@MJDsquared Branch makes me think of the movie Trolls. Actually I won't be surprised if my DD suggests that as a name for this baby... along with Poppy lol.
Oh! I remember playing high school sports against a girl named Tyranny!
I absolutely HATE the name Neveah... no... you're not creative for spelling Heaven backwards... FFS.
Also, this one is a little dark and I'll probably get flamed...but...
Naming your child something 'hopeful' is not going to save them from whatever terrible diagnosis/circumstances they've been born into... soooooo many very unwell children named Hope, Miracle, Angel etc living in childrens hospitals...
I have also come across the La-sha name before (la-dash-ah). Yikes!
And I have seen my fair share of odd ones. Lotus Of Vortex. Hamburger. Michael Jackson (this one always cracks me up). Twins names Latonya and Latanya. and twins named Wayne and Dwayne. WHY???
@MJDsquared Branch was actually a character on the netflix show Longmire! I thought it was very random then, however it seemed to fit that character. I definitely have heard worse names. I work in a college, so every once and a while I get names too where I'm like how the hell do I pronounce that?!
I am not a fan of excessive Y's either.
On of my twins has a controversial name -- Cohen. I posted it in the baby name board when we were thinking of it and I got ripped a new one for it. We are not Jewish and apparently it's a common Jewish last name. It was an up and coming name in a baby names book and we both liked it. One of the few names we both agreed on. Twin brother is Clay. I think they flow well together.
I've been at a conference all week with no time to Bump, but this thread is getting me through the last afternoon of lectures. You ladies are hilarious.
My family has relatively normal names but for some reason 3 of 4 kids and dad all have names starting with S. Compounded by my dad, brother and sister sharing a middle initial (they are all SMN); and my dad I went to the same uni so there was a little sharp conversation when I ended up with the S+last alumni email addy. Organization was a nightmare because there was no quick way to label anything for segregation between kids.
None of our LO names have First/middle/Last initial overlaps with my name or DH. I'm not propagating that madness. But for hilarity ? My sister and I each married and changed our last names, temporarily reducing the confusion ... But our brothers both married women with S names. So no improvement in the S+last problem.
Last night I threw out the name Taylor as an option for our son. I didn't take my husband's last name when we married and the baby will have his, so I often don't think of it. He would be Taylor Tucker, which isn't awful, but is definitely too much alliteration for me! I blamed it on pregnancy brain that I didn't even consider that.
I'm afraid I'm going to be one of the guilty people future boards talk about... Right now my top pick for names is triple alliterative... His initials would be BBB.... Am I crazy? The full name doesn't sound too ridiculous to me when I say it out loud, but I have a feeling I'll get some side eye. The one thing is that both first and middle names are family names so it's not like I just pulled the names out of nowhere...
@tmk0325, that is absolutely ridiculous. You can't "claim" a name for a religion/culture....it's not something that can be culturally appropriated. If that was the case we all be f'd. My name is Irish but I am German. Does that mean I should only be allowed to choose names that have a German heritage? People need to get a life.
Momma to Amelia Marie (7/14) and Austin Samuel (11/17). Adding baby (girl) #3 on 7/21
One of our top boy names was Beckham for a long time. I still love the name but our son will have FIL's name as his middle name which is David. When I realized he would be Beckham David, I vetoed it.

@ameliabedelia-2 Regarding your comment: the discussion isn't about all surnames, but about Cohen in particular. In short: it's more than a name, it's a religious title (priest). Hence why some find it offensive.
I used to work at a children's hospital with plenty of amazing name material. Personal favorite: Da Money, and his brother Benjaminz. Close second was Dragyn which was around the time GOT started on HBO and I had to believe the mom really wanted to be the Mother of Dragons.
@Jellybean119 my brother Alex married and Allison and they both have a J middle name! Too funny.
My 4 year old named the baby when we first mentioned names: Cabinet. I made a joke in a text that Baby Cabinet is doing well. My brother responded awww Cabby. So I wonder if anyone has ever named their kid Cabinet,nn Cabby. No way is that happening here:)
My OB has the walls of her office decorated with birth announcements from the little ones she delivered. I love looking the walls to get name inspiration when I'm waiting.
I think my kids will probably be majorly side-eyed because they're going to have the same exact initials. Yes, monograms will be a bitch, but I never had anything monogrammed so I'm not one of those LL Bean-backpack fanatics or anything. I'm Angela. My husband is Drew, not short for Andrew. Our last name begins with D. Ampersands have always been our thing, because we're A 'n D. So, our daughter's initials are A.N.D. We couldn't do all the special naming stuff for our first kid and not this upcoming one...so here we are. But we're pretty nerdy so this is a way to be dorky without it being super overt. I don't want to say it here, but I know a girl who named her son and daughter pretty much the same thing. The names don't rhyme, but they're absolutely in the same vein as each other and it's strange. I also know a girl who knows someone who named her kid Cashtin. Is that a thing?
My internship in college doing intake for parents concerned their children had developmental delays. The girls I was working with asked me how I'd spell a little girl's name which was ladasha. So I spelled it to them like I just typed it..ladasha. they told me nope..it's La-a. I died..who does this to their children??
In the mid to late 90s, when "phat" was becoming a trendy word, we had a kid move to our school whose name was Phat. Not a nickname, but his actual birth name. He was Vietnamese, so I don't know if it's a common name there or a common translation of a traditional name. But as a bunch of middle schoolers, we thought it was hysterical.

@angetralala. I worked with a girl who named her fifth and last kid Avan because she'd always hoped for a little girl named Ava and she only had sons. Well fast forward five years and she got her girl, who she named Ava.
My maiden name is Walker and my parents often joke about when they played with the idea of naming my sister Ima Street and my brother Luke Sky. Thankfully they gave us normal names, but my middle+maiden was Alane Walker (a lane walker). I never got ridiculed as a kid, just as an adult when people figured out it was spelled Alane instead of Elaine!
I second on the weird spellings, I have a hard enough time with Kathryn ( constantly explaining: with a K, no erine at the end)
And. @tmk0325 I get that claiming the baby names board was mean to you is easy cool points in the BMBs, but your post where you asked for opinions people respectfully told you why they found Cohen disrespectful and insensitive. Nobody flamed you, despite apparently how much you crave it.

do you comment on name threads on all the BMBs? the baby names board isn't enough for you? bye felicia.

This is probably going to come across as nitpicky, but this woman named her son Lachlan. I personally love it, but that could be my Scottish background talking. But it drives me absolutely batshit crazy that she shortens it to "Lock." WHAT. It should be "Lach" and there's no excuse for that. UGH. (This woman also annoys me 90% of the time, lol.)
@jackiesmom324 I personally really love his last name because in my head I pronounce it like the "pew pew!" shooting noise in a super high-pitched voice (even though there's only one 'W') hahaha.
@Marley629 My friend just named her son Jackson and her hubby's first name in the middle. So it's Jackson Michael. She asked me my opinion I was like "uhhhh", aka please don't do that. She did it!
@Bringmemylongswordho no offense, but you can go back to lurking. We aren't looking for drama around here.
Fair enough. But it's kinda shitty to bad mouth a whole board over something that never happened. Especially after posting multiple threads and getting lots of feedback, that was seemingly welcome at the time. Admittedly, I suppose it's kinda shitty to call out that person on their BMB. I won't comment further, and I wish you all happy and healthy pregancies.

Thanks for trolling by. I'm not looking to gain points, I'm just saying how I felt about the comments.
Edited to add: I don't know anything about the Jewish culture and I was not trying to offend the Religion by naming my child that name. I simply liked the name. I'm Catholic and I don't get offended when I see people named Catholic names that weren't great people. To each their own.
Re: Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Names.
I know the name is popular but I'm so sick of the Kinzlee/Kynzley variations!
Other student names/spellings that I was not very fond of: Ezequiel, Messiah, Ashtein, Jamaeel (pronounced like jam-ah-eel), and Barnabus.

@MJDsquared There was a Branch in the Trolls movie. I bet it becomes super popular now. Yuck.
