Worried about crippling cramps

I'm not sure if these are normal or not, but since I've concieved, I've had cramps that cause me to double over in pain.  They usually last for about 5-10 minutes, and I get tears in my eyes.  Since I've gotten to 5 weeks, they've become more frequently, about twice a day.  It's not sharp stabbing pain, but a crush of my uterus.  It nearly takes my breath away.  I'm in Boston, so I can't go to my doctor, but is this an extreme emergency of something going terribly wrong?  Please let me know if this is normal, and I'm being pathetic, or if it's more serious.

I would suggest going to an urgent care if you're really in that much pain. It's worth it to get checked out.
Edited to add: at least call your dr and see what they think.

  • Is this your first pregnancy? I ask bc with my first, I was SHOCKED at the sensations and pain I experienced.

I remember hearing the word "discomfort" and crying bc it felt way way past that even though for me, everything was normal.

So, this isn't advice, but just emotional support and saying I remember that time!

What helped me is knowing that I am an extremely physically sensitive person but that doesn't make me weak. In fact, it's what allows me to experience good touches as equally exciting.

If that makes any any sense at all (pretend I'm inserting an eye roll in the mirror gif here)...
  • It's my first pregnancy.  At first I thought it could be ectopic, but I've had no other symptoms and the cramping is all over.  I'm at an educators conference in Boston, and I'm 5+3.  Its not often, but when it happens, it's like I've been punched from the inside out very slowly.
  • Are you constipated at all? If it were me I would get it checked out just to play it safe. Your pain sounds unusual.
  • I'd go in. Better safe than sorry
  • I also vote to go in just to be safe. You'll only continue to worry if you don't.

  • I have to wait till I get back which is Monday.  And yes, I'm partially constipated.  Drinking water though.
  • My first pregnancy was like that because I became severely constipated. But you should be checked out just in case.

  • Yes, I've been surprised by the pain bloat + constipation can cause, but I'd hate to have you brush it off as that and it be something serious. Keep us posted!!
  • I agree with pp's that it could be constipation. My midwife told me that when your constipated everything in there pushes on your growing uterus and can cause cramping and pain. BUT that being said, I would still get checked out to be safe!
  • Thanks guys!  This makes me feel better!  I'll see if I can see anyone soon!
  • Good news @vaewelch! That happened to me with my first pregnancy.
