  Typically with physical things like this, doctors often reinforce that you can keep doing what you've been doing and adjust for comfort. When I was pregnant with DS, DD wasn't too wild and crazy, so picking her up and carrying her around wasn't an issue. This time around, DS is our occasional "fit thrower" which leads me to believe his wild movements could cause me to pull something if I'm not careful (later on in pregnancy). As with most things in your pregnancy, just listen to your body and it'll let you know when enough is enough.

  @Ktjennks as far as I know there is no issue. I pick up my toddler all the time and she's big! I did the same with my second pregnancy and my oldest daughter.

  I think you just have to be careful as your pregnancy progresses. Your centre of gravity will change and it's easier to pull something and hurt yourself

  I would say unless your doctor tells you otherwise or you've already been declared high risk, you should be ok. Definitely ask at your next appointment in case though! I'm currently picking mine up, but if I end up finding out I have another SCH like in my last pregnancy I may not be able to.

  My RE put me on a 10lb weight restriction, but there are times I'm just going to have to pick up my 15month DD. If my husband can help, or if I can avoid it in another way, then I try to pass the baby reigns over. However, it's just not practical most of the time.

  I'm concerned about this as well, mainly because I've already been dealing with some lower back pain pre-pregnancy. I'm just trying to be really conscious of using good form when I pick up my daughter.

  Good question for your doctor, but if it reassures you, I am an olympic style lifter and routinely deadlifted >200 lbs until well into my 2nd trimester with my first pregnancy.

  Unless you are put on restrictions, continue doing what you are doing.  Pregnant women have toted around young ones since the begining of time.  There should be no issue.

  I've been thinking about this as I watch my 22 month old son and think "man...He is going to love it when I lose my agility and speed..."

  I picked up my oldest son up until the end of my pregnancy when my second was born. He was 18 months old at the time.  I did have to be more careful near the end of my third trimester but I did ok.  The hardest part was after having a c-section with my second.  I could not lift my oldest son little lone have him in my lap.  This was really difficult for both me and my older son,  who couldn't understand why mommy wouldn't pick him up anymore.  Just use caution and always check with your doctor as each pregnancy is unique, and you should be fine.
