Totally in zombie mode over here! Juggling a toddler and newborn is really no joke. I have to gripe for a minute because I keep getting told to ask for help and this past week I couldn't get my SIL to stir dinner for me while I was giving DS a bottle, couldn't get anyone to hold DS so I could feed DD her dinner, and I got stuck watching DH's bratty 6yo niece while SIL who was supposed to be watching her sat in the other room watching Hulu...I swear people just like to watch me struggle. I finally snapped at DH and said that this is exactly why I won't ask for help because those who "offer" it are never around to help...Anyways, that got rant quick and probably doesn't entirely male sense as I hardly got any sleep. Today consists of going to DS's appointment to check his circumcision and probably some errands. Last night DH mentioned something about going on a date tonight so that's a possibility.
@OmegaRose3 I hear ya.. Life with 2 littles is exhausting. I'm also going to gripe and say that I am sick of entertaining people. I told dh that I don't want anyone coming over this weekend because I'm too exhausted and we've been having a ton of visitors.
@omegarose3 and @lrwardrop yep, having 2 under 2 is really no joke. I just lost my cool on DS1 - gave him a bath so he'd go down for his nap smoother while DS2 was already asleep. He started screaming and crying as MH was headed out to an appointment and, of course, DS2 wakes up crying. So here I am juggling two crying kiddos. But DS1 gets louder as DS2 chimes in so instead of using my mommy-has-all-the-patience-in-the-world voice/tone, I tried a quick "hey!" to try to check him and thAt did not work but only made it worse. So I take a deep breath, distract him with his water bottle and tend to DS2. Now they're both asleep. Ugh.
Gosh, the only visitors we've entertained in the last 4 weeks have been my mother and MIL. I wouldn't even let my BF or my sister and her family over yet. Sorry not sorry - we're in survival mode still. I know they want to meet DS2, but they have littles and are sick all the time... We don't need that ish over here, especially before DS2 is vaccinated!
I'm probably in the minority, but I won't even take DS2 out in public until 2 weeks after his first round of vaccinations. All we'll do is go for walks while his car seat is covered. That's what we did with DS1.
The struggle is real! Two DD, one 4 weeks and one 18 months. Even with a lot of help is really dificult. But hang in there ladies and just take one day at a time. That what I keep saying to myself, there will be one day we're both of them will sleep and eat by themselves... and I need to be sane enough to enjoy that LOL. Yesterday DD#2 had 3 poop explosion in 1 hr span. And Dd#1 woke up twice at night plus she is getting 3 new molars. Can you imagine her mood ? Can you imagine ours? Just remember one day at a time
Dealing with so many kids is hard. The first few days the boys were gone, we were able to have a date night in and just relax. However, now I am missing them so much. I am counting down the days until our little family of 5 is reunited.
re: Visitors, I had 2 guests show up with no warning at all. Of course the house was a mess both times.
re: Going out in public, we limit the places we, tend to keep DD covered or in the carrier, and always use the preemie excuse for still not allowing many people to touch her. My SIL's friend is pregnant and October 23. She plans on taking her newborn out to trick or treat. That's a little too soon for me.
I am impressed with anyone who had had visitors. I got protective of my baby bonding time this go round and declared no visitors other than immediate family. A friend of mine is hosting a Sip And See for the baby this weekend, and that's when the rest of the family and my friends get to meet her. Sorry, not sorry!!
Definitely in zombie mode and I only have the one. It's just so hard to do things other than the essentials when I'm so tired all the time. I had one goal today - to go for a walk. Didn't even happen. I'd really like to start doing things again, but I just seem to resort to sitting on the couch all the time. It doesn't help that I don't feel comfortable trying BFing in public yet because of the massive amounts of leakage we experience while feeding. I'm really hoping my supply regulates before my H goes back to work. I was counting on his support my first time BFing out in the real world.
@Irwardrop Ugh, I would have no energy to host right now. Honestly if I get to comfy on the couch I nod off and every time SIL has had someone over since having DS, I'm too irritable and tired to even pretend I'm nice.
Re going out in public: I keep it simple and keep DS inaccessible by baby wearing or in the carseat, covered but if I stayed in the house I would go absolutely nuts and get stir crazy. DH is a bit rough looking so most people don't even try to touch the kids.
Anyone have a baby that grunts when you lay them down? Mine constantly grunts, especially at night. I read online that it's common and normal but I'm not so sure... He doesn't show any other signs of reflux other than grunting
@kateriee just about every night I sleep through him crying. I feel horrible, but H gets up with him throughout the night for feedings. He'll wake me if it's bad or needs help. I think I'm just so exhausted from the day that I pass out and don't hear anything. I didn't realize I was such a heavy sleeper but I think it's more from exhaustion. You'd think i wouldn't be that bad if I'm able to sleep at night but I tend to be up with Ollie late sonH can get some sleep and then get up when H leaves.
@lrwardrop Ollie grunts and then gets mucus/spit up I don't know what it is stuck in his throat and sounds like he's choking. We use the squeeze ball thing from the hospital to help get the stuff out but sometimes it's really bad and he really freaks himself, and me, out. It usually only happens when he's laying flat so it's hard to put him down for naps or at night because I get so nervous. Our dr said it's normal to have the congestion sounds and he should swallow it, but this is a little more than that now.

@lrwardrop, DS grunts a lot in his sleep. He isn't showing any other signs of reflux. Sometimes the grunting will lead to a toot that seems to calm him down. Sometimes it just seem like he's grunting for no reason.

@lrwardrop DS1 was a grunter and so is DD. I don't remember how long it lasted with DS1. However, our NICU said most babies tend to stop grunting around 3-4 months. And, I have noticed that DD is grunting less often now.
@lrwardrop DD grunts all night long, really loudly. I'm a light sleeper, so I feel like it keeps me from actually falling asleep between feedings. So add me to the zombie list!
Congrats @Jens_Hoes. I thought I. Was going to yell at you because I saw that you were the last one to post on the health and fitness thread. My first thought was "she literally just had a baby!" Then I read your comment and noticed it was just in support of others
On another random note, saw a post on a mom's page on FB asking about having sex before your 6 week check...is that a thing? I had an episiotomy with DD and have 3 very large internal tears this time and the idea of having sex right now at 2 weeks PP literally makes me cringe...I can't even...not to mention the infection risk....
@OmegaRose3 at 2 weeks pp, I still had some bleeding, and didn't even want to think about doing the deed. Yet, there's women that discover they are pregnant at the 6 week pp check up.
@mcvgal I can't even imagine that! I'm still super suprised it's a thing...I think they told me at least 5 times not to insert anything or have intercourse for 6 weeks unless told otherwise at my check up
@mcvgal I can't even imagine that! I'm still super suprised it's a thing...I think they told me at least 5 times not to insert anything or have intercourse for 6 weeks unless told otherwise at my check up
I was shocked when the doc that discharged me came in and said to resume exercise as soon as I felt comfortable. And sex by week four was ok. Ummm wth?!
Random: Our dog's health has been on a downward trajectory over the past few months. I've been reading advice on how to talk with kids (preschool-aged specifically) and want to know if any of you have dealt with the issue of death in your house? It could be for an animal or person. What worked best for you? How'd you answer the tough Qs? And is there something you wish you would've said/done differently?
Parenting reality check of the day: Apparently I need to introduce my kid to the concept of death... had to happen at some point, right?
@lrwardrop DS grunts and snorts all the time. The nurse at the hospital told me it was normal and not to worry about it.
@SKZW - I'm sorry to hear about your dog. Last year our in home daycare provider lost her dog who DS was incredibly in love with. We just sat him down and told him the Moose got really sick and that he went to doggie heaven. He had a lot of questions about why he got sick and we just kept telling him that sometimes when dogs get older they get sick and then they need to go to heaven.
I'm popping in to say hello! I've been MIA since I can't get the Bump App to work on my phone and it's hard for me to get to the actual computer these days. DS#1 left today for KS with my parents and nephews for our family reunion so I have a little more time on my hands. It feels so quite and weird around here without him.
Trying out my hands free nursing bra for the first time even though H is currently holding Ollie lol I do like how I don't have to hold the bottles the entire time! Let's hope it helps when I'm by myself with Ollie during the day. FX!

@SKZW I had a book growing up about a dog growing old and passing, but I still took it hard when I was told my cat died or the dog died. I don't think there is a whole lot you can really do, I hated that book and never wanted to read it but still needed my alone time when an animal passed. If you want, I'm pretty sure I still have it and can pull the book out and give you the title and author to see if you can buy a used one somewhere.
@SKZW my dog ran away 5 days ago and hasn't come home yet, DS1 keeps asking where she is and we just say she's gone and he's satisfied, we did the same when my mums dog had to be put down, he's 3. They do eventually just stop asking.
eta: forgot the other topic, re sex before 6 weeks. I had no stitches this time and at 3w PP if I weren't still bleeding I would consider it, so I do understand how maybe if you didn't know it wasn't recommended you could think about it. I still want absolutely nothing to do with sex at all, but I don't think at this point it would be painful.

My random for today - 13 days pp and I found my first stray hair! Waaaahhh! I love not shedding and I really hate the postpartum hair loss. Boooo!
also this evening after DD2 and I woke up from a late nap I couldn't figure out why she was so fussy. Well turns out her diaper was FULL. Oops #momfail
@skzw so sorry for your loss. My parents introduced it to me with a book called Dog Heaven. It was really beautiful and helped me cope knowing he was some place lovely. Three days ago we had to rehome our dog as he had gotten very food aggressive after DD was born two years ago and was stalking DD like a predator whenever she had food and would bite it out of her hands. Not okay. I feel so sad and guilty, but we really did try to keep him but this is really the best for everyone. The house seems so much more peaceful without him.. :-/
@SKZW No experience with this myself, but I agree that it's probably best to keep it short and sweet. I'd just explain it in the most simple way possible to understand at the age. So sorry you're going through this! Death is hard enough without having to break it to someone else.
So far so good @skzw! Sorry about your dog any loss is difficult. Our animals are such a part of our families that it's just as hard to say goodbye or explain to a LO what has happened. Thinking of you!

Has anyone else slept through their LO crying? I did and I feel so guilty. Luckily DD isn't holding a grudge.
Yes like literally on day two back from the hospital. I guess I was so exhausted it didn't even register. He was in the pack and play in the bedroom and my husband comes back from running errands and the baby is crying and I'm out cold in bed. Lol. I felt horrible. But it's a lot better now.
