Yes @wyomama the definition of BVO is on wikipedia. I would expect it to be.
She's saying Wikipedia is not a reputable source for anything because you yourself can get onto Wikipedia and have the data say whatever you like. I feel like no one with an education would try to pass Wikipedia as a valid source. And I mean a high school education, that's where I was first taught it was a no no
BVO has been regulated in the US. The Wikipedia article posted here shows that there are limits to the amount you are allowed to use. I will note that it's also found in Sunkist, Mountain Dew, and Fanta. Thus, this drink is approximately as dangerous as a sugary soda. The case reports that have shown health issues associated with BVO involve a lot more than a single drink.
And people aren't in a tizzy about a personal choice. People are in a tizzy because it was suggested that we didn't care about our babies' health as much as we should if we drank the glucola.
@OmSweetOm, you are not responsible for this debate at all. FWIW, the drink made me feel pretty awful when I took the 3 hour the first time. I'm not looking forward to doing it again, but I will because my OB is recommending it. I intentionally chose an OB who follows all of the ACOG recommendations, so I will gladly take her advice to care for myself and my child.
This is us getting in a "tissy" I'll break something down for you sister. I see you as no more than a mild form of amusement so please do not flatter yourself into thinking that you've ever been more than that.
Alright, I try to stay out of things but the medical professional in me needs to say, Wikipedia is not a valid source of information. Try a medical journal or something with well documented citations.
@Becky012016 DH wants to start a petition to ban dihydrogen monoxide to see how many people will sign it because they believe all chemicals are bad for you.
FYI, I'm not saying anyone on here believes all chemicals are bad for you, but I know those people exist.
Well hot damn, I was trying to get a sale and missed some good shit! I have my test on Monday and honestly all I care about is that it's the same flavor I had with Ramsey. The one with Willow was horrid. Lol so I guess here is to glucola and years of medical advice from doctors/OBs.
JustBored10 The whole eating organically like our grandparents did is a load of horse shit. Our grandparents used some of the most f***ed up pesticides and agricultural chemicals with absolutely no regulation. The pesticides they used were not only horrible for the environment, but also had ridiculously long half lives and breakdown periods. Which is science for the chemicals stayed in the environment in easily measurable levels for decades. You can still find the leftovers of their horrible pesticide and chemical use in the soil, water table, and animal / plant life today.

A lot of people fail the one hour. There's still a good chance of passing the 3 hour. Don't stress or feel too upset until you get results for the 3 hour.
I did my test this morning. The medical assistant told me I'd know by tomorrow if I passed, which I thought was weird considering tomorrow is Saturday. Then my OB told me they only call if you fail, but the results will show up in the online patient portal no matter what and told me what number to look for. So of course I've been stalking the online portal even though you usually get an email notification when there are new test results.
Just wanted to comment that I failed the one hour. I took it this Monday and had an OB Appt on Wednesday, which was when I got my results back. I was surprised they came back so quickly. Going monday to take the 3 hour. I'm hopeful I'll pass, but trying not to stress about the possibility of having gestational diabetes. I've read many women that failed the one hour passed the 3 hour.
On the debate of fruit juice and jelly beans. I know that the jelly beans they offer are supposed to be glucola jelly beans. Fruit juice is fructose and glucose. Both are sugars, but they aren't broken down in the same way, so I would think that's an issue.
@JustBored10 I'm kind of surprised that you're cool with drinking fruit juice, since some published scientists think it's worse for you than soda.
Is anyone else getting their first glucose screening at 28 weeks? I feel like mine is really late. I know 28 weeks is the latest they can do it, but it seems like everyone else is having theirs at 24 weeks.

I'm taking my 1 hour at 26ish weeks. I've never heard that you can't take the test later than 28 weeks. I think they want to catch GD earlier rather than later and that's why the date range.
@heatherlynn321 mine was done at 27 weeks and 4 days. I dont think your too late to be accurate because I got the option to wait until my next appointment at 29 weeks too.
@heatherlynn321 I was initially scheduled for my 2nd 1 hour at exactly 26 weeks. I took an early test too due to family history. Because I failed the 1 hour the first time (and then passed the 3) my doctor told me I should just take the 3 this time. He said not before 26 weeks or after 28. I assume every doctor has slightly different standards. My best friend took it at 30 weeks with her doctor.

It's fairly normal not to have your first glucose test until the last weeks of second tri or first few weeks of third tri. For those of us who are at higher risk for GD, we have to take the test earlier and often multiple times throughout pregnancy. I have to do a glucose test at each trimester because I have PCOS and am insulin resistant. So far I passed the first two tests. My (hopefully) last GD test will be at 28 weeks.
