Hiccups in the 3rd Tri (Baby's Hiccups!)

I was going to post this in the Randoms thread but really wanted to get some advice from the group as a whole that may not be reading that. I've felt daily hiccups - sometimes multiple times of day - and they can last super short or can be upwards of 5-10 minutes. So I googled (bad, bad idea) if there is any reason to be concerned and, of course, there is. There were quite a few sites that said feeling this past week 32 could indicate an umbilical cord problem. Has anyone experienced/heard this from their doc? I don't have a check up until next Thursday but feel silly calling with this odd question.

My little guy gets hiccups daily, sometimes twice a day too. I've told my OB and told L&D during the NST - no one said anything negative or were alarmed. I'm only 30 weeks but I feel like they would have said something like "if it continues..." but if you're worried - I don't think it's a silly question. L&D and the OB both said that if you have a worry, no matter how silly, just call.

I'm curious on what they would say as well now.

I feel hiccups fairly often too and I don't think it's anything to worry about. When I was pregnant with DD it was the same way. She still gets hiccups all the time and she's 5. But of course it's good to ask the doctor if you're worried. None of my pregnancy books mentioned it as a worry and they cover everything.

My son had hiccups every single day as well later on in the pregnancy and my doctor never mentioned anything to me or gave me reason to be alarmed. I think if there was a reason for concern, doctors would say something. He had hiccups after he was born also and the doctor said it's normal.

Thanks, ladies! I was just surprised to find anything that said it could even remotely be a cause for concern. I'll ask at my appointment next week unless I stop feeling movement or something equally concerning.

My babies had hiccups all of the time. Sometimes many times a day. They say that's the way they practice breathing. My babies are perfectly healthy 2 month olds

I asked when I was pregnant because my LO had hiccups ALL THE TIME! And of course I also googled it

My daughter hiccuped all the time and is a great 3 year old! Google is evil haha, she used to laugh hysterically at 2am for an hour. Google said it could've been brain trauma. She just thought the shadows in her room were hilarious. I totally asked the doctor too, they're used to every question and honestly I feel better asking!

I hardly felt my LO moving, but I felt hiccups everyday twice a day.
I had an every other day CTG scan from 36 weeks on as I no longer felt her move, only her hiccups told me she was fine.
Never once had any doctor (neither in Norway or the Netherlands) mentioned it was a bad thing.
They only said that it must be comforting for me to feel as I know she's ok.
At 38 weeks she was born and kept her hiccups for a few months on the same times. She still hiccups often, but not everyday. She's 7 months and perfectly healthy!
Always ask anything that worries you. It's their job to make you stop worrying!
And step away from google! It's a scary place to visit.

I dont know if I've felt hiccups... how do i know the difference between hiccups and movement? I don't know if I've ever paid attention close enough....
but i don't think there is anything wrong with daily hiccups. My sono tech said hiccups are a good sign in regards to the babies lungs.

Hiccups feel like consistent rhythmic jerking (usually pretty much evenly spaced like when you have the hiccups! ). You will know it when you feel it

No, some dont have hiccups, you are sleeping or busy and won't notice.
My LO had hiccups early morning and when I went to bed. I only felt them if I was in bed.
Try not to worry, I never felt a kick while pregnant and those are suppose to be more noticeable than a hiccup

My boy gets the hiccups 2-3x daily, usually after I eat. He actually got them during my scan last week (33 weeks) with MFM and she said it's totally normal and healthy & helps massage the organs. It was really cute to watch his little body move with each hiccup

I feel plently of kicks and movements but I don't notice hiccups.

@Colleen0516 Hiccups feel like a tiny kick to me but in a rhythm instead of randomly so you may have felt them but not realized. Also with twins it may be harder to feel - they are really obvious to me now her back is hard up against my lower belly.

I mentioned to my doc yesterday that the baby gets the hiccups all. The. Time. And he just laughed. So I'll take that as it isn't a need for concern!

Yay @Colleen0516! I didn't feel then tii later either...3-she still hiccups all the time on the outside too.... especially right befits naps lol
