruciating. Clogged milk ducts made my breasts hard as rocks. The severe sleep deprivation… And what was even more crushing was that, with zero parenting experience, I was clueless when faced with her unexplained wailing, night terrors, refusal to nurse, constipation, diarrhea, fevers… I desperately searched online, longing for one accurate, truly useful answer!
It was during this time that I thought, once I make it through this “dark” path, I must leave a light on for other new moms.
And Then Came Mia
Ellie had just turned one when I got pregnant again. In 2024, we welcomed our second daughter, Mia.
Completely different from Ellie, Mia is a great eater and sleeper. Although she had her fussy moments in the first two months, starting almost from month three, she became super easygoing. She feeds on schedule, gradually sleeps through the night, loves her solid foods, and adapted quickly when I had to stop breastfeeding due to mastitis.
This made me realize just how vastly different babies can be! It made me even more determined to write about my experiences.
Why I Had to Start This Blog
The Catalyst: A Life Pivoted
After Mia was born, my business also began to decline sharply. I had no choice but to close it and become a full-time mom. My work no longer involves Excel and Word, but instead revolves around changing diapers, washing bottles, making baby food, and managing household chores…
This has been a monumental challenge for me. All my past achievements seem irrelevant now. Managing two young children has brought me a sense of frustration I’ve never known before.
The Daily Reality
They are always fighting over things. When one is in my arms, the other immediately demands to be held too. When I try to cook, Ellie wants me to read her a book. When I attempt to load the washing machine, Mia has a diaper blowout, and I must drop everything to change her…
By the time I finish all that, I see the cup of hot coffee on the table has gone cold again. And it’s not until evening that I remember, “Oh my goodness, the clothes are still in the hamper, unwashed!”
Of course, being a mom is filled with happiness, but that doesn’t negate how hard it is.
My Promise to You
Because I’ve walked this path myself, I won’t just tell you how joyful motherhood is, like many websites do. I want to share my real, unfiltered experiences so every new mom can find a “companion” here.
I want to tell you: you are not alone. What you’re going through, I’ve been there too. Your breakdowns, your helplessness, your moments of losing control—I’ve had them all. You don’t need to feel guilty. This is just a small, necessary stretch of the journey for every mom.
My Hope for This Space
I really want to share my parenting experiences—not just the warm, glowing moments, but to honestly document the pitfalls I’ve stumbled into, the tears I’ve shed, and the “survival wisdom” I’ve scraped together in utter exhaustion.
The Goal: A Mom’s Toolkit
I hope this blog becomes a “mom’s toolkit,” filled not with vague theories, but with:
- Practical Tips: Like how to quickly figure out why a baby is crying, tried-and-true methods for dealing with clogged ducts, or how to efficiently manage the daily grind with twins (or two under two) solo.
- Pitfall Avoidance Guides: Sharing the baby products I regret buying the most, and those “game-changer” parenting hacks. Letting you know which parenting anxieties you can let go of, and which principles are worth holding onto.
- A Community for Moms: I hope my stories connect me with more moms like you. We can cheer each other on in the comments, share our own tricks, turning the storms we face alone into a journey we walk together.
The Bigger Vision
My previous career taught me to analyze data, solve problems, and optimize processes. Now, I’m applying all those skills to this new “position” of Mom. I want to prove that a mom’s value is absolutely not confined to the home. The mindset, resilience, and creativity we built in our careers can shine just as brightly—perhaps even brighter—in this more complex, long-term “project” of raising humans, and can even be transformed into a force that helps others.
My hope is simple: that every mom who opens this blog can let out a sigh of relief and say, “So it’s not just me.” Then, she can find a bit of practical info, a dose of comforting solidarity, and return to her sweet, chaotic mom-life with a little more confidence and a little less weight on her shoulders.
This road? Let’s walk it together.

I haven't been feeling so bad but I've taken it really really easy. 20 eggs is a LOT too- a lot more than I had! - so maybe your ovaries need extra rest. Good for you for checking up on it and I hope you feel better soon!
@helloworld9 20 eggs! That's great news! Take care of yourself and drink lots of electrolytes.
@funkykey that's a great number!
@quinnf2017 Welcome! I just gave up on trying not to obsess, ha ha
@Bababatty I was told no running but that I could bike. I commute to work and I think I will continue to do so as long as I feel ok.
@baker+RN good luck on ER day!
AFM - On Thursday I got my suppression check and my cyst was smaller (1cm). The hormones were fine so they let me go ahead. I started dexamethasone on friday and stims on saturday. I just returned from blood work check and I am now waiting to see if everything is going according to plan.

@baker+RN - congratulations! Rest up!
AFM: So far, our little embryos seem to be doing fine. We'll know for sure how things are on Thursday - they said they'll start counting them on Wednesday, but if some are promising and look like they need more time, we'll wait. I'm expecting to lose some, but I'm optimistic that we'll have a couple make it to blast!
I'm on a long protocol, and today was my down regulation check. I am officially down regulated and ready to get started! I start stims on Thursday. I feel like it's already been a crazy long cycle. I can't wait to get started. I'll be on 150iu of Gonal-F and 150iu of Menopur, but those doses seem low to me. Fingers crossed for lots of follicles!!
I had friends in town over the weekend so I've been away. It's really great to see all these big numbers! I hope all of you get tons of embabies and you start feeling better soon.
Welcome @quinnf2017 and @sleepyrn
@dwmmwd A new car is a great little distraction through this process! Something shiny lol.
AFM, I'm on day 10 of stims and it looks like I may have 2 to 3 more days. My Gonal-F was increased again so I had to order more. Grrrr! I knew I was going to be a slow grower but I guess it could be worse. I have 12 follies between 16 and 9mm so good that they're relatively close in size. Now to daily monitoring from here until trigger.

@megmac2010 someone had posted a page back that they'd found something detailing what hormone levels should be, expected ranges during stims. Maybe they could post a link? Was it @allycheer00? I can't remember!
@allycheer00 I also ordered extra gonal-f for slow to rise e2 - but slow to rise is better than rising too fast. I have 2 extra pens now ugh. Btw - there is more than 300IU in each pen, my Pharmacy and nurse told me. They're purposefully slightly overfilled so even after you've given yourself the total 300IU from the pen, dial up your scheduled dose and see if you get any extra out of it before throwing it away. It's like $1/IU!

Lots of activity since I was last on. Been busy dealing with running errands and making jeans the past couple days.
@baker+RN great news on the numbers. Take care of yourself. Try some tylenol. I've never done well with pain killers either.
@allycheer00 sorry about having to order more meds. But after my cycle was nearly cancelled last time, I think anytime things are still moving along in a positive direction, that's success. At least they're all growing together. That's great.
@megmac2010 I'm also on 150 of the menopur. And I think around that of follistim, so seems normal to me. My husband handles the meds, so I actually can't even recall how much at the moment. I just know it all hurts.
@helloworld9 I really think it's like everything else with this whole process. Everyone is different- different amounts of meds, different responses, etc. So I think how people respond will be different. My last ER was super easy, but who knows next time.
AFM, another monitoring appt tomorrow. Hoping those follies have grown. Oh and I finished my jeans. But I'm really annoyed with myself bc I did a nice job on them but managed to put a hole in the front. So I'm making another pair. But for a little non-ivf distraction, here's a picture.

AFM IVF training class on Thursday and then I'm about 90% certain we'll start our IVF cycle this weekend. I've really enjoyed this month break, but I'm actually getting excited to start the cycle. Probably the first time in two years I've been happy for AF to come--although she'll hold off until at least Friday if she knows what's good for her.
AFM- Got the call from the lab today with an update. Update: of the 16 eggs collected yesterday, 15 were mature and underwent ICSI. Of the 15, 7 fertilized to 2pn stage today. Hoping they can all make it to blast stage so we can do PGS testing, at which point I think it would be a frozen transfer? I was thinking it was fresh but I don't think that's possible with PGS turn around time. 7 is less than ideal, but it's a lot more than we expected going into this, considering we didn't even know if DH had sperm in the first place. So trying to stay positive! DH is starting to allow himself to feel hopeful and excited (if you recall, he tends to be more pragmatic, cautious), and was searching videos on how to introduce your cats to a new baby

We've got two days and two sleeps till DHs retrieval Friday morning, and I'm just WFAF to time my CD3 testing. Sigh. Just mildly annoying not knowing for sure when AF is going to show. If I get spotting today and she comes tomorrow, I could maybe get CD2 labs when I bring over his samples Friday morning... or got back for CD3 Saturday... or else if she takes another day or two and CD1 isn't till Friday or Saturday then I guess it'll be Monday for CD3 or CD4. Gahh. I dunno why I just find that uncertainty so annoying. One more stupid thing to obsess about... fx going into work will help the day pass faster and not dwell on everything too much!

@BusinessWife Exciting! I hope AF times herself well and conveniently, and you get good results from your H's retrieval on Friday.
Update from embryologist: all 7 embabies are still cookin' as expected! Plan to culture out to blast stage, with tentative day 5 transfer on Saturday (unless >1 looks good to freeze, in which case we will do PGS and FET in September)
Still sore today, every step seems to shake my ovaries and whatever fluid is left in my abdomen. Someone in my local FB IF group mentioned something that hadn't occurred to me yet - If we don't do a fresh transfer, and I end up stopping hormones, then all this plump, fluffy hormone-induced uterine lining still has to be shed
How's everyone else doing today?

Last cycle I was on half a dose of Ganirelix and I ovulated a few hours before retrieval. They triggered because my LH started rising although they would have wanted another day or two of stims.
This time I started with half a dose for the first 5 days and today I am supposed to increase it to a full dose.
Theoretically it should be ok, but this protocol is long, first 7 days I was only on estrogen and ganirelix, then added the stims and I am already mid -cycle (theoretically if it would have been a normal cycle I was ovulating today) so until I get to day 12 of stims I will be a week after my normal ovulation and I am afraid even a full dose of Ganirelix won't stop the LH...

The protocol start at the premises that DOR patients have a higher that normal LH in their system from the beginning of the cycle which can damage the eggs. So you start half a dose of Ganirelix on the first day of cycle and I think they thought it was enough to suppress the surge...

@BusinessWife Good luck with the retrieval. What I have found is that with the treatments it is impossible to make any plans.
@Dwmmwd I can't believe you made those jeans!!!
Had a day 5 check up today. Things are moving slowly. There were 7 or 8 follicles, all still pretty small.
Seems like a busy summer in IVF land lots of familiar names and some new ones glad to see so many of you having success! Congrats on the great ER, good luck to those stemming and hoping everyone get nice normal blasts that will become our take home miracle babies!! Many of us here have many obstacles and I agree you have to be very strong to make it through this process. I guess I'm still *lurking* as I'm not sure my body is ready for another cycle of IVF but we shall see if I'm a go this weekend when I go in for monitoring.
funkykey congrats on ur numbers hoping another great report is coming your way!! you're getting close lady! I'm sorry you'll be delayed but we know this process always throws us curveballs
@BusinessWife I'm still playing catch up but glad to see you are in it - wishing you all the best!! Looks like you're making some great progress!
Looking forward to seeing more great updates from you all! Sparkling baby dust to everyone!

Yesterday was day 5 for our embryos, and we got a call that only one had made it to blast. Because we had 9 embryos at day 3, I was crushed. The lab said they'd watch the others, who had developed but more slowly, overnight, but that sometimes when they're growing slowly, it's because they're starting to shut down.
Up until day 3, the embryo development is largely determined by the oocyte, and after day 3 sperm quality plays more of a role, so I (of course) started reading up heavily on all the things that could possibly be wrong with my husband's semen that would explain why 8 of our embryos hadn't made it, and decided that he was going to need to make some serious lifestyle changes, even though he exercises regularly and kind of watches his weight and eats vegetables every day (except he smokes, so I was like: "that is the culprit!)... Basically, I completely panicked, and was convinced that the worst had happened.
I woke up every 2 hours last night, I was so anxious, and just prayed that at least one more embryo would make it to blast. Like, just one. I haven't prayed in years, I'm not even that religious. It just felt like it was the only thing I could do.
Then they called this morning, day 6, and 3 of the other embryos pulled through overnight and made it to blast, and I just felt like: "Thank God."
So, we have 4 blastocysts on ice, and I feel such a profound sense of relief and just so extremely thankful. Thanks especially to @Irisheyes81 who was a huge support to me yesterday afternoon when I was freaking out - I like to think that your prayers made a difference!!! Thank you so much!!!!
(ps. posted a version of this update on this weeks T-TTC thread too.)
