Re: GTKY 7/18 - Birth Story

  • Absolutely nothing. Except that she was in her 40th week and had me vaginally. I'm adopted. :)

Mine is not nearly as interesting as some others. Loved reading those :)

I was 2 days "late" and my mom had a VBAC with me after having had an emergency c-section with my brother (he was 2 weeks late and she was induced due to low amniotic fluid...after 24 hours, it just didn't progress fast enough and he went into distress). It was med-free and I came out sucking my 2 middle fingers, a habit which took me 10 years to break. They'd gone to the hospital the evening before and I was born at 9:16am at 7lbs 7oz.

  • @mrsmatt1212 he had twin sons and knew it was important to keep us together.
  • @smallbutmighty77 what a crazy story!!! And makes your s/n all the better :)
  • Don't know much about it. I'm the youngest of 4 and my siblings all came out faster each time. 8 hours, 4 hours, 30 minutes... so they assumed they wouldn't make it to the hospital with me. I was 30 hours and she never lets me forget it. I would have been born on the 4th of July but I guess they needed some sparkle on the 5th.

  • All I know is my mom woke up in the middle of the night and thought labor was bad gas pain. They lived about 15 minutes from the hospital and claim I was almost born in the car. I don't know exactly what that means, like, was I out 10-15 minutes later after getting to the hospital, or is that one of those fun exaggerations, not sure. But my birth was overall quick after figuring out the pain was labor. My older sister was apparently a fairly short experience too- fewer than 7 hours of labor if I recall correctly.

I am praying that my mother's fertility genetics are alive and well in me and I have short labors too...!

  • All I know is that I was born a couple hours after my due date at 2:48am and I came out butt first. My dad always says I came out saying "kiss my ass world!" Haha
LOL! DH was breech and likes to say he came out showing his best side.

    @smallbutmighty77 You're such a fighter!

My my mom and brother almost died from complications of the epidural during my brother's birth so she decided to have me drugs-free. Lucky for her, by the time she arrived at the hospital and the nurses started shaving her, my head was already popping out. She gave birth half-shaved! I hope my baby is as impatient as me and come out in a rush!
  • Around 8 pm, 2 weeks before my due date my mom went into labor.  At some point she and my dad headed to the hospital and I was born at 6:15 am.  I know she did it med free and was a pretty typical birth, but I don't know any details.  She was supposed to help at my cousins 6th birthday party that day, and when she called and told my aunt she wasn't going to make it, my aunt thought she was joking.  I still tell my cousin I was the best birthday present she ever got.

  • @belmont1785 that is crazy about the neighbor names! My DH is a redhead and so was their neighbor at the time-people joked my MIL had some explaining to do. My FIL even jokingly signed a bday card for DH from the neighbor once.

  • After 9+ solid months of morning sickness, I came exactly 2 weeks late. My brother and I were actually both born exactly 2 weeks late, on a Tuesday, the 10th of the month.

I swear over the years the number of hours she was in labor with me has increased. It has been consistently sitting at 29 hours when she tells it for about the last 10 years. She had back labor and I was sunny side up.

She had been begging for a epidural for hours and kept getting told not yet/it's too early. Then suddenly the dr said "oops it's too late now" but she wasn't having any of it and did in fact get her epidural. I think I finally made my appearance around 8 am. My parents love to say I came out screaming and haven't been quiet since.
  • @DeansGirl14 That sounds exactly like my SILs labor with my nephew. She had bad gas pain her entire pregnancy and when she called the on call OB she was told to stay home because her pain didn't sound like contractions. Luckily she ignored her OB and headed to the hospital after it got intense minutes after hanging up the phone. My brother almost had to deliver his son on the side of the road and was on the phone with 911 as he was driving to the hospital. My SIL barely got up to L&D and had him in one push. Her actual OB told her she better get a hotel for # 2!!

I don't really know very much except that I was 8 days late and breech. I believe she was hospitalized for a few days before I was born. I should probably ask her sometime for more details

  • My mom was so sick with me (HG) she was hospitalized several times. She said the first three months she slept on an air mattress in the bathroom because she never knew when she would throw up. She was in labor with me longer than she was at the hospital after having me. Said she was at a teaching hospital so had about twenty people in the room when I was born.

My mom says that I was a really easy pregnancy and birth.  My dad just complains that he had to wake up at 2am to drive my mom to the hospital when she started having contractions.  I was born at 38 weeks, and my mom says that she was in labor for about 8 hours.  She says that she had a great epidural and it was an easy delivery.

20 people?!? I'm all for teaching (out hospital is a teaching one too) but dang that's excessive! Hope they all brought a baby gift :) haha
  • My mom had me at a birth center and I was 5 days late. I do not believe it was a quick/easy labor. The main story that goes along with my birth is that her regular doctor was out of town so she had someone she had never met before and **TW  they told her I had Down Syndrome when I was born. I do not, but the way my face was positioned against her pelvis I guess smooshed the bridge of my nose or something. I think it took them a few days to determine that I was chromosomally normal.** Oh, how far medical care has come!

Baby #3 on the way due 8/19/17

  • My birth story is pretty standard. The only stand out part is that I was born right on my due date (and so was my older brother). My mom's labor with me was about 20ish hours. I guess it took her forever to dilate to 10cm but once she did, she only pushed for like 20 min and I was out. I hope my pushing time is that short!

Side note- my DH was born 6 weeks early and my MIL tells me every single time I talk to her that this baby is also going to come early. It was funny at first but now it's just annoying. Like, you have no idea when he's going to come so let's just hope for a healthy baby whenever he does arrive!
  • My parents went to a Rockies game the night my mom went into labor. she said the nosebleed seats and the long walk back to car got things going. But here's the kicker: my dad was drunk after the game so my mom drove him and a friend home (I think contractions were pretty far apart still) and then my mom let my dad sleep for a few hours before waking him up saying it was time to go! I was the first born so it's not like my mom had really much to go off of in terms of how long labor would be. I don't think they were at the hospital for more than a few hours (Like 6-7, so relatively short) before I was born. When they got to the hospital, my dad was still a little drunk, hadn't even reached the hangover point yet and told the admitting people something along the lines of "I think we're having a baby but I'm not really sure why we're here". Lol
  • @mrsashworth522 that's funny, knowing that everything turned out ok.

I swear men don't understand that babies can come before or after their due date. When MIL was pregnant with DH and went into labor she was up all night pacing and hurting but it was back labor and she didn't know what that was. When FIL woke up to get ready for work he told her to call into work and he'd take her and leave her with his mom so she wasn't alone. He takes her over there and the first thing his mom said was, "are you crazy? You're not going to work, she's obviously in labor."  His response was that she wasn't due for 9 more days. He legitimately believed that babies only came on the due date. They called the doctor and she went in. I'm not sure how long labor was, but I think it was relatively quick, especially for a FTM. Any time it gets brought up he still says, but it was 9 days early!
  • I don't know much. I know I was late (all four of us were, including the twins) and I know she didn't have an epidural (with any of us). I'm really informed.

I have a brother with downs born in 2002 and we had to wait 6 full weeks for results!!!! Today it's much faster. Love him dearly and wouldn't change a thing but those days were agonizing for my family.
  • What I know about my birth is that I was a honeymoon baby. My mom craved many foods that my dad would either take her or go get it for her to eat just so she could throw up after. I was born on Dec 14th at 8 months and the first born :). My mom said I was a fast delivery I almost came out before my dad showed up from parking the car and it was all natural with no meds or nothing.

She might have exaggerated some, but she said she remembers having both nursing students and residents in there. Apparently she was having some crazy contractions and it was a good teaching point for both. Oh other funny part, when my mom got the epidural my dad had been up for 28 hours at this point and had only had coffee. He fainted and woke up in a bed next to my mom. Poor guy still gets reminded of that!
