I couldn't find a deals thread (I thought we had one at some time, but I can't seem to find it) and freebies didn't seem like the right thread, but I figured there are a lot of deals today/tomorrow/maybe the rest of the week and it might be nice to have one place where we can share particularly good deals.

Call me a Debbie Downer, but Prime Day is sooo weak! I didn't see anything that I really wanted, and $7 off $35 isn't really that big of a discount on Amazon IMO.

Baby deals are being snatched up quick! I did just get a waterproof pack and play mattress cover. Not a huge discount but it's something I will need so I scooped it up. As well as a dresser for the nursery. I'm tracking some more deals as well. All the carriers are going quickly. Good luck to all!

i will agree, in general, to know your prices and price points for typical sales before buying something. each year on prime day i feel there are only, say, 100 deals that are really a DEAL. and then only if it is something you NEED. usually we end up with some diapers or wipes, maybe some random electronic accessories or battery packs, a steel water bottle or two. last year i got hiking poles and superfeet insoles. generally, though, prime day is a hyped up gimmick that succeeds in getting amazon a crapton of money. smart marketing.

back to the instant pot. do yourself a favor and buy one.

Except last night where I forgot to add water to it and therefore it did not cook my sweet potatoes....

I probably should start a new thread with this question lol. But I've heard a lot about insta pot. What does it do exactly? Is it like a crock pot?

@ngarciabyu - It is a pressure cooker (it also has a crock pot feature). It has a lot more safety features than your old school pressure cookers. It's great because you can make so many one-pot meals in it (it has a saute feature so when you need to brown meat, you can do it right in the pot). Essentially, you put the food in and turn it on and you can't touch it. So no babysitting, no stiring. Just set and get on with your life.

I do caution that the word "instant" is a bit of a misnomer. Things aren't instant. Some things aren't even faster. For example, the sweet potatoes I failed at making last night. They take about 30 minutes. Could you do them in the microwave faster, yes. But it's quicker than the stove.

But for things that generally take a long time, it reduces the time. Think things you've simmer on the stove all day or use the crock pot for. I've made chili, which tastes like it's been simmering all day, in 30 minutes. I've made beef stew for 15 people, again tastes like it's been cooking all day, in 1.5 hours.

You can also cook from frozen. I've thrown frozen chicken breasts in with a jar of salsa and 20 minutes later had tender and fall apart chicken for tacos.

Some people get crazy and try and cook everything in there, because it's a snap to clean. If you follow the Facebook groups, lasagna is a great example of this. I've never tried lasagna and the Instant Pot recipe doesn't look that much easier than just making it the old fashioned way. But people like that you don't have to turn the stove on and heat up the house. The device gives off very little to no heat.

@tennis11785 That is the one I originally wanted, but I decided against it. Once you take away the storage underneath you have nowhere to put anything. At home that wouldn't be a big deal but I'll be using this one at work so wanted one with the side storage.

@ktcakes87 - that makes sense. Our Pack N Play will be in our bedroom when the baby is first born (when you'll need and be able to access the storage). Once she's big enough that you can't access the storage anymore, it will mostly be for times when I won't need the storage anyway (travel where we'll have everything in a bag anyway, just hanging out and need her contained, etc). @ashtynmo That's the exact travel system I'm registered for! I've been wanting to not buy anything on Prime Day because I don't have that much stuff on my registry so I feel like most of it will be bought for me...but dang, that's a good deal...

this is where i have an assholey response, perhaps - buy at the steal price today. keep on registry as well. get one from someone at shower, return at full price. pocket the credit to buy the things you didn't get / diapers

Possible unplanned perk: when my lillebaby carrier (bought on lightning sale special) shipped, we got the full non-lightning-sale price tallied toward free diaper special for Prime customers. I don't know if this is a fluke, but for those of you finding high-dollar-value items from your registries at great prices you may also be counting up to $100 in free diapers faster.

I also got infant seats for the twins. There's only like 4 compatible ones for the Joovy Twin Roo double stroller I want. I had to have someone else order the second seat bc the deal would only let me order 1.

I got a Graco Fast Action Fold Jogging travel system originally $253 and I got it for $128 including tax! I have been looking at jogging strollers and this deal was too hard to pass up! Sorry if someone already posted this!
