what was you ladies' experiences at the 12 month check up?
I'm concerned because I keep hearing the question pop up about baby "talking". He says mama, Dada, and will make all sorts of other sounds ya, ada, buh, and other noises with his mouth but no actual "words".
He's also started shaking his head and he'll roll his eyes into the back of his head sometimes.
Probably just paranoid, but yea.
Re: 12 month check up
M only says dad and mom. Today she did sign thank you for the first time. But otherwise no other words. Like you, she does have tons of sounds though. My husband and I were talking about it, and jointly decided that because we know she can understand what we're saying and follow simple commands (come here, no mam, may mommy have a bite?) we aren't worried. We would be worried though, if she didn't have many words AND didn't seem to understand what we were saying.
I read somewhere that often times, kids that are physically advanced (M walking at 8 months seems to fit this) tend to lag in speech a bit and vice versa. Has to do with their brain development. Not sure if you fall into that camp or not?
Words - Our pedi really wasn't too concerned with what she can repeat right now. In fact he told us 12-18 months they may not add a ton of words to their vocab, but they will take in so many words! If that makes sense. He said 18 months is really the turning point with language.
Food - I asked about their diet and if there's anything we should still be staying away from (i.e. Honey) and he said nope! At this age, as long as there aren't any allergies, let them eat it! Obviously the size should be appropriate tho. Like with meats and some fruits.
Sleep - I don't have much to report there. Didn't ask much about it since (cross our fingers) she's been a great sleeper for the pst few months.
She got 5 shots! Poor babe. Wasn't thrilled with them but recovered quickly.
DD2 says mama, dada, Crystal (dog), Cooper (dog) and signs all done and more.
Also, I heard somewhere (maybe here??) that those monthly milestones are meant to be reached by the end of the month. A lot can change in a month.
It was crazy though- no undressing and she got to get on the big kid scale!
Also, super exciting that our pedi is 5 months pregnant! She's adorable and we love her, so this is awesome news.
Our next appointment is at 15 months.
