  Sorry, but I wouldn't make a big deal out of it.  Most people in my family/circle of friends would find it tacky as the "let's reveal the sex of a baby and celebrate" is tacky....the baby shower is for you and to welcome you into motherhood....  If you are not telling anyone prior to, then do something simple like pink frosting in the cake (If girl) or pink balloons.  Don't go over the top. Just my opinion.

  I don't plan to go over top. It's my 3rd baby, but I didn't get to anything special with my other two.

  Honestly, I would be a bit put off by this if I were invited. In my circle we only do showers for first babies. If I got this invite I would find it maybe gift grabby, especially if you already know the sex and just want to reveal it to your friends. I think the only fun thing about gender reveals is seeing the reaction of the parents-to-be, so if you already know then it sort of misses the point. What about a sip and see after baby is born? Then everyone has an occasion to celebrate and can meet the LO without making anyone potentially feel awkward about it.

  I agree with PP 1,000,000%  I would be very put off, and probably not attend.   
  
  I agree with a meet the baby party afterwards.  A baby shower is to welcome you into motherhood. Celebrate baby after the birth.

  If someone is throwing a baby shower for your 3rd baby, and you cannot decline the shower, I think it is acceptable to tell shower guests the sex of the baby, provided you do it in a low-key way.
  
  That being said, keep in mind that no one is as interested in this information as you are.  If you are counting on the announcement to make this shower more of a celebration, you may be disappointed.  When pregnant friends have announced the sex of their unborn child, I'm always happy, but my response is usually something like, "Oh, yay!  Congrats! That's awesome!"  I don't go crazy for one gender over the other because I think both girl and boy babies are pretty awesome.
  
  Sex reveal parties are tacky.  Third showers are also tacky, but I know there are situations (workplace, church, etc.) where every pregnancy gets the same treatment in order to be "fair."  There are also times when a family member insists and it would cause so much grief that it's easier to just accept the shower (in laws, possibly.)
  
  If you are throwing your own 3rd shower and announcing the sex of your baby just for the sake of "celebrating," you should strongly reconsider.  Even if you don't care about the gifts, many people you invite will think you're being greedy and self-centered.
