Anyone doing IVF in July/August?

Re: Anyone doing IVF in July/August?

  • @Bababatty welcome! We did 7 IUI's before moving onto IVF. My husband towards the end had low motility and they didn't seem too concerned since we did ICSI also. All the sperm was implanted just fine. Fingers crossed for some financial help. We're completely out of pocket and had no options for help. :)
    TTC 4 years. 7 failed IUI's with either Clomid, Femara and/or Trigger Shots. Started IVF journey in February 2017. Polyps removed in May. 1st IVF Transfer September 26th. BFP. Expected due date 6/14/18. Baby boy born 5/25/18 at 6 lb 9 oz. My bundle of joy.

    @sarajasonivf - keeping FX for you!

    AFM, a quick update - I'm off to pay for the actual IVF procedure at the clinic (GULP), and then I start stimming tomorrow. Holy crow!
    OMG! that's awesome!!!
  • I'm really sore :( Just got the call though we have 10 fertilized embryos so I am very happy. We had 10 retrieved and all 10 fertilized :)
    Great numbers! Soreness is to be expected. Just relax as much as you can and you should feel better shortly.

    Hey ladies! I'm jumping into this thread, too, since I'll likely also be starting my first IVF cycle at the end of July. We're signed up for our training course in two weeks.  :# Now just waiting to hear from our clinic about our approval for an NYS government program that helps offset IVF costs, since this is all OOP for us.

    DH has low motility, which was somewhat remedied by clomid but to the detriment of his morphology (although neither his urologist nor our RE is concerned about that). We've done 6 IUIs over the course of almost a year. This cycle is a break, which is nice. When we start our IVF cycle, we will have been trying for exactly two years (~26-27 cycles, I've lost track). By way of protocol, we'll definitely be doing ICSI with a fresh transfer. All the medications seemed pretty standard, although my RE doesn't do any suppression cycles prior to starting the IVF cycle.

    I recognize a bunch of you, and am looking forward to getting to know the rest of you. Good luck, all!
    Glad to see you stimming with us!

    @funkykey  Yay for getting the party started!!!  The two weeks of stimming flew by for me.  I think it was because there were so many blood work and ultrasounds.  They were like a ton of mini steps that led up to the transfer.  GL for an amazing response.

  • @Holls214 So from what I understand, I'm gonna start Lupron soon.  After AF, vivelle dot patches start along with estradiol valerate. Then towards the end (I think a week before transfer ) I start a progesterone shot. I have never done this so I'm guessing that this is what you meant by protocol.?
    Endometrial biopsy scratching, is what my re calls "scratch test" have you had this done? Is this your first transfer? How many embryos do you have and how many will be transferred? Did you do pgd? What does your protocol look like?
    I promise I ask questions and listen in my clinic but I feel like I'm not getting all the information I need. I just come in when they tell me to, order medicine when they tell me, pay when they tell me to.  I'm just hoping what everyone is hoping, that it will one day lead me to a bfp!
  • @amynico this is my first IVF experience too... we got 8 embryos all PGS tested normal, 1 was abnormal. Im in the same boat as you still learning... I think we're on about the same protocol but I'm not doing lupron or a scratch. Why are they doing the scratch? Do you know? And yes me too. I just do what I'm told haha. ;)

    @bionerdsteph!

    @Bababatty welcome & we'll be cycle buddies!
  • @Holls214 The scratch test is done to increase chances of implantation. It increases white blood cells and gene switching.  Wow! 7 embryos! That's great! We got 3 and 2 tested abnormal.  Keep me posted on your dates and when you start the meds.

    @amynico I'll have to ask my doctor about that! Thanks. And yes you too! Yeah we're implanting the highest rated boy. FX and hopefully time goes by fast for us both.

  • @baker+RN That's awesome! Welcome!
  • @momifbysea Sorry you're benched! I thought that was going to happen to me. How big was your cyst? I had a huge 40mm cyst but RE continued with a few more days of bcp and I'm on my first day of Lupron. Also, I hope August is the month for you!

  • @allycheer00 I think the nurse said it was 28mm. 40 sounds huge but happy you can start after those few extra days of BCP! I'm extra bummed because I was hoping to skip BCP and do a third retrieval this month so not only do I have to wait for the cyst but then the clinic closing for two weeks forces me to the month before my 43rd bday! Grr...
  • @Momifbysea That sounds super frustrating!

    @bionerdsteph. Yeah, it's definitely hard for them not to blame themselves.  I think it's natural, but like you said in your case, it could just as easily been you!  Just one if those things! (ETA and Im so sorry you had to go through chemo.  My SIL recently beat cancer, too!) But knowing that doesn't always make it any easier for a person to believe it in their heart... Congrats on the amazing news so far and fx!!!

    We had zero sperm in both SAs so we are waiting for TESE in two weeks to see if we are a go!
  • @BusinessWife Thank you! He was born with it and has known he had it his whole life. It involved 13 some-odd surgeries as an infant all the way up through early teens to reconstruct ureters, bring down testicles, and remove one (malformed). He always assumed he'd have to adopt, so that there were any sperm at all on the SA was a huge and welcome surprise. He is pretty bummed out by how stressful and time-constraining IVF is and I don't think he realized how much work it would entail on my end (I had an idea from doing research). He doesn't blame himself, and he is excited to get this process started, but unfortunately work is super busy for him right now and we have family visiting when we are supposed to do the transfer. He hasn't told his family yet that we are doing IVF or even TTC because he doesn't want to get anyone's hopes up (ever the pragmatist, my DH), so it's going to be hard to conceal some of the things we are doing. Depending on how the samples he gives on 7/12 and 7/17 go, we will proceed with ICSI, but if the sperm don't look terrific then we will freeze and probably also go the direction of TESE.

    @bionerdsteph those sound like some good numbers, my fingers are crossed for continued good news for you and your husband! Congratulations on surviving cancer and chemo - that's no easy feat!!

  • @bionerdsteph I don't know if I can say that DH blames himself, after all I'm the one with the old eggs that are our main issue. But I have noticed the stress of this whole process getting to him. I mentioned we are benched for two cycles before IVF #3 so we are trying naturally this month and the last two times we've tried he hasn't finished so I'm not holding out much hope as this is my fertile window. This is NOT like him. I think it's because this whole thing starts to feel like work, so regimented for such a long period of time that it wears on both partners. We are tired. Not giving up, but really really tired.
  • @Momifbysea I can empathize. It definitely wears on both of us, too.

  • Ok, nobody mentioned how bad the gas gets during stims. It started out innocuous, all bark and no bite (luckily, for my husband). Today, however, the game has changed!.... Anyone have a match?

  • Ok aside from my butt being a nuclear grade weapon, I'm feeling pretty good on day 3 of stims. I don't want to jinx anything or rub anyone the wrong way, but I prepared myself to feel like garbage, and I feel really good. I'm on 75 IU menopur in the AM and 150 IU gonal-f in the PM. Is this just the calm before the storm, or does not everyone experience an emotional rollercoaster on these shots? Or does the show not really get started until I add in the cetrotide? I felt weepy and emotional on the BCP. TIA

  • Idk @baker+RN but glad you're not feeling too bad yet!  I think with my BFF, she definitely started feeling it a few more days in... but not much at first.
  • @baker+RN I never felt bad, a little tired and at the end uncomfortably full/fat. I couldn't button my pants the last few days.
  • @BusinessWife @bionerdsteph I'm starting to feel twinges of pain around my ovaries and perhaps a little bloated, but emotionally I'm feeling great. I feel energized, which I feel like a bum for not running, but it's doctor's orders (risk for ovarian torsion). The nurse today said some women feel energized, but most feel blah, and to not be surprised if the blahs do come around eventually. I'm curious too what the goal e2 level is day by day. I have my lab results but no new instructions (yet?). E2 was 98.8 pg/dl today (stim day 3), was 64.6 pg/dl at baseline.

  • Do any of you have endometriosis? My period has started 5 days after the birth control pills and it is the easiest one that I've had in 3 years. I'm so happy because they're usually extremely painful and the bloat is unreal. When this is all over, I'm going back on BC forever lol

    @baker+RN Awesome that you feel so good. I hope it continues.
