Maternity Clothes

I know this question was asked in a thread, I just can't remember which. Not that most of us are near the need for them, but what are some of you favorite brands?

With my last pregnancy I purchased a ton from Pinkblush, Asos, and Nordstrom. Realizing I'll be able to wear all of it again since our kids will only be a month apart, but we have like FIVE weddings from now until March.

I managed to get some cute stuff from Zulily, but it's hit or miss. I like Seraphine, I purchased my baby shower dress from than and loves it. Pinkblush is my favorite.

I also have a few lularoe dresses that aren't maternity but are absolutely stretchy/baggy enough to wear throughout pregnancy!

I'm just thrilled that this time around I'll be armed with plenty of nursing bras when I have a newborn. Last time I bought bras that were waaaaayyyy too small. I had no idea my boobs would grow so much AFTER the baby was born. My favorites are the Jessica Simpson line from Motherhood Maternity. She's a woman who understands big boobs.

  • @Elizabella85 I have heard of Seraphine, I'll have to check it out! Pinkblush is awesome-mostly just for tops. I felt like their pants/leggings wore out super quick.

I am probably the only person who doesn't own anything Lularoe, but I've noticed their stuff is more on the baggy side, so something to consider as well.

Unfortunately I had zero boobs whatsoever, and they didn't get much bigger!

  • My last pregnancy, I started feeling pretty down about my body and decided to go on a shopping spree at Pea in the Pod. It's a step above Motherhood, but they had so many cute things at our store in Vegas. Designer jeans, fun dresses, etc. I'm 2-3 months ahead of my last pregnancy, but we live in a colder climate now, so I'm happy I'll be able to wear it all again! For more lounge like clothes and basic shorts, I thought Target had a good selection. I'll probably hit them up when the time comes for basic short sleeve shirts to hang out in. I've never been super excited about Motherhood Maternity stuff.
  • I love the look of pinkblush but some of their dresses are sooo short I couldn't wear them during the third trimester at all. I got a lot of my maternity clothes second hand or at the motherhood outlet. Target and h&m are also good.
  • I'm a sahm and don't need anything fancy, I really like gap and loft... gap for basics and loft for a step up.

Motherhood stuff and old navy fit me terribly, all the pants were floods, but different body types might like them.

Nord has great stuff too, I got a super cute dress last time for Mymensingh cousins shower. Unfortunately I didn't lose and gained this winter after my loss and none of that will fit.

i have an April, January and June baby so I'm well versed in dressing a winter bump. I liked wearing leggings and tunics, comfy easy and cute. Layers too because you get hot. Maternity jeans are the best. Worth it IMO, find a pair that fits you great and you will wear the, soooo much. Get in a great fitting comfy pair, and you might end to size up for the end.

I wore my maternity jeans for a while post partum and having a bigger then smaller early pregnancy pair was useful after too.

my other tip is don't put off maternity. Hwen you wear maternity even if you aren't showing a ton you will look pregnanct and if you just wear regular stuff a size up you just look fat. IMO. Plus it's way more comfy, and no I found I felt much better about my figure wearing clothes cut to accommodate the baby.

  • @scoogy19 I really like H&M too!
  • @pghctwife couldn't agree more with you regarding maternity jeans. I ended up splurging on a few because I lived in them, and ended up wearing them for a month or two after my daughter was born.
  • @missnc77 Did they have a good sale at a Pea in the Pod?? I didn't realize there was one in Vegas and I'd like to get some cute pieces.

Ps, I love maternity shorts and have been shamelessly wearing the crap out of them, even when I'm not pregnant.
  • I don't remember any sales but they do have the typical sale/clearance rack type stuff online and in store.
  • Oh I didn't buy any pants from PinkBlush. I'm very short, pants rarely fit length-wise and I refused to tailor maternity clothes.

I purchased several stretchy skirts from Old Navy and called it good.

  • I already ordered a bunch of maternity pants since I expect my regular pants to be uncomfortable soon. I can't lie, I'm so excited to wear stretch pants 24/7 again! I got some from Motherhood and some from ThredUp because I've had good experience with them in the past. I'm also trying Letote for regular clothes and will switch to the maternity box if I like it.

  • I loved the Motherhood full panel jeans and lived in them starting around 5 months until a couple months pp. I also love Gap maternity and am still shamelessly wearing those shorts this summer. I liked regular flowy tops paired with maternity jeans and I agree with a previous poster that as soon as you put them on, you look preg (in a fitted shirt). I loved that quality ha
  • I love a lot of Wal-Mart.com's maternity clothes. And swap.com has a ton of great clothes, second hand. Kids, maternity and non, toys books. . . .
  • I will be living in LuLaRoe, heck I already do that. So excited to have LLR in my life though for this pregnancy. In the past it was target for me

You won't regret it! I mean clothes that you can wear throughout pregnancy and continue to wear them afterwards!? Yes please!

I second this! I loved having cute stuff that I could wear both while pregnant and pp. I wear the one size leggings now but the tall and curvy were heaven pp.
  • @emklein86 I was looking at Pinkblush last week. How would you rate it? I like some of their stuff but I always like to hear from people who have actually purchased from an online place before I do because I've had some bad experiences...

  • @Ktjennks I purchased a few tops and pants from them. Wasn't really happy with the leggings. They wore out SO fast. I liked their tops-they're not the BEST quality, but they lasted me my entire pregnancy and will most likely last this one too. I think of it as sort of a nicer Forever 21.
  • I liked pinkblush and bought a bunch of tops but never pants. It's like forever 21 quality, maybe a little better. I LIVED in Liz Lang for Target under the belly leggings. Got a few typical items from Motherhood/destination too but only because of the specialization...I liked the Jessica Simpson maternity jeans I got from there because they were affordable but comfortable. I got all my dresses from ASOS, they have great baby shower and wedding dress choices! I think I got a few things rom old navy but didn't love their selection. I want to try gap this time and some of the middle range brands. If your'e looking for super cheap but really comfortable basics, Great Expectations Maternity brand at Walmart is great.
  • I ordered a lot of maternity stuff from Zulily last time. Most of it worked fine and I got really lucky with this one dress I got for a wedding. The bad thing about ordering from them is that shipping takes forever and there are no returns.

During my last pregnancy, I tried to get dresses that I could wear while pregnant and postpartum. For some reason, I didn't even think of breastfeeding. Just something to keep in mind if you plan to BF... you'll want to have boob access.
  • @emklein86 thank you!! i didn't really buy anything for my last pregnancy (I wish I had because mine are a little less than a moth apart)  This pregnancy I want to have more things to wear and be comfortable!
    Pregnancy Ticker
  • @Ktjennks sure! I didn't buy too much either, and felt like I wore the same stuff quite a bit. I want to go all out this time around  ;)

Really great point @mamaloba816, I ended up finding a few good pregnancy/nursing dresses on amazon for great prices.
  • I tend to wear flowy tops/maxi dresses/maxi skirts a lot as it is, so most of my wardrobe fit through my whole pregnancy last time, and a friend loaned me a couple of pairs of maternity jeans as well. I'll probably buy a few maternity tops and a pair of pants or two this time around since I won't be due the same time of year and maxi skirts might be too cold in February.

  • I forgot about Old Navy, but if you're comfortable buying online they have really comfy stuff.

  • @ktjennks I bought maybe 6 or 7 tops from Pinkblush. I bought a few early in my pregnancy and they ran small for me, and then I bought a few more thinking it was a sizing issue, and the quality and consistency wasn't impressive. In my opinion, it was too expensive for the quality you get. I have clothes from Target and Motherhood Maternity that have lasted strong through 2 pregnancies and I'll still be able to wear again.

  • Ross actually has decent maternity clothes. They're cheap so the quality doesn't bother me so much.

But my motherhood maternity items have been staples for me.
  • I love H&M tops, nice and stretchy without being too clingy, and great for post-partum. H&M also has some cute (and cheap) nursing tops. You can order online and return in store. I also got some things from Destination Maternity on sale, I remember last time I loved their maternity underwear.

My last pregnancy, my best friend got me a Le Tote maternity subscription for 3 months towards the end of my pregnancy, and that was great to use for work items (blouses, dresses) without having to spend a lot of money on purchasing those things that I'd only wear a few times. I've also seen Borrow for Your Bump and La Belle Bump, so I might try those this time around.

  • I am getting some great suggestions from this thread! I usually wear scrubs for work, so I did not need many maternity clothes in the past. However, I have to wear business casual to clinical, and I don't know what I am going to do. I got rid of all of my maternity clothes because we thought our family was complete. The thought of buying a whole new wardrobe for such a short time frame stresses me out. Thred Up sounds like a great idea.
  • @fiddleRN79 same here!! I'm going to check out a few of these suggestions, that's for sure.
  • Oh! If we're talking work clothes, cheapy tank tops with a cardigan and a cute, stretchy pencil skirt was my uniform.

Also, Walmart has the best and cheapest nursing stuff. I have 2 nursing dresses that are actually cute!

I just read an article that Target is teaming up with Ingrid and Isabel! I love their stuff but it can be pricey so I'm pretty excited for this. Good timing!
  • @loganjsmommy1978 Pinkblush or Motherhood Maternity would be my go to's for a dress.
  • Also Gap for a dress!
  • @loganjsmommy1978 asos is awesome for dresses.
  • Great tips ladies! I'm looking into some of these now! I already feel like nothing fits thanks to the 6 week bloat! Anyone have suggestions for panties?

  • @mommaredlace While many will say maternity underwear are unnecessary - I loved the ones I got from Gap.  And bonus - you can still wear them after because you have a pp pooch that will probably never go away.  Just me?
My maternity underwear were life after my CS!
