  • @ChelK3 I agree with you on this. I hate those shirts. I also cringe when I see a Justice store. I hope to never have to shop in one.
  • @ChelK3.....best shirt I ever saw....(words are written upside down)...."if you can read this, I am eating your p*ssy". It took me a minute for my mind to comprehend that is what I was reading. Who in gods name sees that shirt and is like "now that's funny....that really represents who I am"? Gross.

  • @tamalahoops oh hell that is the best! Mommy needs her salami.
  • UO: I absolutely can't stand Dwayne Johnson. I will never see a movie if he is in it.

I HATE writing on shirts. I came around to tolerating teeny tiny writing on something like a polo shirt for DS because it was hard to buy small, comfy clothes without anything on them. Would it kill you, Carters, to make a damn solid shirt?? The onesies in the 5 pack that had writing on them immediately got donated because they're super obnoxious to me. Now that he's older I won't buy anything with writing unless it's jammies. Even those make me cringe, but whatever.

I obviously have unreasonably strong feelings about this topic.

    Edit: I can't type
  • @tamalahoops Thats the only time it's acceptable #salamiforever
  • @anewadventure I can't look at him without picturing him as the early 2000s wrestler with the weird eyebrow raise thing he had going on. And his slogan lol.... do you smell what the rock is cookin? Lolololol so corny!
  • I have an "espresso then prosecco" shirt that I love (except uhhh now I can't really wear it...) and I would totally wear a "nevertheless, she persisted" shirt like @anewadventure said. There are very few shirts with sayings that I think are okay. And even the ones that I do think are okay (or cute even) I have this weird aversion to wearing them, like it'd be weird if I did. It's kind of like how I don't ever wear lipstick because I never have so I think it'd be weird if I started. Idk.

  • @anewadventure That's a totally appropriate exception! I proudly rock my "World's Okayest Mom" t shirt around the house quite frequently. My argument is more with "Daddy's pretty princess", etc.
  • OH! My UO is that I totally want one of those shirts that says "preggers." I know people really really hate that/prego. I don't every actually use the words preggers or prego, but I want the shirt and have forever. Lol.

  • @anewadventure those shirts are totally ok :)
  • Yep!  I don't like words on shirts, especially for kids.  I also dislike characters on clothes, too.  Sorry, not gonna put my daughter in disney princess stuff or dora the explorer or mickey mouse.  No thanks.

To be fair-we have been given plenty of things with words or characters and we have used them (not all of them).  I really dislike the gross poop ones that people think are funny for onesies.  Just say no!

Oh so with you on shirts with rude writing on them. How embarrassing lol.
On that note: I HATE home decor with writing all over it. I know this is an UO - it seems like everyone has something like this in their home. I hate the wall hangings with sayings like "Live, Laugh, Love" or "Family."  Sorry to anyone who's into it, but it's just not my jam.

Same here...I really don't like that stuff in my house.  And around here lately all kinds of ladies are going to these workshops with friends decorating stupid pallets or wooden signs with quotes and crap on them.  Annoying.  It's like the new trend now that everyone's over wine & design.   :D

I'm not hanging an art and craft project in my house.  JMO!

  • My UO is I can't stand when women shave their eyebrows and draw them back on looking super surprised or like they have Nike swoops for eyebrows.
  • @clovelyone  i hope they're at least upside-down nike swoops instead of regular ones  :D

  • @andipandicWed121369 I keep thinking of graphic tees I own! Ha! I have a nasty woman tee and one that's super awesome and says Mt. Nasty and it's Mt. Rushmore but with Hillary, Michelle O, RBG, and Elizabeth Warren. They're teeny sizing though so I don't really wear them much. I hate when t-shirts are made on super tiny shirts like that!

@AMCsquared I've seen all over the Bump that women haaaate prego/preggers. I honestly don't care at all, obviously since I want the preggers shirt haha. But I still don't say them in conversation or anything.

  • I try and avoid slogan shirts for DD but I caved and bought her the "Strong Like Mom" shirt from Target.

I also have been gifted a few shirts for myself, Good Vibes Only (my mom and sister have the same sweater) as well as "You've Got this. -Coffee". That one, my sister gave me my last week of pregnancy with DD and I was struggling hard core.

My UO is that while the WHO and whatnot have their opinions and research on what is deemed safe as far as feeding babies solids (6 months vs 4 months), everyone needs to do what works for them. Don't be THAT crunchy mom who follows the books to the t.

  • @breezybee. And @tamalahoops
I DETEST shirts with writing on them especially especially if it's a name brand.. I'm so glad we are over nineties and early 00s when everything had to have a big label ck or tommy h on it it was so tacky

I actually don't really get name brands in general... I've grew up super poor but my mom would sometimes spend money on designer shoes and bags.. I never got it because they never seemed that much nicer or high quality than the other stuff.. Now pens I can spend some money on a good pen lol and I spend money on high quality work shoes or boots for my husband but the other I just don't get.. Are a 300 dollar pair of heels that much more awesome!?
  • Oh and one more thing now that you got me on a roll

I HATE when people talk to children like they are adults especially very young children. For example I was at the grocery store on Wednesday and this lady was litterally SCREAMING at her kids to take their hands out their mouth, stop asking for candy, like SCREAMING and they could not have been more than 3-4 years old. I can not stand this. I understand that everyone has the right to parent differently. But I really worry that we are traumatizing a whole generation of children and I really think that it contributes to make them cold heartless adults. I worry that if your primary caregiver can not give you adequate attention, love and at the very least respect as an individual person I feel like it must be hard to learn how to extend that to anyone else. I especially worry about what that does to little girls and boys because I feel like it effects them differently. But lets not get into the really unhealthy gender constructs our societies perpetrate. Back to my main point though, I feel just as though voting should be mandatory, people should have to do like a mandatory training on evidence based child rearing because some of the things I see at the store really appal me that someone would treat ANYONE like that much less someone who does not have the cognitive abilities and sometimes physical abilities to do what you are talking about. Anyway thats a huge petpeeve of mine. HUGE petpeeve.

you're saying  a 3-4 year old can't understand the sentence "take your hand out of your mouth" ...? because that's not true at all...

i'm certainly not for screaming, even if it happens to the best of us. but i absolutely AM for speaking to your children as adults, instead of blobs. even when they are young. do i expect a 4 month old baby to understand what i'm saying? no. but i can still speak to a child with real words. it's part of treating your children with respect. you treat them as if each is a real person, not this thing you drag around until it hits some magic age where it is "grown up" enough to become human in your mind.

  • @jackiesmom324

i wouldn't call "SCREAMING at" a child, "talking to them like an adult."  But maybe you talk to adults that way?  :#
  • I hate tagging and quoting, but ^^^ this confused me. Screaming at your kids isn't the same as talking to them as adults. When I read your first sentence, I thought the kid would be around 5 months old and the mom was trying to explain germs or something in-depth.
    I am confused.
Also, I did buy myself an "I Make Cutie Babies" shirt at Charming Charlie because I just had to.

  • Yea what I'm trying to say is I don't think you should baby talk them but I really do not like the snapping at children especially those that are not even in the age to know what they are doing.. It really bothers me. Like I think everyone should be treated with respect no matter how old
  • I was at a baby shower once and the couple received a onesie with a picture of a sperm on it and it said "daddy's little squirt." The gift giver thought this was absolutely hilarious and actually, so did the couple. To each his own I guess. I will be putting on a very fake smile if I get any onesies with words and cutesy sayings. No thanks.

@AMCsquared I hate it too... but I totally catch myself talking like that to DS. I hate that I do it and when I catch myself I stop it but sometimes it's involuntary

On the train of signs in houses, I hate those generic "house rules" signs everywhere now. Also, when we bought our house there were stupid word wall decals everywhere and I was DREADING taking them down. Turns out they were just stickers that peeled right off, so glad!

Late to the party because I was sick and dying... I've always hated phrases on shirts, but there have been a couple that I've caved for. My daughter has a onesie that says milk / snuggles / naps / mommy. Also: pretty eyes, chunky thighs. I think they're cute.  :# And I have a friend who is a huge Nirvana fan and she just found out she's pregnant. I'm itching to make her a cute "come as you are" onesie when I finally dig out my Cricut.

But I DESPISE character clothes and baby talk.
