Dopplers / Fetal Heart Monitors?

Does anyone else own one or plan to purchase one?  I didn't have one with my daughter but think I might like one this time around (especially since my appointment is so far away!)  And I just happen to have an Amazon GC burning a hole in my pocket.  Any recommendations?

Re: Dopplers / Fetal Heart Monitors?

  • I have one and used it frequently with my first. It can cause a lot of unnecessary worry if you're not able to find the heartbeat. I think I'm gonna break it out in like 5 or 6 weeks or so. For me it helped ease my mind until I could feel movement.

  • I just bought one off Amazon! It had great reviews! I'll let you know how it is when it gets here in s week or so. Some people said they were able to find the heartbeat at 9 weeks!
  • I'm torn. I would love to have one for some assurity but  cant imagine the emotions if I couldn't find one simply because of user error.

  • I was thinking about getting one but I'm afraid I'll freak out if I can't find heartbeat on it when I use it. How many weeks can you start hearing a heartbeat on them?

  • I bought one with our daughter and it worked very, very well. I'll have to look at the name of it. I was grateful for it and plan to use it again. I picked up her heartbeat between 9 and 10 weeks.
  • @chasingroygbiv I would love the name of your Doppler when you have the chance!
  • I'm considering getting one also. So please do share the name of yours @chasingroygbiv

Mine was pocket fetal Doppler and worked great.  I usually don't pick the heartbeat up myself until well after nine weeks.  It would take forever at first and I had v use a lot of jelly.  Just remembered, even trained professionals have a hard time early on finding it, so don't get too worked up if you don't find it early on.
  • Tag me tomorrow if I don't remember to check and post myself! I'd like to say I have pregnancy brain, but it's been this way since I was pregnant with our son.  :D
  • Same! I've been researching some to try and find the Best deal vs. Best reviews.

  • @Cowboycorgi I get that! I had been thinking about getting one because my last 2 pregnancies towards the end there would be days I wouldn't feel movement. This always landed me in triage getting nst's. I was thinking it would be nice to have that reassurance instead
  • I had one for DD and it honestly caused more worry and panic than it did peace of mind. I more than likely will not use it at all this pregnancy.
  • @heatherdubrow, same thing happened to me with my DD! She even failed the NST a couple times, so we had to get a couple extra ultrasounds. Everything was always fine, just sleeping deeply. She is still a hard sleeper, lol!
  • Mine is an older version of this. I didn't try using it until second tri. I helped me a lot.

  • My Doppler is the sonoline B. No complaints.
  • I also used the sonoline B with my son. I was able to find his heartbeat at 8w6d. I think it's uncommon to find it quite that early. It definitely gave me peace of mind until I started feeling movement. I think having a toddler will help keep me busy so I'm not worrying as much.

  • I also used the sonoline B with my first. It definitely eased my concerns in the beginning, but if you're the type to freak out if you don't hear something, especially in the early days, then you probably shouldn't get it. It's not always easy to find the right spot and it does make a lot of sounds so it can be confusing in the beginning.
  • This is what I've got. Works well, no complaints. I do tend to use lots of the gel, though, so you may want to buy extra of that!
  • Feeling ghetto but I use a stethoscope  :|

I did it with my first pregnancy and I never thought about freaking out if I couldn't hear anything bc I just assumed it was me.

Of course, I can't imagine keeping a stethoscope around a rambunctious toddler so maybe I'll look into the Doppler!

At work I use a stethoscope and have attempted to hear the hb  an embarrassing number of times.  I never even came close.
  • I had an anterior placenta and even the midwife couldn't pick up a hb at 9 weeks (think we had to wait until 12). This was after a bit of spotting, so I got an US, and everything was fine, but had I tried to use a Doppler myself, I would've flipped out. My husband really wanted one last time, but I don't think we'll get one this time either. DS was so active anyway (nonstop) that after 16 weeks or so it would've been useless. On that note, hoping for a more laid back baby this time around--and no anterior placenta.
