Re: STM+ Check-In 7/12

  • How far along are you? Boy/Girl/ Team Green? 17 weeks. Team Green, but I think maybe a boy?

How old are your other kids?
    11 months

Current challenges/concerns about being a STM or questions about things your children are going through now?  We had to get rid of our dog and my hubby wants a new one right away. The one he is considering is a puppy (maybe 8 months old? I'm not sure yet). On the one hand, I think it is insane to add a puppy to our lives right now. On the other, he really misses having a dog to come home to (even though he has always been a cat person and I was the one who wanted a dog--we still have a cat) and he feels safer with a dog in the house. He has anxiety, and last night he was up all night worried someone would break in and the dog wouldn't be here to alert us and we'd all end up dead. (This is EXTREMELY unlikely. We don't live in a dangerous neighborhood. There have been a couple break-ins lately, but I am pretty sure the families were on vacation, no one got murdered, and the police take less than 5 minutes to get to our house). He also makes the good point that if we don't do it now, it will probably be a couple years at least before we would.

Current joys/successes/or happy thoughts about being a STM : Scored a video monitor with two cameras on Prime Day yesterday!

Rants/Raves/Randoms/Questions/ Anyone else having worse RLP this time? Last time, it was mostly when I sneezed or later in the pregnancy when I rolled over in bed. This time, it seems like I have to be careful every time I stand up. I talked to a mom friend with a daughter the same age as mine and she didn't know what I was talking about! I guess she got lucky and had 0 RLP during her pregnancy

GTKY: Is your life what you imagined it would be when you were younger? In some ways, yes, in other ways definitely not. I thought I would get married pretty young and maybe have 4-6 kids. DH and I got married at 30 and 2 is probably it for us. In college, I started thinking about becoming a professor, but I thought I would go get my PhD once my kids were grown (still thought I would have them young!) Instead, I started my PhD program the year before I met my husband, and now I'm a professor. I also didn't picture myself living in MS, but I'm pretty happy with it.

  • @cait5413 yes to RLP.  Sneezing is the worst culprit but now I get it when I shift positions in bed

How far along are you? Boy/Girl/ Team Green?
    Team Blue, 17+5

How old are your other kids?
    DS is 3

Current challenges/concerns about being a STM or questions about things your children are going through now?
I still have really bad all day sickness. I never realized how easy my 1st pregnancy until this one so it's been a struggle keeping up with DS. I feel incredibly guilty about not doing fun stuff with him and always being sick and in bed so that's my current struggle.

Current joys/successes/or happy thoughts about being a STM :
Everytime DS brings up his baby brother my heart absolutely melts. Currently trying to figure out how I'm gonna do my Christmas cards this year with the two of them and a limited amount of time in between LO being born and Christmas lol. Clearly I'm worrying about the important stuff....

    Rants/Raves/Randoms/Questions/
I'm torn about a double stroller. We are always out and about and even though DS will be 4 in September, he's tiny and tires out quickly so I know he will still need at least a good year in the stroller. Is it worth the price to get a city mini double? Everyone raves about it.  I just don't want an overly bulky one that I won't be able to manage on my own and that will fit in my car

GTKY: Is your life what you imagined it would be when you were younger?

not at all and I'm quite ok with that!  Growing up, I wanted to be a big corporate lawyer and was adamant that I did not want to ever get married or have children. I did go to law school but found it just wasn't for me. I got married in January and I started yearning for children in my mid 20's even though we didn't have our first until I was in my 30's. It's amazing how things change over time.

17 + 5.  My anatomy scan is in one week and we will be finding out. However, DH is out of town until the 29th and I have to wait for him to open the envelope. Lame.

How old are your other kids? DD wil be 2 in September

Current challenges/concerns about being a STM or questions about things your children are going through now?
Well... we have her big girl room almost completely done and I'm fricking terrified of transitioning out of the crib.

Current joys/successes/or happy thoughts about being a STM :
Um... kids are awesome! I'll take another.

    Rants/Raves/Randoms/Questions/
Does anyone else's boobs hurt a lot more than the first time? My hurt so bad I can barely stand a bra.

Also, I'm having a hard time connecting with everyone on the board and I can't even say why. I never know what to say even though I never shit up IRL. I just thought I'd be more connected by the halfway part.  I want to be your friend I'm just having social problems!

GTKY: Is your life what you imagined it would be when you were younger?

I wish I had a better answer to this question... but I don't. I'm happy though.

@cait5413  I have worse RPL this time around too. I asked my dr about it and she said that's common because your body has done it before and falls into place faster.
  • @Marley629
I was just thinking about Christmas cards today! They may be new year's cards this year.

@jlemons-2 I think my boobs have hurt less this time! But I was still nursing when we got pregnant, so that's been a little weird. I weaned, and now they're getting fuller again.

  • @jlemons-2 I get what your saying about it's hard to connect.  With my BMB for DS, I struggled with same and didn't connect really until we created a FB group in the 8th month. It was easier to connect putting faces to names, etc.

  • @Marley629 thanks, I feel better to know I'm not alone.

@cait5413 I weaned in December and I wondered if that made it worse or not. Also, my nipples changed a lot and fast. They're all ready to feed. Weird.

@cait5413, I didn't have RLP the first two times, so this is my first experience with it. So yes, worse.

How far along are you? Boy/Girl/ Team Green?
at the moment team green, but that could change.
How old are your other kids?

Going on 4 and a little over 2
Current challenges/concerns about being a STM or questions about things your children are going through now?
Ugh. I don't think I can pick up my son anymore  :(
For the second time this pregnancy I felt like a shooting pain up the side of my abdomen when I picked him up. He's probably something over 40 lbs now.
Current joys/successes/or happy thoughts about being a STM :
Just excited to be completing our family and moving forward with goals and trips.
    Rants/Raves/Randoms/Questions/
    None.
GTKY: Is your life what you imagined it would be when you were younger?
I guess so? I mean, I think I figured I'd have a husband and kids and a job and that's where I'm at.
  • @cait5413  that's tough, about the dog. both giving up and deciding on a new one. training a new puppy is honestly terrible, but getting one that is 5 months to 12 months would be ideal in minimizing that pain. if your DH truly has anxiety issues, i think it is important to consider his mental health in your decision. if you get one now, you'll have time to acclimate before your december baby. otherwise, i imagine you'll end up waiting a few years. i'm not sure your DH sounds like he will handle that well.

@Marley629  what about new year's cards? my SIL does those to take some pressure off of her christmas schedule and they turn out really nice. plus people will pay more attention when it's not in the thick of christmas card season LOL. as for the double stroller, that's probably the only baby equipment topic i've ever found overwhelming to research. it's on hold for us right now but i will get back to it eventually. there are just so many types, and so many choices within each type, and such a variety of price ranges...

@jlemons-2  that is SUPER lame you have to wait. ugh. we'll be transitioning my son to his big boy room at his birthday in september (he'll be three) so we can bond over our terror and struggles at that time, haha!

19w 3d; we have our A/S on Monday at the MFM and will be finding out

How old are your other kids?
DS will be 3 in September

Current challenges/concerns about being a STM or questions about things your children are going through now?   Oooof. The last few days have been such a challenge. All of a sudden my DS is really struggling to regulate his emotions. I mean, there are normal toddler mood swings and there is THIS. LEVEL. OF. STRUGGLE. He literally is non-functioning for hours at a time at the end of the day because he is tired. He just started potty training officially at school and I am wondering if it is subconsciously stressing him out or he feels pressured. He's more than ready and has been peeing on the potty for a year now, so I'm not worried he is being rushed, and he likes it to boot... but the change in his temperament is very sudden and I feel terrible for him. He also has been struggling in that weird zone where he's not quite ready to give up his nap but he almost needs to so I think it's all piling on at once. I just feel so bad that I am not able to help him. I give him lots of understanding and hugs and talk it through, a million Daniel Tiger songs, but sometimes his brain just turns off and he is inconsolable and it is exhausting us both.

Current joys/successes/or happy thoughts about being a STM : I truly am excited to share with my DS next week that we are having another baby and that it will be his little brother or sister.

Rants/Raves/Randoms/Questions/  The preg-somnia is already so real. It's too early for me to suck at sleeping this bad.

GTKY: Is your life what you imagined it would be when you were younger?  Honestly, I don't recall how I imagined my life. I was never one to have strong visions of where things will go. I didn't have plans for my wedding or anything like that.

  • @anewadventure yeah, I think we are going to do it. We go back to see the pup at the shelter on Friday (she was being spayed this week), so we'll make the decision then. I told DH training is his job, but we'll see how that works out!

  • @cait5413 I didnt have RLP at all with DS and I've had it a few times this time around!
@Marley629 christmas cards have been on my mind too! Though I'm thinking of making it a bit of a maternity photo shoot, so I can get them all done by the end of Nov. My goal is to have ALL my christmas stuff DONE by Nov 30, including decorating!
@jlemons-2 I think we need more controversy on this board, that always divides and strengthens haha

How far along are you? Boy/Girl/ Team Green?
18+1 - I want to be green, but DH wants to find out! AS is next week so we will see.

How old are your other kids?
    DS is almost 18 months

Current challenges/concerns about being a STM or questions about things your children are going through now?
I got off nights but now I'll be on evenings... means I don't get to put DS to bed whenever I'm working :( Not that it matters, and DH does it half the time anyway, but it still makes my hormonal heart sad.

Current joys/successes/or happy thoughts about being a STM :
Felt baby kick from the outside the other day and it was a reality check... like holy shit there is actually a baby in there, kicking me. I don't know why it hit me so hard because I've been feeling movements and have heard the HB and had 2 ultrasounds... but that just made it real.

    Rants/Raves/Randoms/Questions/
DS has been sleeping in until 7:30-7:45 every morning since we got back from vacation - I really hope that continues since with working evenings I won't be getting to bed until midnight! My midwife wasn't super psyched on the idea, but she agreed that I should try it for a month (so about 6 or 8 evening shifts) and see how it goes.

GTKY: Is your life what you imagined it would be when you were younger?
Um... Nope. At least not at all what I envisioned as a teen/in my early 20s. Never thought I'd have kids. Thought I'd be a doctor. Never dreamed I'd have moved half way across the country. The only thing that has turned out the way I had hoped is marrying DH.
