I'm obsessed with old wives tales and thought it would be cool to create a thread where everyone can write their favorites! I know there are so many different ones! Also for those of us who don't get to find out the sex for a few weeks, this can help make the wait a bit more fun.

This old wives tale has always been my favorite. According to this one I will have 4 children: boy, girl, boy, boy. So far it's right with the first being a boy. If it stays true, then this little one that I'm growing right now will be a girl!

(Edited to add: although I highly doubt all 36 year olds who conceived during March, April, and May are all having boys. LOL)

I guess this counts as a wive's tale:

My coworker flipped out when I was reached for something above my head. She said you can't lift your hands over your head or the cord will tangle! She was dead serious about it.

@eags I've heard that one!

The only one I remember from last go around was that heartburn indicates a hairy baby. I had monster heartburt with Miles and he had such lovely, thick dark hair at birth. I read somewhere that it has to do with a hormone involved in hair growth, but who knows.

@ollydolly I'm choosing to believe this one till I get the genetics back this week or next. Haha. It was correct about DS. But it was wrong about what I'd be. Sooo who knows. Haha

There's a lady at work who is FULL of old wives tales! If anyone drops anything she calls them out and says they have "dropsy" and must be pregnant. She is also intent on trying to guess whether you're having a girl or boy based on how you're carrying, whether you have acne, and whether you have heartburn.

@scatteringashes I don't remember having any heartburn with my first child, but he sure was a hairy little one. Still is.

Supposedly, blonde haired kids aren't born with hair, but he's definitely a blonde hairy one...

@scatteringashes I had *massive* heartburn with DS (like even the meds didn't stop it) and he came out with no hair. Just a touch of blonde peach fuzz and was bald for like forever.

My surrogacy, I had minimal heartburn and the baby came out with a head of gorgeous dark hair! Total old wive's tale!

My MIL recently told dh that if I got morning sickness later in the pregnancy I was definitely having a boy. But that's already wrong because it started early to mid first trimester this time while last time it started at the very end almost into second trimester and I had a girl. Last time I was also going to punch anyone who said that the second tri is better because I was already in it and felt awful! I'm hoping this time it really does stop soon, I'm twelve weeks this week.

@scatteringashes I had bad heartburn with DD2 and she was a cue ball. 14 mos and she is starting to grow hair.

All of my pregnancies have been different. I have minimal ms with DD1 and thought I was having a boy with DD2 because I was so sick. It will be interesting to see what this one is. Most of the wives tales point to girl. Fingers crossed.

My doctor today guessed that ours is a boy, based on an active baby hiding from the doppler. She said (and I quote) a challenging girl child would be in your face giving you attitude. A challenging boy child hides because he just set the lawn on fire.

I got a kick out of that, but I still hope it's a girl!

There is also the nub test that can be seen best between 12 and 15 weeks if its above 30 degrees its a boy if not a girl. Then the Ramzie test that depicts if your placenta is on the right its a girl and left its a boy. My whole family we want a girl sadly according to the Ramzie test it might be a boy plus i have had dreams about a boy. I desperately want a girl but will love my baby no matter what

@kathrinp i am not sure bc i have a tilted uterus so my son was all back and i didnt show til 7 mths with him. Now with this one i am just a few days shy of 12 wks and i show

I made this when I was pregnant with DS. According to these old wives tales, most indicate a girl this time around!
