Re: June IVF

  • Hey ladies,

Just reading along and learning from you guys. I have a couple questions. At the time of egg retrieval, how big do they want your follicles? If you have multiple as they'd like, do  you have pressure in your ovaries? I've had two large follicles in one ovary at once and it was a little uncomfortable so I'd imagine this would be too.

Once retrieval happens, how long until you know how many eggs fertilized?

  • @Aera11 4 fertilized?!?!? Doing a happy dance for you, yessss!!! That is so awesome!
  • @Aera11 YAY for four fertilized!  Double what had fertilized before :)

@Hopeful_mom I think I'd mentioned that my RE is expecting too - she's such a tiny little thing that I noticed after I hadn't seen her in about six weeks (since my previous retrieval when I was there for my next cycle's baseline).  DH hadn't seen her in a while (noteince last egg retrieval two months ago) and he said he really wouldn't have been able to tell had I not told him.  She's most of the time covered up by a black polar fleece vest :p

  • artemis618 too funny!!  When do we find out about your 5?

@Aera11 woohoo!!! good job eggs!!!  now let them cook up nice and strong for you!!  3dt fresh transfer i love it!!!

JaeJayStark I'm pretty aboard with the info already given!  Each cycle is different, the cycle I felt the most discomfort was the cycle i had 9/10 cooking...but then the cycle with a few gave me some pain here and there...its strange but hang in there.  After ER have gaterade on hand and salty something they tell you to have too.  Your fert they should know 1st thing in the AM, I stalk the lab and call them :)  but usually they call around the afternoon if you wait on them.  Usually the trigger helps smaller ones mature the ones around 16/18 so you can keep that in mind too.  You dont want any of them to be over 24 as I believe once they reach 27 they might be considered a cyst and you lose it.

AFM:  seems i'm still in it.  So after some acupuncture and another day on meds the right side has seemed to perk up a bit...I laugh I can count all my follies and have a close personal relationship with all of them   My right now has a 13.5 and 15, left 20.5 and 17.5 SO I'm still doing another day of stems, I dont want to lose the big one BUT last cycle the big one was empty and then the smaller one wasn't mature enough.  I would just like to avoid that and get all 4 This round! My E2 is in the 400 zone so I might almost want to push for 2 more days of meds...but i get the feeling they will want to trigger me tomorrow.  Lets hope the right one will get a nice boost and the left side will just hang out....I ask so much of my body dont i   Back for bw and US in the morning!  Hate having to go every day but gotta do it!

  • @Holls214 hope you feel better soon and take it easy if you can!

@Hopeful_mom thinking of you and your follies. I love your comment about having a close personal relationship with them! Also, I owe you a huge thanks for inspiring me to press my RE on the whole waiting a cycle/BCP thing. I asked him why BCP to suppress and he said to make sure there's no cystic activity and as I asked if there was ANY way he'd consider veering from his normal protocol due to me really running out of time, he thought for a moment and then said to call him on the day I start my period, come in for a baseline U/S and if there are no cysts I can start stims without having to do BCP! I'm all about not wasting a cycle if I can help it!
  • @Momifbysea thank you!! I'm on day 7 of stims. No one told me that the Ganirelix shot was so dull that I would have to jam it into my body. Oh IVF. So fun! Got 24 follies so far. Hopefully they keep their growth up!

Thanks @Hopeful_mom & @artemis618!  I'm trying to enjoy the calm before the dreaded tww... Last time I tested out my trigger & it helped ease the bfn.

@Holls214 24 follicles sounds great!  Hope they keep growing :)

  • Do you know if you are going to transfer more than 1? My doctor told me I shouldn't be pregnant with twins as I have a smaller cervix and it is kinda frustrating as we have been trying for 5 years.

Because of your small cervix @Holls214?  My RE does two for anyone between 30-35 -- I actually almost petitioned for 3, just to help our odds.  I've transferred two both rounds before this, so I feel like the odds of 3 sticking for me would be so rare.  I'm mobile bumping & can't see your siggy if you have one, have you done a transfer yet or is this your first round?
  • Enia11Enia11 member
I am also indecisive of how many to transfer. My RE suggested only one... I just dunno. And transfer is on Monday..
  • I'm 32. Never been pregnant, first round of IVF. It's such a hard decision... maybe I will talk to her again. It just feels like better odds with 2. I had someone I know do 3 and all of them stuck.

@holly321 I am leaning towards 2. It's my first round as well!
  • Aera11Aera11 member
@Holls214 I know a fellow bumper who did transfer 3 and all took as well!  I would happily take 3 instead of 0, even though there are such high risks with carrying triplets.  I am sticking with two though in hope that the other two make it to day 5 so they can be frozen, and if this round doesn't work, we'll have another two to transfer.

@Enia11 are you doing a fresh or frozen transfer?
  • Enia11Enia11 member
@Aera11 I'm doing fresh. I don't even know how many embryos I got so far, but I will find out tomorrow.

So, I was just reading this post from the beginning. Those of you who went through ER recently had an anesthesia!! And all I got was an IM dilaudid and small

@Hopeful_mom. 3 blasts biopsied and sent for testing today, thanks (vacation in Portland has been a nice distraction today).  Half as many as we had tested last cycle, but these are my first day 5 (instead of 6) blasts ever. Again, RE told us it could take up to a week, but the last time we had biopsies on Friday we found out the following Monday (as in next business day!), so who knows?  Of course we are hopeful, but know the odds aren't in our favor.  When is it looking like your retrieval will be?

  • artemis618 yay for 3!! I know it's so frustrating and scary!  I always pray I get them all back as I will do the same for you! Did they give u any grading on them?  Not that it matters I had perfect Embabies and only 1 of 3 of the perfect ones came back.  Sweets I kno the odds are not in our favor BUT I did get 2 out of 3 back last cycle and I actually felt like the odds were in my favor after all was said and done.  Hmmmm did I not mention it in my post, I think ER will be on Monday unless I don't have as much growth tomorrow and we push to Tuesday....this is where I'm at the dr everyday and it sucks.  Just hoping these follies stay in it and r nice and strong!!

Enia11 you had an ER and they didn't tell you how many eggs they got and no anesthesia omg you're my hero! I've done 4 so far hopefully my 5 is coming soon and I totally need the drugs I'm way too nervous BUT mini ivf they usually offer no drugs and u save money for not using anesthesia.  I think doing a fresh transfer is great!!! Best of luck!!

Momifbysea  im so glad I mentioned it, sometimes I hope I don't give too much info. I'm surprised ur dr does it for all.  Low amh usually u never suppress!! I'm really hoping u don't have to and can just great right back on the wagon :)

    holls214 I think I took on ur headache :(

How many to transfer is the question??? There was a thread started on that topic not that long ago if you look through the pages you'll find it and it's a pretty interesting read.  AFM: I dream of transferring 2 BUT (TW) I MC twins and my RE wants me having one healthy baby at a time.  Right now we don't kno y I MC and it could be just because there was 2.   Now I also transferred 3 because I'm old and my RE never though 2 would stick.  Younger woman they usually only transfer 1 as the odds r u have normal embabies that will stick.  It's always a gamble.  Some do one and if they get a Bfn they try 2 the next time.  Is for health reasons the dr says u shouldn't then I might lean to listening to that. Since making normal embryos is tougher then I expected I will be transferring one at my FET.  I much rather be doing fresh BUT I had to test so I will play the waiting game.

Yeah I think that makes sense... if the 1 doesn't work the first time then doing 2. Sorry to hear about your loss... we're doing my ER sometime next week. I have another appt tomorrow for blood and us. Yesterday I had 24 follies all ranging in size so hopefully they are growing some more. I don't know about the procedure of anesthesia or just meds... I was awake for my hysteroscopy polyp removal and that was horrible!!

@Enia11 whoa no anesthesia!  How was your procedure/recovery?  I don't do well with anesthesia & would love to skip it but my RE doesn't do it without.

@artemis618 yay for 3 day5 embabies!  I hope you hear back ASAP :) and I'm jealous of your trip...my brother lived in Portland for a long time and I loved going to visit.

@Hopeful_mom Sry, I am a sloppy writer, I know how many eggs they retrieved, 15 and 13 got fertilized. Just don't know how embryos we got as a right now. Thank for a great explanation of why not to go with two. Makes perfect sense.
@Holls214 I am encourage you to find out about anesthesia and get one if you can. At my office they didn't provide it and dilaudid made me somewhat reluctant at first but when the actual retrieval started the pain was excruciating. Thankfully, right after it was over, I felt better almost immediately. I asked for a prescription of narcotics though, as I was scared of that pain to remain, but ended up feeling fine and didn't take any painkillers. Light cramps and discomfort, that's about it. Best of luck to your ER day! When is it?
  • had to take a picture for my mom, she didn't believe me when I said it took up half our dinner table! I'm on the long Lupron/Demi-halt. I start 10 days of 10IU Lupron Sunday then Folistim & menopur. I think it's a pretty standard protocol from what I've read, but this is my first round & I feel like I know nothing.
  • Aera11Aera11 member
It's definitely a lot of info & overwhelming, you just have to take your time & it gets easier...I felt like I was in a fertility fog during my first round.  By #3 I could do it with my eyes shut.  Hopefully you'll just need the one round unless you're banking!
  • @Enia11 I will ask them tomorrow about that, I'm worried about the pain as well. The hysteroscopy was super painful during or maybe I'm just a wuss. I'll definitely ask for pain pills just in case too. Thanks!!

  • @Holls214 my hystroscopy was super bad at the end when they scrapped. My RE said ER was not as bad.

@Enia11 I will ask them tomorrow about that, I'm worried about the pain as well. The hysteroscopy was super painful during or maybe I'm just a wuss. I'll definitely ask for pain pills just in case too. Thanks!!
Wait u didn't have anesthesia for the hysreoscopy either? What is going on here? I believe I hate that too as I needed a polyp and fibroid removed and that was my first ever anesthesia experience.  The thought of nothing is crazy to me!!! I tip my hat to u ladies!!!

im glad I'm not the o my one that takes pics of my meds, the box it came in takes up the hallway alone.  I'm on 4 powders of menupar alone so that right there is about a box a night, so far this cycle I've gone through. 11boxes that'll cover half the table for sure ;)@bionerdsteph

i have a niece niece who has seen me take my meds and kiss me, wishes me good luck and to think happy thoughts so in between the burning I try and do that!!

  • @Hopeful_mom I didn't. It was the weirdest experience. If I wanted to be put to sleep I would have had to have waited another month so I opted to be awake. Never again! 4 powders. That is a lot! I'm sorry. You are a warrior.

@Aera11 Sorry, I missed your question! The procedure was not a happy ride, but recovery on the other hand was OK, dilaudid was still lingering in my system for a few hours which helped me to nap an hour latter.
@Holls214 Hey, your meds looked familiar! As I understand you're almost through with them. You can do it! I thought of them as an ovarian juice that creates follies and helped them grow, it helped me with coping. Best of luck!!

@bionerdsteph  I started my injections last night !  I thought I was the only one late to the June IVF game.  Good luck.  It wasn't that bad.  I took a pic of my meds too : )

@Enia11  Wow! No anesthesia?  You are a strong wom@enigmasara

@artemis618   Yay for 3 day 5s.  FX for you

@Hopeful_mom   Sorry your ultrasound wasn't that great. It's good that your RE is optimistic.

I would love to transfer two, but my insurance company will only let me transfer one fresh.  They stink.

First monitoring bloodwork and ultrasound bright and early Monday morning.

  • Hello ladies...
I wanted to ask if injections is the only form of meds you take during a cycle? I looked at a pic one of the ladies posted and I didn't see any pills. I would love to not have to take pills.
