Re: 7 Month Check-in

  • when did your LO turn 7 months?

    May 23rd

    height/weight/clothing size?

I'm guessing almost 15 lbs and about 26 inches.  Clothing varies 3-6, 6-9 months

    milestones?

Sits unassisted and does not stay still, Pulls herself up to stand, eating solids, able to crawl a few paces. Crawling was completely unexpected because she has not been doing the rocking thing at all, and I really thought she'd be one of those babies that pretty much skipped crawling and went straight to walking.

what are LO's favourite things (toys, activities, etc)?

Giving kisses, the bouncer, going outside, going for walks, wrestling with Daddy, standing

    what is your biggest challenge?

Sleep, but that has improved a lot.  She's been waking only once in the MOTN and has been doing well at putting herself to sleep for bed.  Naps are probably the biggest challenge.  They take more work getting her to sleep and H has a really hard time being able to lay her down.  So he basically lays with her every time but I told him he is going to have to figure out a way to break that.

GTKY: what was favourite vacation? And if you could vacation anywhere now where would it be?

Favorite was Cancun, Mexico.  It was probably the cheapest trip we've been on, but it was SO fun!  If I could go anywhere now it would be Italy.  I want to take a long trip and visit Rome, Venice, and Florence.

  • @Ladybug2821 I did that Italy trip a couple years ago for our honeymoon! We did Rome-sorrento(and Pompeii)-Florence(and Pisa)- Venice-Rome. It was the best!! I highly recommend it!! And it can be cheap if you get good seat sales!

Everyone always says it's the best. I can't wait until we can go. My BFF actually lives in Italy now so I'm sure if I can get cheap plane tickets like you said it won't be too expensive. My BFF went abroad for school 2 years ago and hasn't come back because she loves it so much.
  • @Ladybug2821 I am so jealous!! A part of me has always wanted to live abroad for a while. But I met DH and settled down instead (which I don't regret at all). H and I joke all the time about him writing the bar in Italy and practicing there for a little while. Maybe someday!

I am so different than everyone. I have absolutely no desire to travel and/or live abroad. I wouldn't even want to live anywhere except where I live now (not even the next town 30 minutes away, where I work). I don't mind traveling on occasion, but I'm not in love with it like most people.

  • I love to travel. Probably one of my fave things to do. We also have this thing where we plan to go to every baseball stadium so we get to see that city also. So far we've been to 11 stadiums I  think. Hope to make 12 this summer going to Atlanta to see the Braves.

My husband and I are both big on travel. We've been to europe 3 times since we started dating, Canada and Latin America. We had a trip to Asia planned before I got pregnant. We're excited to travel with A, she's been on a plane 4 times and has been great every time. The only thing holding us back from traveling more is my mom...
@kristah2 my cousin got married on the Amalfi coast. It was one of the top 3 weddings I've ever attended.
  • We like to do a lot of the islands so we've been to Puerto Rico, Aruba, Bahamas, Hawaii, places like that.  But we have also been to Egypt and Canada.  We definitely need to go to Europe asap.  It just hasn't panned out yet.
  • when did your LO turn 7 months?
    Saturday May 27th

    height/weight/clothing size?
26.75in, 16lb, a mix of 3-6mo and 6-9mo clothes and 6-9mo or 9-12mo sleepers. We have to usually size up the sleepers because he is long.

    milestones?
Crawling like crazy. Pulling up on the couch and "cruising" he can't quite stand on his own yet because balance but he's really trying. Bottom front 2 teeth are in.

what are LO's favourite things (toys, activities, etc)?
He lives the little monkey that's in his car seat. It plays a little snip from Fur Elise about he lights up. He also lives splashing in the pool and chasing after big brothers.

what is your biggest challenge? Getting him to eat purees instead of just nursing. He loves his milkies but we need to be eating more solid food soon. Also, sleep! Getting this kid to sleep in his crib is like torture!

GTKY: what was favourite vacation? And if you could vacation anywhere now where would it be?
Favorite so far would be my honeymoon to Vegas. It was really special for many reasons.
I want to go to Australia. It will happen someday.

  • @MrsBigTime so nice to have you back!! Make sure to post and tell us all about Maui and the pros and cons of travelling without kiddos!!
  • @hoosiermama-2 Try the calcium/magnesium supplement. I've been taking that for the past month and noticed that I was able to pump my normal amount when I was about to get my period and during. My period was greatly affecting my supply and I read that on Kelly Mom. I also just decided to take it daily and I think it has brought my supply back to what is was before getting back my period.
  • @Ladybug2821 Which one are you taking? There are so many on Amazon! :(

  • when did your LO turn 7 months? July 2
height/weight/clothing size? Around 16 lb and 6 month clothes. Not sure on height!
milestones? Rolling all over the room and playing with random table legs, drawer handles, etc. Sitting for longer periods of time (but still falls). Also just figured out how to undo his velcro cloth diaper covers so that's great....haha.
what are LO's favourite things (toys, activities, etc)? He really likes going outside. Or just leaving the house in general. Loves the grocery store and is so interested in everything.
what is your biggest challenge?  MOTN wake ups! He still wakes twice at night to nurse but I feel like he doesn't really need it. He used to always wake around midnight and 4 but some days his first wake up is at 10...he definitely should not be hungry already since his bedtime feed is around 7. Hoping he grows out of it soon without too much of a fight.
GTKY: what was favourite vacation? And if you could vacation anywhere now where would it be?
I haven't done a whole lot of traveling but had a great road trip with H to the mountains and did some winery tours in BC two summers ago, which was great!
  • Have you tried giving a bottle with some water at night @ALBONNET1218
I got that as a tip with my 7 month check up. Not that it worked for me, so I give her now half a bottle and she starts skipping MOTN feeds. Apparently it helps to make it less interesting for them to wake up.
It also might help to send in DH, as he's not the walking food delivery guy.
I notice that if I walk in the room at night and she's fuzzing but need a little help that she goes ballistic if I don't give her a bottle, eventhough before I walked in she was just looking for a dummy.
As lack of DH I haven't tried the latter, there's no one else to send. But might be worth a try for you!

  • Hi @tvh1982! Thanks for responding! The bottle with water is interesting..the concept makes sense!

I have sent DH in a couple times but I think we should try to be more consistent with it. I don't mind feeding him at night because he's pretty small still but he needs to go longer than 3 hours haha thanks for the tips!!
  • He definitely should go longer than 3 hours.
My LO is 8 months now and only skipped her MOTN for 3 days now.
Id give her a dreamfeed at 11pm an if i was lucky she'd sleep until 4am. But often thought it would nice to see me at 2am too.
Must admit a sleepy baby cuddles at night were very lovely too!

@albonnet1218 My LO gets up typically once for a MOTN feed. Sometimes it's twice. I'm not too concerned about it and just roll with it. I know I talked with her doctor and she isn't too concerned. She said her kids never really slept through the night.

  • Okay thanks @m6agua! It's good to know there are others in the same boat!
  • @ALBONNET1218 Have you tried to sleep train yet? He may just be waking up out of habit and crying because he can't put himself back to sleep. If he associates sleep with food then he may not be able to fall asleep without the bottle/boob. If you sleep trained then he'd learn how to fall back asleep on his own without those sleep associations.
  • @MrsMaryK2016 the weird thing is I have sleep trained for naps and bedtime! We did CIO at about 4.5 months. He's great at putting himself to sleep for naps and bedtime. I also recently changed his bedtime routine so that I feed him first then do bath, pj's, etc. and he goes into his crib awake.

When he wakes in the MOTN though, he cries like someone is murdering him until I feed him. I think he is waking out of habit but I don't understand why he can't put himself back to sleep. I've tried CIO in the MOTN but its sooo hard...way harder than naps or bedtime (I need sleep, my DH needs sleep, and crying seems that much worse at night). Once he cried for an hour straight and I couldn't handle it anymore. Do I need to just power through and do CIO at night? I mean I don't want to starve him but he should be able to last longer than 3-4 hours!
  • @MrsMaryK2016 oh and during the day we do eat, play, sleep so no feed to sleep associations there either.
  • Yikes, I have no advice there. I'm surprised he didn't drop at least one feeding after you sleep trained. Not to rub it in but M was up ever 3-4 hours until we sleep trained and once we did he started sleeping through the night. Are you sure he's getting enough to eat during the day? I dunno, maybe that's it?
  • I'd say try to decrease the bottle bit by bit. Might be less interesting to wake up for half a bottle? This has worked for me after two weeks my LO has started to skipp the MOTN feeding for 5 nights straight.
She went from dreamfeed at 22:30 and a bottle at 4am to sleeping from 07:30 to 07:00! (Mind you I've also added fruit, bread and dinner during the day!)

  • @MrsMaryK2016 @tvh1982 I think he's getting enough to eat during the day but we BF so I guess I don't really know for sure. We started solids around 6 months (BLW) so maybe I should try and actually get more into him instead of letting him explore the food and feed himself. I nurse at night, no bottle, so may I should try to decrease the minutes gradually and see how that goes. Thanks for the advice!!
